http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/baseball/mlb/07/01/yankees-phillies-trade.ap/index.html NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Yankees have acquired reliever Chad Qualls from the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named or cash. The Yankees made the deal Sunday during their game against the Chicago White Sox. The Phillies designated the right-hander for assignment Wednesday. Qualls was 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA in a team-high 35 appearances for the Phillies.
I was at the game, did not have fun at all. I got paid to go to, (I didnt have to pay for the train or ticket) yet I still did not enjoy it. By the 2nd inning I wanted to get the hell out. My love for baseball is dead, it went from being my favorite sports handsdown 7 years ago to now the bottom.
Hughes pitches another gem. still say he relies to heavily on his fastball and it would be a great service to him to learn another pitch. if I'm not mistaken his best pitch when he got drafted was his slider and he stopped using it.
5 by the yankees, 5 by the red sox in the first 10 runs is the most in the first inning of a red sox/yankees matchup.
Okay win. Hopefully this counts as of those high scoring, bad pitching games the Sox and Yankees have to play almost once a series.
Id probably grab Hamels if he's available. With those pitchers out there I think the price is going to be really deflated. If we build a package centered around Mason Williams + Betances I think Philly would pull pull the trigger.
Good first half for the Yankees. Pitching and home runs have been carrying us. At one point it looked bad for Phil Hughes but he's turned it around, Nova's been sick, Kuroda pretty solid other than an occasional shelling. CC is CC. No Mo, no problem apparently. Fuck Boston.
I'd be interested in that, too... the only problem is that the Yanks say they are trying to trim payroll by 2014. Hamels isn't a problem if he's just a rental for the stretch... but if the Yanks are being honest about getting under the luxury tax level, they're going to want to have a glut of guys like Mason Williams and Betances to make sure they can stay competitive cheaply while paying 40-year-old Jeter and 39-year-old A-Rod over $30M... never mind CC and whatever Cano and/or Granderson command.
