You guys keep forgetting John Abraham is still available. Pretty sure no one has signed him yet. Yeah, he can't be depended on come playoff time, but he is still a solid pass rusher. He is only 41 too. Younger than Brady!
Anyone who knows anything about football knows that you want an edge rusher to pressure the opposing QB, not to be the best run stopper at his position in the NFL, and you don't pay a FA edge rusher who isn't a good pass rusher a ton of money. That would be totally stupid. You just don't get it and probably never will. Yes, we need stars, but we also need a complete team, and we need those stars to do what they're being paid for. Yes, setting the edge and playing the run is part of an edge's responsibility, but the most important part is rushing the passer. You pay edge rushers big money when they excel at rushing the passer, not when they excel at stopping the run and are only so-so in rushing the passer, particularly not when they take plays and games off.
How do they definitely not need him? They have no pass rush. Compared to their players at that position he’s all world.
He puts a lot of pressure on the QB. If the Jets had Bruce Smith and Mark Gastineau rushing the passer I’d hear you. They have no one close to that.
True, we shouldn't have signed the best center available, instead we should have spent it all on a 29 year old, injury-riddled pass rusher that is coming off his worst year as a pro. He’s the best center available cause that was a weak FA position this year. He’s not close to the player at his position as Clowney is at his.
Aaron Donald is double teamed every snap and puts up more. Ngakoue is double team and puts up more. Matt Judon was double teamed and put up more. Every good pass rusher is double teamed and they ALL get more than 3 sacks.
Aaron Darnold is the best player in the sport. If he was available I wouldn’t be mentioning Clowney. The Jacksonville guy is great. He’s better also but the site will want to get him for some lowball price. As will Douglas so he’s not a realistic option. They’ll end up signing Curry whose an average player and the site will celebrate cause he’ll come cheap.
On a side note, and I’m not saying this is the case but do you really think that it’s impossible that Clowney’s agent, not thrilled with his offers would tell him to follow some Titans on social media to get Seattle to bump up their offer? Like stuff like that is never done?
Could you imagine Clowney on the Jet defense under Williams? With Q. Williams, Mosley, Williamson, Adams, Maye, it would compensate a lot for their lack of corners.
