White had asinine # of interception worthy throws last year, and that includes Bengals game, where he got fortunate not to be picked off more. He also was thoroughly outplayed in preseason by Streveler. Doesn't have the arm nor athleticism. And he is 27 years old. At least Zach has youth on his side. With Mike, I am just not comfortable at all. If Zach has another game like he did against Patriots, I do think he might get benched. I don't think it will happen, but it's not necessarily the end of Zach even if it does. It may be the end of him being an automatic starter though. Tua got benched last year and it worked out OK for him. But White is not the answer here, even for this season. I suppose if White comes in and sucks, Streveler could be next. That is more promising but still low probability.
So you think Douglas will go all defense in the off-season when the defense is already very good and the offense is a dumpster fire? I really hope you’re wrong. He needs to address QB, OL, WR, and P or we’ll be watching reruns next season. If he has money left over he can splurge on a LB.
They have 2 QB’s that can run the offense which is good because they needed at least 2 this season. We have one (who still has question marks imo) and if we really are 49ers East we’ll probably need at least 1 more. Frankly I’d prefer someone who can compete for the starting position or has proven enough to walk in as the starter. Obviously that won’t come cheap, and if they spend a lot at the QB position they’d better spend money and/or draft capital to build a good line with solid depth. The defense has needs and they shouldn’t be ignored. The offense has bigger needs and they can’t be ignored.
QB: The options next year are going to be Mike White and a bunch of other backup QBs who have starter potential, none of whom are going to command tons of money. OL: Yes, a lot of money needs to be spent upgrading the O-line. They're decimated without AVT and were only average with him. Unless Becton comes back healthy and able to resume his rookie year form, they need a new starting LT. They also need much more depth for when starters inevitably go down. WR: We're pretty good at receiver: Between Wilson, Moore, Davis, and Barrios, they're doing okay. I wouldn't mind replacing Davis, but other than that, I don't think this is a main focal point right now. P: It's not exactly going to break the bank to find a new punter. We also could use at least one better linebacker and an upgrade at strong safety.
Wilson - Stud Moore - Made boneheaded mistakes. Not convinced yet. Davis - He’s been injured and average. Some big drops this season. Good #3? Berrios - I don’t care if he made a PB even on ST’s, he had game changing drops and hasn’t been standout at WR. Think we need some help here.
I see nothing wrong with this plan, Mike deserves a nokidding shot in a no shit competition, unless the issue of durability is a big concern to them and they will hedge their bet with someone else. In any event, we need to really determine how to retool the OL around AVT and hopefully Becton. Much needed and especially if Mike is the starter or a less mobile QB. Using Strev a bit like we used Brad Smith would work nicely.
I love this team, always have, always will. But next year if we don't freaking make the playoffs, I expect some major changes in the horizon. We have had enough mediocracy to last us an eternity. There will be no more excuses'. This team has enough talent to be a contender with solid QB and better OL I predict without the shadow of any doubt, that no matter who the QB is behind center in 2023, we will have as many heated discussions at the first sign of team trouble, as the media and the fans will revolt bigger than ever, demanding someone's head. Be it the GM, the HC, the QB, OC or DC, no one will inmune. And most likely than not , rightfully so. Lets hope we finally turn this ship around in earnest. We deserve better. Patience has run out.
I think you have to consider a splash trade. If you're Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh and you think this roster is ready to win the SB with the addition of a good QB? Then you have to entertain the idea of adding a veteran you can go all in behind. A guy you believe immediately believe puts you in SB contention. It's not as far fetched as it sounds. Both the Rams and the Bucs have done it and succeeded with it. What would it cost to acquire Aaron Rodgers? Can you accommodate his salary? Is he willing to commit to at least two years? Is he willing to restructure his contract or potentially take a pay cut? Not just him but other veteran QB's that might be available? These are all questions that must be answered first and foremost.....
Hey LA..What's wrong with Patience...?? its only been 12 years since playoffs and 56 since SB..haha Seriously ..good post . The trend I have seen since the last couple of Jet pressers is both RS and MLf just " have no answer" why team responds better with MW and Strev vs Zack Translation is there is no chance the Team will respond for Wilson ...ZW has lost the Team and CS knows it
Moth-eaten Brady and Rodgers are overpriced, immobile and do not come with any moneyback guarantees for neither the playoffs, nor the immediate future. Instead, their is an undesirable guarantee their presence will create more of a carnival atmosphere than currently exists. If either veteran QB sucks, gets hurt or has a bitch fit, it will boomerang the front office right back to square one at the QB position for 2024. With the Jets holding possibly the most valuable wild card at the signalcaller position, Mikewhite, no need to be chucking up a low percentage Zach moonshot here to land your man. Assuming the Jets have any desire or can contractually nail down MW, solid fundamentally disciplined QBs like Ryan Tannehill and Jacoby Brissett could probably be had on the cheap, saving some coin to allot towards other pressing concerns. Sure Brady and Rodgers may be sexier names, but does the team really need another sexpot after the big...err...armed Brett Favre, the original "porn star" (sorry Jimmy Gee), proudly displayed his worn out wares? Like a classic late game or late season Jet collapse, once you see such horror, you just can't unsee it. The fanbase is already heavily traumatized due to yet another volatile late season crash and burn flame out. The signing of well beyond their prime one and done talent will do little to convince anyone these aren't the same OLD Jets. Here's hoping this version of the Jets does not foolishly revert to their historic form of putting out the team's recurrent raging fires with gasoline.
