I was 50/50 on Idzik. On one hand, I think 2 years is barely enough to adequately evaluate either a draft or a GM. On the other hand, I think Idzik's drafts are, thus far, very underwhelming for a team that was hellbent on building through the draft. Not making a significant pick at the WR position in the deepest WR draft in recent memory is something I will never understand. There is little doubt that Idzik was a casualty of the, largely unprecedented, media tide that turned against him with alarming ferocity and momentum. There is also little doubt that Idzik did little to distinguish himself as someone we may one day regret letting go.
My favorite JETS coach...ever... and I used to love Carroll as a DC. He will be on a SB winning team and raising a trophy in 3 years tops... The man is a defensive genius and his persona is large. Any team who accepts him with open arms will be gaining a man who DGAF except for trying to win. Love that about him..
I'm not so sure he hasn't gotten an interview anywhere ,I'm hoping he gets one of the openings just so he can prove what I already know ,that firing him wasn't the right move ,change isn't always better especially in this case .
Niners and Falcons both set for interviews. I think ATL is the better option, SF is similar to what he had with us: good defense and inconsistent offense. ATL he can fix the defense up and make them a contender again.
I really appreciate and like Rex. To me, he's not just another coach. I'll miss him for sure, and I just hope whoever we get has enough positive attributes to make up for everything we're losing by letting Rex go.
I told the Ms.. He will end up in ATL with Matty Ice..add a D and probably do some big things there. I really like Arthur Blank and I think it'll be a nice fit.. That said.. S.F. needs a coach...oof.
one thing I don't think is mentioned that Rex sort of turned into a coach who was afraid to lose. That might not be entirely his fault but for a coach who preaches punching the other team in the mouth and being the aggressors, we rarely took risks and when we did there never felt there was a method to the madness. For someone who really believed in running the ball, he was really hesitant to run on 4th and short and etc. I don't know what caused the shift, maybe I just started to notice more because the lack of risks started to turn into losses.
Rex was 1-5 after a bye. Mangina was 3-0 after a bye. That is just sad. Rex made us laugh , but in the end the jester had to go. Going to use the "Get coached Up" dvd of his as a coaster.
I loved the Rex personna and I wanted the Jets to succeed with him, mostly to stick it to all his detractors (Francessa, Giant fans etc). Over time, it became apparent that the most lovable things about Rex are the biggest things which brought him down (stubborness & loyalty to a fault, to name two) If Rex succeds in the future, it will be because he has the ingredients he does not have here, (a QB and a strong and effective GM who knows how to get the best out of him) But Rex isn't succeding anywhere until he changes a few things, which would be, among others, becoming less stubborn about play calling, adapting to game situations better, choosing better assistants, etc.
Stop being a tool...they had 4 12 men on the field penalties all of 2014 and 1 was on offense...so pfffffttttt.... I'm with those who are saying he lands in the ATL. He lands there and I'm willing to bet he hoists not one but 2 Lombardi trophies before the next 5 years are done. Period. Arthur Blank would be a fool not to bring him in. It would be the PERFECT STORM for the next decade. A top 10 QB & Offense. I find it hilarious when I read all those that really get down on him too hard. For those of us who have been fans of the Jets for more than 10 years...we know...we know what real coaching losers look like. I mean, Jesus...for a team that's been around for over half a century we've only had FOUR coaches worth two shits...BARELY. And of those four only 1 has a winning record and two that actually had a personality. Yes, you read that correctly...Bill Parcells is the ONLY NY Jets head coach with a winning record. And he and Ryan the only two with what one would call an engaging personality. We've had some characters over the course of our existence to be sure (Edwards)...but when you are a loser organization like the Jets you have to have some kind of barometer. And now the scuttlebutt is Doug Marrone is the "attractive" choice? Hell, I may just become a fan of Ryan and follow him to his next team if this continues. How soon Jets fans forget. Ryan had 4 decent seasons, 1 bad season and 1 sabotaged season (I don't care WHAT ANYONE says...2014 was a sabotage). Nothing you can say, yell and shout from the mountain tops can change my mind about that and there are many league people who agree with my opinion. For those that think he doesn't get a new HC gig in 2015...you are the crowd that are clearly deluding yourselves and think waaayyyy too much of your own self important football acumen. I'm only going to miss Rex Ryan in a NY Jets ball cap...I won't miss the man because I'll continue to follow him to his next team. And there ya have it.
I would express my thanks to Rex as well. One of the things I found most pleasing about Rex was his openness and honesty. In a corporate controlled world where images are shaped by publicity agents and product placement executives Rex chose to be himself. The NFL allows very little room for honesty and stating ones opinions. It is a marketing league where most things are regulated and staged. Rex was honest to a fault. His players loved him and played hard for him everyday. He may never have developed an offense but the Jets always had a chance every week because of his defense. His ground and pound philosophy while not the most exciting to fans works well in the post season. If only we could have made it the post season a little more often. Rex was a mad genius of the defense who could stop any offense. He had his flaws but he was one of the few genius coaches we have ever had. He gave us more than coach has given us since Weeb. That being said it was the right time to go. I hope he has good luck in Atlanta, SF or wherever he lands. Although Buffalo and Oakland have not shown much interest in him I think he could do wonders with either of those teams. I am less of a big fan of Atlanta outside of getting to play in the NFC south. Regardless I hope he does well.
In another thread I broke down the timeouts...the offense was guilty of using the lions share of timeouts and those fall mostly on Geno. He called the lions share of the timeouts. Not the coaches. Marty was guilty of some REALLY bad timeout calls as well.
Exactly. Rex has created a cult of personality around himself which enraptures media and fans alike and serves to cover his enormous shortcomings as a coach. Mike Ditka did the same thing. Ditka did manage to win a championship however.
