I don't see the Jets trading Bridgewater for a 4th round pick now (at least I hope not, as I think that would be a big mistake); I think it would require a 3rd or maybe even a 2nd (or an accomplished NFL starter at a position of need). As of today I also don't expect that a team will be offering a 2nd for him. Thus, I don't see anything happening right now. If a starter gets injured or Bortles or Winston stink the offers will go up and the Jets can pull the trigger. If Darnold is starting and looking reasonable the need and selling price will go down and the Jets can pull the trigger. If Bridgewater is starting and playing well, or Darnold is starting and playing poorly, it will be a tougher decision, but it's one that doesn't have to be made for two months.
This is essentially what Schefter was saying on NFL radio today. Teddy is too good to trade for and have as a back up and no teams desperately need a starter right now. Named Tampa, Miami, Denver as places who could use depth but doesn’t think anything happens until someone is injured.
Wait... doesn't Miami have TGG All-Star and superhero QB in the making, Bryce Petty? I was told all this time that he sucks because of the Jets.
Trading TB for a 4th is a freaking joke. Mac took a shot at TB when none of the other genius GMs did. The same GMs some here go Gaga over and over. Now it is really paying off for us, with two good young guys to choose from. It's paying off so well other teams are starting to see great value to them as well. Go figure. The kid is a starting level young QB talent. Yet some think we should literally give him away for a lousy later round pick because we are not winning the SB this year. Fuck that. Keep him all year in case something happens to Sam and make him a strong offer if that is the case. If teams want to get into a bidding war next year for his services they will have plenty of competition. For those who want to win now, fork up a first or second and they will get a great talent. Otherwise, stand in line. There will be more opportunities as the season begins. And his value will go up. If it was the other way around some here would beg for Mac to get him with a first of second. Stay firm Mac and make them pay.
Definitely Tampa, not so sure about the Jaguars but it's a possibility. Maybe Denver as a "break class in case of emergency" if Keenum is bad.
If they can't get at least a 3rd for him, he's not worth trading. It would be far better to wait until a team has an injury and gets desperate enough to overpay and give the Jets a 2nd close to the deadline. IMO, that's the only way to play it. Teddy has too much value to trade away before even seeing Darnold play a regular season snap.
The Seahawks allegedly offered the Colts a 2nd for Brissett. He has 2 years of his rookie contract remaining, which makes for a nice backup, but he hasn't had the success of Teddy. If someone is willing to give up a 2nd for Brissett I have to think Teddy could get a 2nd or maybe even a 1st under the right scenario (like Bradford).
with this o-line, we should copy the eli rookie giants: start josh or teddy until the bye week, then sam the rest of the season. and scan the waiver wire for upgrades in the o-line from teams letting guys go for cap reasons. the hoodie up in foxboro goes dumpster diving late in preseason for minimum cap vets every year,
Report: At least two teams have already called Jets about Teddy Bridgewater Posted by Darin Gantt on August 20, 2018, 1:42 PM EDT AP The Jets have made it reasonably clear that quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is available, and the calls are starting to come in. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, at least two teams have “expressed interest” in acquiring the former Vikings first-rounder, and have discussed a potential trade with the Jets. He adds that there have been no concrete offers which would prompt a move, which is confirmed by the fact he hasn’t been moved yet. The Jets know they’re in a buyer’s market, one which will only go up if someone’s starter gets hurt (the way the Vikings gave a first and a conditional fourth for Sam Bradfordwhen Bridgewater went down two years ago). He mentions the Broncos as a possibility, and John Elway has made it clear he’s hoping for more from his No. 2 quarterback behind Case Keenum. Bridgewater has played well in his two games this preseason, after missing most of the last two years because of the knee injury. Bridgewater is 17-of-23 for 212 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. That’s made more impressive by the fact he is getting his first extending time in two years. The Jets signed him as a backup plan, before they knew they’d be able to draft Sam Darnold third overall. They’ve invested $1 million in him so far, as part of a one-year, $6 million contract.
why would Teddy ever do that?? I love Teddy but theres no real scenario in which he is on our roster in 2019.....sucks but its true. And thats the whole basis of the argument for those like me who say we have to trade him. Its not because we wouldnt love to have Teddy as a great insurance policy or even short term starter then back up but it aint happening
The sooner Macc trades Teddy, the sooner Sam can take over the team and lead us to the promise land. Teddy Bridgewater is an enormous distraction and gots to go.
So what would Bridgewater be worth on a new three year contract with big incentives for A) Playing and B) Productivity? How much cash would it take to tie him up, understanding he could still be traded, quite possibly at a much higher value if he stays healthy and maybe gets some good game time in over this season and next?
A distraction to whom exactly, the media, the bloggers here at TGG? Sure as hell is not a distraction to the team. They are both performing very well, provide massive insurance at the position, and continue to increase the value of TB in case of a trade. That is the perfect scenario, not a distraction. Sam has gotten more than his share of rep with the starters. There is no distraction.
