Tell me Bowels didn't really do this?

I really need to ask the same thing to the people are are super offended by that decision as if it even made a smidgen of a difference in our season. Listen I don't like Todd Bowles, and would rather see him fired, but using this as a reason is asinine. The 4th quarter of a 40 point blowout, and people are bitching about leaving 4 points on the board as if it could have changed things.

It's not about four points, it's about the "give-up" attitude.

In a 40 point blowout in the 4th quarter, the game is over. There is no giving up at that point as there is nothing to give up. You just face the facts, that you lost. It's like how in an NBA blowout, both teams usually remove their starters in the 4th and bring in their 3rd stringers. They know the game is over, so they move on. The game was over, the season has been over for a while. The move literally makes NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever.

That would make sense if the NFL season consisted of 82 games.

Why does that matter in an 82 game season, but not 16? A blowout is a blowout.

I'm curious how one decision in a meaningless game that is already lost matters the world to you. If the Jets simply were not trying they wouldn't have beaten the 49ers. The team just stinks and has no QB, and no oline and were playing one of the best teams in the league. What do you expect?

Moral victories mean nothing. They got outplayed badly in all 3 phases of the game. You gotta cut your losses and move on. The season is over, last thing the Jets need is a ANOTHER major injury in garbage time that stunts the growth of a young player (ie Petty) because the coach was too stubborn to admit that the game is over. It's like criticizing a coach for not going for a 3 pointer at the buzzer when they are down 20+.

you: "Why give the Patriots the satisfaction of a shut out"......followed by: "moral victories mean nothing"o_O

kicking the field goal WAS going for a moral victory. That's why people criticize the stupid call. You go for a TD when you are getting embarrassed you don't kick a field goal to avoid a shutout.

People were suggesting it would have been better to go for 7 because it would feel better to think they were trying hard. That's more of a moral victory than kicking a field goal and admitting the game is over. There was no chance of a comeback. The decision didn't matter, Bowles was just trying to close the book on this game and move on, it wasn't for moral victory LMAO.

Of course many of you would probably have preferred them to go for it in garbage time with no oline and run a play with Powell where he gets injured and misses the first month of next season as a result. If that happens many of you would be in here complaining about going for it in garbage time in a meaningless game risking injury in a blowout and calling for Bowles' head. The team is bad, that's the only reason people are criticizing to such an extreme degree.

I'm glad you finally got to the stunning Sherlock Holmesesque conclusion that people are criticizing the team because they are bad.

The game was over when Bowles led them out of the tunnel. Pretty much what can be expected for as long into the future as he's around.

Hahaha, yeah. I just re-read that today and that sounded kind of silly the way I worded that to finish off. I was trying to say that the team is bad, so it is basically being put under a microscope and everything will be criticized to the nth degree whether it's actually a detriment or not. That's how our media is here and the fans echo that frustration. I've already moved on to next year. All I care about for week 17 is no big injuries. It already greatly worries me that Petty might miss next year's training camp, as it's a HUGE camp for him in his development. It almost ensures Tony Romo will be our QB next year :(
