I would argue that the skill positions failed today. Drops, turnovers, and bad play calls did them in. The offensive line was great but I still think it was better than when we rolled out Kalil week 1 last year.

The offensive line didn't look good today. But at least Sam had time to navigate the pocket rather than having to instantly retreat. There were also *some* running lanes. Darnold's missed throws and receivers dropped passes early in the game killed the entire offense.

All in all, the line looked better than last year though and should improve. Once again, the backup runningback looks better than Bell though. Sorry, but he's shot.

Still some issues to work out but I think they’ll be serviceable. Becton looks like he belongs so thers some positive. The interior needs some work, could come with game reps. . Tough first matchup that won’t be any easier next week.

My fingers get more separation from a used piece of dental floss than Chris Hogan gets from CB's.

Just the fact that you had to use Hogan in this example is precious...lmao

The line was hurt the most from the covid off season. I think they deserve a few weeks to gel.

Darnold looked terrible today from what I watched... but it was 21-0 when I stopped. Reading about the game he didn't get much better.

I think it's fair to say Bell will be off this team next year

He didn't look like the player we've known. Even on his bad days. He looked like Geno today unfortunately. I hope we didn't ruin him.

OL could have been better but at least Darnold had time to throw. A few low snaps from McGovern didn’t help.

I didn’t see much help for Bell or Gore but neither are explosive runners so the expected three yard gains were all that was on offer.

What sucks is Edoga, a 3rd pick, is not even serviceable. We can’t miss on picks like that and Polite and ever expect to be good. It adds up quickly.

The Oline was far from great today, but was still a great deal better than what we have seen the last 2 years.
Sam was getting flushed from pocket but not running for your life style of pressure.
Only first game together as a unit against a pretty stout D line it was passable, and definitely not the major reason why we could not compete today.

I expected a rough first game given how many new faces there are and how little time they had to build cohesion.

It was a red flag when he couldn't get onto the field by himself and we had to roll him out there.

The line was bad, especially in the middle. The Buffalo game plan was exactly the same as what teams used last year, stack the line and get into the Jets backfield. That cripples our run game and passing game.
Fortunately, Becton showed he has the potential to grow into his role pretty quickly and Fant looked better than anything we had on the right side last year. Interior needs a lot of reps together.

Van Roten disappointed me a lot. He got blown up a couple times. I hope we look at him closely and if he has another bad game we replace him.

With whom would we replace him? Clark is on IR for 3 weeks or more. He's better than anyone else we have at the moment.

Adams would be my guess before Clark comes back.

Adams? We don't have an OL named Adams. The Jets' Official Depth Chart shows that Conor McDermott is Van Roten's backup. Did you mean Andrews who can play OG or C and who is the backup C?

Actually little known clause in Jamal's trade is that he is required to return and play on the OL if our line looks terrible after game 1. The more you know!

Lamb out there balling for Lamb.

Not going Jeudy/Lamb 1st round while also not keeping Robby Anderson was CRIMINAL.

Could have gave Sam WR weapons and a passing threat while going O Line 2nd round. To ignore WR 1 was disgusting as was letting Robby ball out for Carolina.

Santana Moss was the last 1st round WR any of our QBs have featured. Sad.
