They don't "expect" a deal to be done with Fitz by next Thursdays draft. This of course can change very quickly with Hoyer in the house today.
Kerley is a solid enough WR, but for the most part it's true those guys were awful. However, they had nothing to do with Geno's inability to properly execute a scramble or throw the ball away. Maybe some time riding the pine has helped him, probably not, but it's possible.
there is no way i give fitz 2/18 with a backup option like hoyer who gives us basically the same production. i assume hoyer can be had for like 2/8. id offer fitz 2/12 and say take it or leave it, i need to know by the draft
fitz might have had a career year but it wasnt some great season. his numbers were average last season
Jason La Canfora suggesting the Jets may sign Hoyer, then sign Fitzpatrick, making Geno Smith the odd man out. Interesting theory.
I'm not sure they can afford to till after the draft. They need 2.7 million at draft time which is what the NFL uses to lock up the rookies until their contracts are agreed upon. I think they only have just over 3 millions in space. They would have to rework contracts.
By no means was he great or dominant. But for anyone to suggest Hoyer could give us next year what Fitz gave us last year , really undermines what Fitz did. Ask a Texans fan what he thinks about Hoyer. Guaranteed they never had those thoughts about Fitz
well, hoyer gave the texans the same that fitz gave the texans the year prior. im not sure why that wouldnt be the case again. fitz familiarity with gailey helped sure, but its not like gailey hasnt been a godsend to many qbs. they are fresh off a bad playoff loss with hoyer. fitz is old news for them. not really apples to apples. fitz didnt have some great season, duplicating it shouldnt be hard for a slight below average to average qb with the jets weapons and gailys system. it would be one thing if fitz had some great year with low turnovers.
Would anyone have suggested that Fitz could give us what he did a year ago? I see both players as relatively equal, with Fitz having the benefit of team/OC familiarity and chemistry. To me, that's worth a couple million at most. The upside with Hoyer is that we might be able to lock him up for multiple years at backup money ($4mil per). Even if Fitz settled for $8mil, I doubt we'd really want him to be our starting QB at that price for more than a year or two. Both are guys that you'd rather have as your backup. You're constantly looking at the draft or Free Agency to try to upgrade from them. With that being the case, near equivalence at a steep discount is very appealing.
Well most fans here are calling what he did "average". If 30 TDs and 4000 yards is average in today's game then I will sign for average every single season from now til eternity. Hoyer was also rumored to us after leaving Cleveland too. Didn't see anyone here clamoring for him then though. But now because we've finally had a decent season from a quarterback anyone can be put there and succeed? I don't think so You call them equal. And that's fine. But I don't think there is anyway Hoyer could ever put up the type of season that Fitz did last season. Whether that's here or somewhere else. If the Jets were gonna pay Fitz 16 mil a year they would've already. Eventually they will meet in the middle and threads like this will be bumped and laughed at.
Receivers don't force a QB to run out the back of the end zone, receivers don't force a QB to run back 15 yards before taking a sack, receivers don't cause a panel of 32 coaches and insiders to vote him the worst QB in the league, receivers don't force him to have a lack of mental acuity. I can go on if you like.
