Draft board for Cardinals 1st round pick has been sent to WW85. Depending upon when the Cardinals are on the clock, I may be able to make the pick myself. Either way, I won't be holding up the draft with that pick. Again, I was surprised the Saints pick even came up before the evening hours.
Percy Harvin to Chicago makes no sense to me at all. Apparently, their coaching staff is very high on Earl Bennett and the Bears already have their speedster with Devin Hester.
The Bears need a more consistent playmaker on their offense, Hester isn't that, IMO, I thought about some of the big guys, but they didn'y give me the value that was needed at 18, the Bears also have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds so I am not worried about filling up my needs, it will happen, but in no way was I going to reach at this point in the draft. Someone mentioned QB, no way in hell for the first round now that Sanchez and Stafford are gone. OT, not happening the first round guys are gone. There is one more position I considered but it should still be a great value in the 3rd You can never have enough playmakers, and Kyle Orton sure as hell is not going to win you games. Personally, I am not a Harvin fan, but the value was there, as well as a need Hester REC 51 YDS 665 AVG 13.0 TDS 3, not consistent enough for me, he does his work as a returner, and alot of Bears fans feel that his returning ability is hindered by playing WR
2008 was Hester's second year as a wideout - he came into this league as a cornerback. The Bears will continue to get him the ball in as many ways as possible. Hester's their play maker - Earl Bennett is supposed to step up and start opposite Devin Hester. I know, I know -- you can never have too many play makers...but Harvin doesn't fit this team in any way, shape, or form. The Bears want a tall, possession wideout - not another speedster. Chicago signed Kevin Shaffer to play right tackle for them and Chris Williams looks to be coming along. Guard is much more of a problem now... The Bears are known for having a very strong defense, right? That wasn't true in 2008 - they only had 28 sacks. They lack a solid pass rush. Also, the Bears have a bunch of nobodies playing strong side linebacker - that's a huge hole for this team. I don't see the Bears going QB either. Orton is their guy...for now. Caleb Hanie is supposedly a very intriguing QB prospect. He may get a shot at starting if Orton fails. I see plenty of players left that have more value than Harvin...especially for Chicago. But you're the GM, right? Choose however you like. There's still six more rounds.
I could see the Eagles take Pettigrew, but I would be absolutely stunned if they didn't take WR here. Pettigrew is a nice target though. Wonder how McNabb reacts to the pick or if the Eagles even care at this point.
The Eagles have some talent at WR and they need an everydown TE. Plus I figure whoever winds up playing tackle Pettigrew will help the run game on the edge.
I agree that TE is a need, but I would rate RB & a young OT to groom ahead of that. The reason I stated I would be shocked if they didn't go WR was McNabbs insistance in getting some help in that department & the Eagles failure to do so as of yet. Then again I doubt the Eagles give a crap what he wants.
What about DeSean Jackson? The Eagles lost LJ Smith to free agency...right now their starting tight end is Brent Celek. To me, tight end is the best option for them in the first round. None of the top tackles are left, and I only see one more tackle prospect that's worthy of a first round selection available. Getting a running back to groom behind Brian Westbrook would be a good move...especially since every single running back is still on the board.
DeSean Jackson is a nice weapon, but honestly I think they are very similar to the Jets as far as receiver goes. A bunch of very good to decent #2 & #3 WR's, without a true #1. Brown if he stays healthy could prove to be that player eventually .. he has shown flashes. Mr. E is right about the value of OT at this point in the first round. Okay .. sorry for derailing the discussion. Back to your regularly scheduled draft talk. Sorry about that.
First chance to sit back and post about my pick of Stafford at 8 wit Jax. I know that someone said earlier that QB wasn't necessarily one of their biggest needs, but the chance to add the best QB in the draft and a very possible pick #1 at eight is just a coup for the Jags. They need a Quarterback, Garrard is solid, but isn't going to be the guy that gets them over the hump; and Stafford could also spend a year/half a year sitting on the bench learning before he gets thrown into the fire. It's a perfect situation right now, and i can always add other pieces as we go. Not to mention with Tra Thomas on board, I'm not worried about getting Stafford on the field early.
Guessing since the clock began at 9AM and 3 hours have passed, MIN's pick is due. Anyone wanna take a stab at it?
Yeah but with a weak O-Line, a RB who's never shown he can handle the load(And MJD rules too) and probably the worst WR core in the game today(Dennis Northcutt and Troy Williamson............................) how exactly would Stafford succeed though. Its just a pretty crummy team all around and Del Rio's head is on the line this season potentially so I dont know if he would draft Stafford just based upon that. I will give you and JAX the benefit of the doubt though as you still have other picks in the draft to address needs. If you can work magic in the later rounds, then the pick would look all the more better.
