Totally agree. In fact, Schotty may be coming into his own. This guy is much maligned by many fans looking for a scapegoat to the real issues, the biggest of which is planning around a totally rookie QB. I think it's a mistake to dump Schotty at this time. I actually think he's coming into a sweet spot for us, one in which we can have coaching and player continuity finally and build on it for a winning run next year. To dismantle that momentum now is a big mistake IMO.
The past two games were complete departures from his normal behavior as an OC. Every time the Jets have lost, he has had Sanchez throwing too many passes and abandoned the running game, seemingly forgetting that Shonn Greene was on the team. In the Atlanta game, Schottenheimer made probably one of the worst decisions he has ever made. They had Sanchez taking practice throws on the sideline from 5, 10, 15, and 25 yards. After the 25 yard pass, he clearly shakes his head and indicates that he is not comfortable with that throw. Next pass: no routes under 15 yards and Sanchez throws a pick. It's like he's trying so hard to be the opposite of his father and he's willing to completely forsake the run in some games when have had the same healthy OLine for every game(save for a few plays) and some good-to-great HBs on the roster in Greene and Jones. That has been my biggest problem with him this season but for the past two games he has gone the smart route and kept the rookie QB out of the line of fire and leaned on his OLine and running game which were the major strengths of this offense from the start of the season.
I've been waiting for this all season. Fake punt, aside, that's one aspect of the offense that should have been explored by now. If Schottenheimer is willing to Let Leon throw the ball all the way across the width of the field to Sanchez then he sure as hell can let the former QB throw a quick toss to a TE on a bootleg.
Very good observation!! It could be that he has learned that the Jets do not need to throw the ball 30 plus times a game and if this is the case then kudos to him for making the adjustment. I think he has just positioned himself for a HC job in the NFL, #1 rushing offense, he has been to the post season a couple of times as an OC, he is young, and he is part of a successful coaching staff, if EM can get a job after being a ball boy and working his way up the ranks, then BS should get his opportunity.
i agree.i think b.s. was setting up early.he would've used it last nite if the game stayed competitive
Word from the Star Ledger is that the Bills are looking into hiring Schottenheimer. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/01/post_18.html
I'm not fond of Schottenheimer at all at this point but the Jets game plan yesterday was flawless on offense.
i'm ecstatic about last night's win....but i also understand that's only one game where Schotty wasn't his own worst enemy. I'm not confident at all that Schotty can be consistent with this approach.
Hmm...wasn't overly predictable? Every first down a run? That is not predictable at all. With that said, the last two games, dumbass has finally got it through his head that he need to throw a majority of quick outs and slants. This is a big improvement for Brian's dense head. It is unfortunate that it is taking this long but a least it is happening. Now he just needs to add some designed screens, a little more play action, thowing a few times/game on first down and throwing to the endzone when they have a lead and are inside the opponents 30.
You know, I read the Colts threads and they bitch about their O-coord. Let's face it, we'd bitch and moan about everyone. Who was the last O-coordinator we loved.....Joe Walton ? John Idzik ?
i've had mixed emotions about schotty...ranging from being impressed to completely hating him. however he's been fantastic with the play calling since they installed the color coding thing for sanchez. today was amazing. he kept the bengals off balance and it was even better than the previous couple of weeks which he also did a great job
ive always defended schotty. He has made some bone head moves leaving sanchez out to dry but the guy has NOTHING to work with. We have 3 receivers one bearly has hands and our big screen pass guy has been out all year.
Aside from a couple of plays yesterday, he again called a great game. Keep up the good work, Schottenheimer.
