You're just trying to piss people off, here. Trolling, are we? Look, nobody gives a shit about Reggie Bush anymore. He got drafted by another team. And if you continue to post about another team's player in the Jets forum, your own 'Jets fandom' will come into question.
I was in favor of getting Bush if we could. I probably would have pulled the trigger on 2 1sts and a 4th, but it certainly makes sense why we didn't do it as well. The offensive line is more important than a runningback is, and we revamped a large part of it in the first round. I wanted Bush because the offense has absolutely no playmakers, and I wasn't convinced D'Brick was an ELITE prospect, which is what I felt he had to be to draft him 4th overall. Hopefully he is. That being said, I really don't care anymore. I'm happy with Brick and Mangold, and we can get our runningback next year, and he can actually have a good chance of succeeding behind a good line.
so he had a 44 yard run. and totalled 6 for 59 meaning in his other 5 attempts he averaged 3 yards per carry. not too spectacular. dont get a hardon for one single run in a preseason game. i remember when rodney hampton came out of georgia in his first touch as a pro in the giants first preseason game he returned the kickoff for a touchdown. i saw it and was like omg he will be the greatest ever. now rodney had a great career but never lived up to my own hype after following him in college and then seeing that first nfl play.
The 2 more widespread rumors I heard and read were: 1. http://www.raidersonline.org/blog/2006/04/saints-profile-on-rise-with-choice-of.html "...in the Jets' case, that reportedly included the fourth and 29th picks overall, along with the Jets' third-round choice." 2. Our 2006 1st (4th overall) Our 2006 2nd (35th overall) Our 2007 1st I would have done any of those 2 in a heart beat. If Tangini and company truly valued Day 1 picks, then they should not have wasted their 2 3rd rounders. If the cap hit wasn't too bad, I would have also considered a trade involving Vilma, who's talents are somewhat minimized in a 3-4.
We did offer two 1sts and a 4th, the Saints turned it down. They wanted a ridiculous trade, like when the Saints traded up for Ricky Williams. I dont think Reggie is worth two 1sts, a 2nd, a 3rd, etc. All the hype is because hes exciting to watch. No one would care if he was a power runner who runs between the tackles.
2 1sts and a 3rd then, I still would do it. Wouldn't have done the 2 1sts and a 2nd, but I don't know what it would have taken.
What a waste of thread... First of all, you never, EVER, throw away two 1 rd pick for one PROSPECT. Idiotic front office clowns that actually do this kind of sh!t - that's what I call moron. If Tannenbaum actually pulled this out, I would have been seriously pissed off. Secondly, many teams have proved times and again, that having great line is much more important than having one spectacular back. - unimpressive backs, so-to-speak, can thrive with the protection of superior line. Fantastic back with no protection from up front? You have Barry Sanders, the greatest running back ever (IMHO) to not go anywhere close to conference finals (let alone SB.) Unless this Bush kid is 10000 times better than Barry Sanders, (and I know he will never be even on par with the likes of Barry Sanders, mind you.) I will pass. -------------------------------------- C'mon, WAKE UP!! It's just PRESEASON. You just don't go to Hall of Fame with 50 yard run in pre-season game. Bush might be damned good, but then so are D'Brick/Mangold tandem. Which would I prefer? D'Brick and Mangold tandem, any day of the week. Again, if you think the Jets should have pulled the trigger on this kid, remember the Lions, and remember how the carreer of Barry Sanders ended. He got exactly NO ring on his finger, despite his marvelous talent.
I can live w/ finishing day 1 of the 2006 draft w/: 1 2(2) Reggie Bush 2 3(35) Winston Justice 3 7(71) Jason Spitz I know it would mean no Schlegel and Eric Smith but I think I'd be OK.
Barry Sanders is a retarded analogy. You make this ill-advised comparison as if to say our front office would be as incompetent as the Detroit Lions were in the 90s when the never made an attempt to add quality players and coaches to the team to help Barry. They were satisfied w/ just having an exciting player like Sanders that would get people in the seats and were not concern at all about winning. The f*cking draft and off-season happens every year. You guys as if the Jets would trade up for Bush and just stop trying to make the team better. Do you think Mangini and company would just go to sleep after the trade? Also, great lines do not have to be comprised of 1st day picks. There are many good teams out there w/ high draft pick skill players and low drafted or undrafted offensive linemen. Scheme, continuity and chemistry are more important to an offensive line than individual talent.
Did you learn to read? I suspect if you learned to read properly. If you didn't, you can always go back to elementary school for that. Nowhere in the post I claimed whether the current Jet FO is as incompetent as the Lions FO of the 90's. You are reading something else that you think you are reading, not my actual post. (Thus the advice above. Go back to elementary school.) Secondly, great lines do not have to be comprised of 1st rounders, I agree. But then, those that didn't have to invest heavily on the line, initially, were not in such a dire need like the Jets either. Those who had a pressing need at the line position didn't hesitate to invest their 1st day pick on the line. (Orlando Pace, Jonathan Ogden, etc etc.) So if you want to argue that Jets should have picked up someone else because they could bolster their line with later pick, I would suggest you to find valid examples to support your contention. (i.e. choosing someone else when they had a glaring need at the line - and the outcome from that draft.) In my mind, Tannenbaum made the right call by selecting two OLs in the first round.
From my view point, the Jets had many needs on the offensive side of the ball which included RB. So trading up for Bush would not be neglecting a need. Like my earlier post suggests, if the demand on the table was our 2 firsts and 3rd for the rights to Reggie Bush, the Jets could have easily done the following: 1 2(2) Reggie Bush 2 3(35) Winston Justice 3 7(71) Jason Spitz Isn't banking on a 33 year old RB coming back from knee surgery and waiting until the 4th Rd to draft a RB who projects more as a 3rd down back in a way "hesitat[ing] to invest [a] 1st day pick [on] a pressing need"?
Of I forgot about the learn to read bit. You wrote: "You have Barry Sanders, the greatest running back ever (IMHO) to not go anywhere close to conference finals (let alone SB.) Here maybe I am reading something else into this. Help me out here. What's your point? Is it no individual player can bring you to the SB? I think those of us that hoped the Jets traded up for Bush already knows this. Why did Barry Sanders not go anywhere close to the conference finals? Could it be because his FO never got him some help and he ultimately retired way too early because of it? Do you think the only time you trade up is if a player is 10000 times better than Barry Sanders and can single handedly take a team to the SB? If so, being GM is not your thing. Again, what was your point for bringing up Barry Sanders, I don't want to read into anything and be wrong?
my question is how does a team pass on someone when they never had the chance to pass on that someone.. The only team that passed on Reggie Bush was the Texans..
