Something happened at practice. A Joe Flacco doesn't get demoted for no reason like that. And the money saving reason isn't it. For one that's chump change, I don't even think Woody is that cheap, and 2, its a dick move towards Flacco. I offered my theory, Elijah Moore questions why Flacco is behind Wilson if... "the best players play" , the sophomore coaching staff can only think to change the hierarchy. Or maybe Flacco agreed with Moore and it started a bigger argument and they had to do something. Mike White is Zach Wilson's best friend on the team, Flacco is not
This was my theory as well. Flacco kills the credibility of the coaches. How do you tell a guy like Mims he has to know every route at every WR position and throw him in the doghouse while Zach clearly doesn’t understand the fundamentals of the plays.
Posts like this arise from time to time but there is never an ounce of support for them. I cannot remember a single time since Johnson has owned the team that there has been a factual indication that he has constrained spending in any way for any purpose. I have also never seen a substantiated charge that Johnson has forced any football related decisions on management or coaches. I can point to two PR related moves that he made to sell tickets and those were getting Tebow and Favre, both of which proved to be inconsequential in the football scheme of things.
I believe its a good move for the reasons Saleh stated but I don't get this systematic lack of communication between the CS and players. It's not respectful.
Yeah, except here’s the thing… Mike White fucking SUCKS. The guy isn’t a game manager type QB. He had one flash in pan start vs Cincinnati and that’s it.
Realistically they could lose the next 5 games. "IF" they somehow surprise and win a few of those despite happy feet scared Zach then they have options to finish out the year strong and try make the playoffs with one of either White or Streveler because they'll get some much needed reps in practice. If they lose the next 5 you left Zach finish up the year, expose him as NOT being the FQB and they all compete for the starting job next year... I don't see JD using another high pick on a QB, he will need to find one not named Zach in-house or sign a FA or trade for one that can step in and start. The worst part of this year is with Zach as QB they are wasting the talents of G. Wilson and Moore. These guys need to get the ball to gain experience and showcase their talent and that just isn't happening right now.
The Jets could make the playoffs this season with some consistent QB play. Of the QB's on the roster Mike White is more likely to deliver this key ingredient than Zach Wilson. He's also more likely to be able to process a large volume of throws if that is what it takes. He's more likely to allow the young receivers on the roster to develop at the high end of their potential. I believe that Saleh and JD are aware of this reality at this point. I think Zach gets the start against the Bills and then we come out of the bye with White behind center. Zach is going to have to play very well against a tough defense to keep his job. The Saleh comments about him being the starter all season are just to avoid overly pressurizing the start against the Bills. No point in sinking ZW mentally before his last chance to hold the job.
I was about to write this. Great call, @TwoHeadedMonster. This is the true reason. Mike White is slightly more mobile than Flacco, so he gets the edge.
You're partly deluded if you think JD/Saleh would make moves like this to appease Elijah Moore and company. They are preparing Mike White as the long-term backup, and going to retain Strev as the gadget QB3. It's pretty obvious, and Saleh said this with his own words in the press conference. No reason to give Flacco reps in practice anymore. Wilson sucks, JD knows it already. He's too young, and ego is too hurt to overcome the NY media and win. He doesn't have Peyton and Archie types in his ear like Eli did. The kid is done. He had a full offseason, 4 weeks to understand the offense, and multiple offensive playmakers around him to make him look good. Explain to me what is JD/Saleh/MLF supposed to do at this point? Just run the ball and hopefully it clicks for ZW next year. If that's the case, JD should have went all defense in this last draft. You just can't do that it. This kid has tough games against, NE, the Bills twice, Seahawks, Phins, Vikings – these are offenses that will score points and/or defenses that will come after you. 6 games where he needs to play like an NFL Qb for 4 quarters or there's zero chance we can win.
Well, I can prove your opinion wrong. He was consensus #2 guy in the draft though, which means many teams thought he was a top guy including 49ers and others. Yet Streveler was not claimed off waivers, hence I doubt a lot of teams thought he was qualified. Heck even for the Jets he was #4 and they only signed him to practice squad. Hence you are simply wrong, and connection you made of Zach and Streveler is not applicable.
I'm supposed to go to a wedding on Sunday, which starts at 3PM. If the game is close in the 2nd half, maybe I should just blow it off. LOL. I'll just watch the highlights later.
And my point is that there is no connection at all between these two statements. That was shown by NFL executives. And if there is no actual connection, I am not sure why you are trying to make one.
give strevler some time to grow....right that what we need to give to zach to prove to be fqb....some poeple in this room....ffs
the funny thing about that game was it was all gameplan. he just executed it. it was largely dump offs and our skill position players made a ton of YAC
sure, in the bengals game yeah. He managed the game and the skill players took off. He couldn’t replicate that at all.
No one has been able to replicate that performance at all. White played only 1.5 games after that performance. Flacco 4 games and Wilson 12 games
Isn't that what a "game manager" is supposed to do? I'm not calling the dude the future, but not sure "He couldn’t replicate that at all" is truly applicable when he really played one other game (and against one of the best teams in the league)
