I didn't really enjoy the Kotite years. I went to a few games. They were brutal. The Jets were more of the "lovable losers" back then to me. I didn't expect much.

I enjoyed the Parcells era immensely. 2009-2010 were the best. 2009 because I had no expectations coming into the year, and 2010 because the Jets really were one of the top teams in the league for once.

2011 was just a bitter disappointment.

Losing Revis this offseason sucked. I know the contract demands were unreasonable, but to lose your best player like that after shelling out cash to underachievers leaves a bad taste in your mouth as a fan.

I had no expectations for 2013. I actually thought we'd be worse than we are.

    I didn't think we were that awful in '93 & '94

I think we were big underachievers and we blew a lot of leads...21 pts to Pha and 17 pts to the Raiders in consecutive weeks. We were upset two years in a row by the Colts. We ended '93 with the Buddy Ryan punch out game, and '94 was the spike game ( we had an 18 point lead in that one, BTW)

I really wanted to like Boomer, but he tossed quite a few critical interceptions ( see Eric Allen in '93 and the spike game in '94), and his overall tenure is one of disappointment, so maybe
that's why the fans never really took to him.

    Now, '95 & '96 on the other hand...:mad::sad:

I think sadly that will be Tanny's legacy. Giving big contracts to guys like Harris (who is way overrated by Jet fans but not mediocre) and Sanchez while losing Revis.

I think I am pretty lucky in terms of quality Jet teams, I was alive but don't remember the Walt Michaels years but I know they came right after some pathetic seasons. He built the team that I eventually remembered though and passed it to the nosepicker who despite the mediocre OL and passing on Dan Marino was able to put the Jets on the verge of a Super Bowl appearance before an injury to Ken O'Brien and late hit of Bernie Kosar cost the Jets a shot at the AFC Title Game. We would have played the Giants in the SB that year so maybe it's a good thing we didn't make it. They demolished the Broncos in the Rose Bowl.

Walton never had teams that good again thanks in large part to a terrible OL and the introduction of free agency. The Jets still haven't figured a way to keep their best players and not replace them with medicority. Doesn't matter who the GM is but it's always the same.

The early 90's were not terrible, we never had a team that was a contender to win the SB but we always seemed to be the playoff hunt most years always coming down to the last week of the season. I remember beating the Phins one year to make it and losing to Houston one year to not. I also remember knocking the Giants out of the playoffs in either the late 80's or early 90's. I was there and despite the fact that we weren't a playof team it's one of my greatest memories as Jets fan.

The mid 90's sucked, no doubt about that. From the last few games of the Pete Carroll era to entire Blowtite era it was rough. Since then though it seems we have had more ups than downs even though we still haven't made the SB. I think the hardest part of the years since Parcells is that the Giants and Pats have won 5 SB's between them and played in a few more.

Obviously only one team can win the SB and it hasn't been us but at least in 95% of the seasons since Parcells took over our season has had meaning in December. Imagine being a Browns fan and your season is over by mid October every year, or Jacksonville who has no hope. It's been close to a decade since the Bills made the playoffs and Vikings who while making the playoffs with a high degree of frequency had a 15-1 team land a 13-3 team lose the NFC Title game at home to two teams they should have mopped the floor with.

to be fair, he tried to give Revis a long term deal but Revis wanted more. Neither the Harris deal or sanchez deal crippled us. what hurt us was not surrounding the QB w/ weapons after extending him.

Probably because the offense could actually move the ball a bit.

I don't think you guys remember those times very well

    1995 offensive pts scored: 205, 12.8 PPG
    2013: 230(w/ 2 games to go), 16.4 PPG

as far as yards, we were last in the league in 1995 w/ 4,067 yds while this year we have 4,294 yds w/ 2 games to go.

Didn't Reich play most of the year? The 95 team was actually worse than the 96 team.

95 was awful but personnel wise things were going in a better direction into the Parcells years.

'95 was worse, Chrebet would turn out to be a good player obviously but it is never a good sign when an UDFA from Hofstra is in the opening day starting lineup. Our other starting WR we acquired right before the season started- the immortal Charles Wilson. that was a bad offense.

Reich came on board in 1996. Boomer and Bubby started all the games in 1995.

  9. Yeah the 96 team had several upgrades for the 95 squad including Jeff Graham,Jumbo Elliot & David Williams

our O was so bad in 1995 that it masked the problems of the D so we spent all our money on fixing the O thinking we could compete but while we score more we gave up a lot more thus going from 3 wins to 1 win.

33 or 34 seasons for me that I can vividly remember. IM 41. The New York Jets are one of the worst organizations in all of sports. I'll love them til I die but man, what a bunch of fuckin losers.

Im also a die hard Ranger fan ...another historical loser. I suck. I got my Yankees though

the Jets are nowhere near one of the worst organizations in sports. We aren't a championship one but the Jets have been better than average in the years you have followed them which are also the same years I have followed them for the most part being a few years younger than you.

not even close. we are top 10 in the NFL the last 15 years, overall we would be middle of the pack throughout all of sports. I am not sure you realize how many bad franchises there are in sports.

I'm 45 and decided to piggyback my pain and suffering by also being a Mets fan. Holy shit, the mid-late 70's were horrible for both franchises. I've at least got to see the Mets play in 2 World Series, 86 and 2000. I was too young for '73.

My fear is that however long I live, the year immediately after I die the Jets will win a Super Bowl and all this angst will have been for nothing...

On one hand, I don't like those who are associated with the team who do not help it, and admire those who do help it. So there's that.

But in the end if the Jets have a bad season, it doesn't make me less of a fan. I know I will be interested in the off season, and there's always hope for next year.

The better seasons are more like icing on the cake. well, that's really an understatement, of course, since that understates how much I appreciate the better seasons. But even the better seasons end with a loss, so... I think that is what champ refers to when he means every year without a VLT is a losing season.

Also, enjoyment aside, I know that I personally am not a better person for living through the better seasons, and the converse is not true, either.

In short I don't really think I regret being a Jet fan. I regret that Woody owns the team, and that it has been since 69 and all that. But I don't really think about not being one.

Of course I gave up my season tickets awhile ago, so I have less financially invested in them. Maybe I'd be more pissed if I still had the season tickets.

In the end, it could be better, but that's life. Yeah, being a Jet fan is life.
