I disagree. If Bridgewater starts and plays very well against the Giants, the Jets could easily start Teddy. Unless a QB goes down in the next week or two, who are the Jets going to trade him to? They're not going to just give him away, either. Darnold could learn a lot by sitting and watching Teddy. Even if you're right initially, if Teddy continues to play well and has the Jets winning games, the boos/criticism will quickly turn to cheers. Jets fans are just as hungry and impatient for a winner as they are a FQB and/or Darnold.
yeah that is the theory that a lot of people want to grasp on but it is about as realistic as McDonalds not putting chemicals in their food. the guy is a rental and that is it. the Jets start this guy for a season and jersey sales will plummet, ticket sales will suffer and the press will tear them to shreds. those are real things whether you want tp admitt it or not. i know you have a thing for the Cleveland guy but you need to get wise
There's "ready" and then there's "READY." How many points did Darnold lead the Jets to last night? Yes, he's poised beyond his years, is seemingly in command of the offense, and makes good, quick decisions, but he isn't seeing the field like Teddy or making the kinds of adjustments or moves (the turn of the shoulder last night to open up things for the TD throw) that Teddy is. Teddy has seen regular season and playoff Ds. Darnold has only seen plain vanilla. With 3 games in the first 8-10 days that is too much for any rookie, even Darnold imo. I think the OL is part of the equation. Until the OL gels, do you really want to expose Darnold to possible injury? With Beachum and Winters out until the regular season, it's probably going to take the OL at least 2-3 games to get in sync, if not longer. While I don't want to see Teddy get hurt, either, I think he's better equipped to deal with things those first few games. For that matter, McCown would be as well. They've seen it all, seen the exotic blitzes, the disguised coverages, etc. It would only take one momentary hesitation for Darnold to possibly get hurt. IMO it's just not worth the risk. A few more games starting is not going to make any real difference for Darnold, and by sitting and watching Teddy go to work and then being able to question Teddy about why he did certain things, Darnold could learn a LOT.
So because I'm a new member I'm automatically a troll? Shut up idiot. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Keeping Teddy is an absolute assinine idea. It doesnt deserve a thread because its simply not an option.....UNLESS we can win a Super Bowl with him THIS year. Period.
Sam is the Jets QB. Watching the bench last night, it is easy to see. I don't see a scenario where Teddy starts that does not involve injury. I thought he looked good last night too. The Jets want Sam to start if he can handle it. He can handle it, so case closed. I have no problem keeping all 3 QB's and that is what I would do. Injuries do happen, so better safe than sorry. Sam can still learn a lot from Teddy and Josh during the week. They can help him on the sideline after each drive. So there are benefits of keeping all 3. If a team offers a 2nd Round pick or a starting O-lineman for Teddy, then you have to make a deal, but otherwise he should stay. Saying he MUST start Week 1 is a little off though.
of course. How anyone can argue this is proof there are more horse's asses than horses. It boggles my mind. UNLESS OF COURSE, keep Teddy people think we can win a SB THIS YEAR with Teddy
We're a sensitive lot. We've come to realize that while every Bills fan that posts here may not be a troll, they all have anger issues.
With all due respsect, you don't know that Darnold can handle regular season NFL defenses that aren't vanilla, and are using exotic blitzes, disguised coverages, and more complex alignments, especially with 3 games within 10 days. I didn't see any such thing as Sam is the Jets' QB. Teddy is playing better and is a better QB at this stage of the game.
with all due respect, at his BEST, Teddy was average. And hes gone at the end of the year regardless. Why wouldnt you want to get something for him?
It has nothing to do with winning a SB. In all likelihood, Darnold is not ready to play 3 games in 10 days against more complex Ds, exotic blitzes, and disguised coverages. No rookie QB would be. That alone is reason not to start Darnold to begin the season. Factor in that Winters and Beacham have missed the preseason and it will likely take the OL 2-3 games at a minimum to get in sync, and there's more reason to keep Teddy and start him instead of Darnold. Add to that that McCown is 39, more injury prone and hasn't lasted an entire NFL season in quite a while, and there are plenty of reasons to keep Teddy. Yes, getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick or maybe even a first if he starts the first 4-5 games, have the Jets winning and a playoff contending team's starting QB goes down with a serious injury would be nice. But having at least 2 QBs at all times is a necessity, and with the Jets' OL there's a more than even chance that at least one of them will go down with an injury this season. Finally, Darnold could learn a lot from watching Teddy and questioning him during and following games. How stupid would the Jets look if they trade Teddy and then both McCown and Darnold go down with injuries and they don't have a single QB on the roster, and have to sign some street JAG that won't even know the offense?
Sorry, we'll have to agree to disagree. Players don't make the Pro Bowl when they're only average. You also have to consider Minny's offense and what Teddy was asked to do there (be a game manager).
Don't understand the logic in starting Teddy if you think Sam Darnold CAN run the show. Playing Teddy for any amount of time that Sam could be learning is almost saying that Teddy is our future quarterback not Sam. Idk if anyone else remembers but Teddy was a glorified game manager in Minnesota, the year he got hurt he was "supposed" to take the next step. I haven't seen anything from him that tells me his ceiling is higher than Darnold's. I love Teddy, but a 2nd round pick is much more valuable to us than him starting 4 games.
It was more because you said something dumb. The new member thing just confirmed the troll suspicions.
Come on, guy, you're smarter than that. Saying that we gain nothing is wrong and just plain ignorant, and you aren't ignorant! You're one of the smartest and best posters here. You can't say that he won't help us get better, either. Darnold could learn a lot from watching Teddy play in the regular season. Teddy could help Bates and our offense develop better and more quickly. He can help our WR corps develop. I understand the draft stock issue and that would be the main reason I wouldn't want Teddy to stay for the entire season. I understand that his starting could cost us draft position by winning an extra 2-3 games, but I think Darnold watching and learning from Teddy could help him and the Jets more in the long run than the draft position. Losing a draft pick would be the other reason. I'd rather see Teddy start the first 4-5 games, play well, then see the QB go down on a playoff contender and that team trade their 2019 or 2020 1st round pick for Teddy than for us to trade him now or at the end of preseason and only get a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Even if Teddy stays and plays well, with our OL and lack of pass rush, we may not win any more games than we would have with Darnold or McCown, but we might get a better draft pick for Teddy.
How did I say something thing dumb? His depth of targets was one of the lowest of any qb in the first week of preseason and it was probably even lower in last nights game. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
That's true. I don't 100% know. I think he can though. The Jets do too. The Giants game will tell us more. It is a process. I loved watching both last night. Much different than what we have been used to for a long time. I just don't think Teddy will start for the Jets.
Totally disagree: Derek Carr (2017) Andy Dalton (2016) Alex Smith (2016) Andy Dalton (2014) Alex Smith (2013) Matt Schaub (2012) That's the last 5 years, not including Bridgewater who had FAR worse numbers than all those guys mentioned in those years.
