Yeah, that Orton was the man. Should have kept as the starter and sent Timmy to the Indoor league. I want what your drinking, Walter. League QB ratings are great, wins are better.
I'm aware it's a team sport. When you have a first round draft pick quarterback on the bench, and the team is losing its ass anyway, the fans tend to want to get on with it and see if the new quarterback can play (because they figure, if we're losing anyway, why not get to see the new guy play). Maybe someday you will learn this.
What I don't get and don't understand is that it ny it always a circus. I think Sanchez is more prepared to handle it then most people think.
Who cares. So what if Tebow is a virgin and Mark is gay, just as long as they find the endzone for a TD I personally don't care.
Mark is under pressure like the Queen song. He needs to focus on reading defenses better, particularly the underneath zone coverage and making better progressions. Unfortunately, he's gonna come off the field in short yardage plays, near the goal line, and maybe in key points in the fourth quarter for Tim Tebow, and that ultimately is not gonna allow him to have the stats as an individual to merit being an elite quarterback, it will help the team goal, but not Mark as a pure quarterback. Ultimately what this does is minimize his importance, which leads me to believe that this year is a transition to Tim Tebow as the future.
Not saying he doesn't have to improve, (he does) just saying the way things are shaping up and the popularity of Tim Tebow alone (as a selling point for stuff like PSLs) and also because he has shown a measure of success even on a bad team that did not support him (Denver was 4-12 the previous year and 1-4 last year) he's gonna get every opportunity to become the permanent starter. Anything positive Tebow does is only going to further diminish the value of Mark Sanchez especially since he comes at a premium in terms of salary compared to Tebow and doesn't generate the marketing component. Too many factors favor Tim Tebow as the future QB not withstanding the very real Business and Marketing force that is the player, he also has a high pedigree in terms of success and leadership. Everything else you can work with by coaching him up and putting better pieces around him. Jets hands-down have a much more talented overall team than the Denver Broncos who really have a Junior Varsity Talent Level right now more in line with Jacksonville, Cleveland, or Miami. Jets have a good defense, better skill players on offense and a better offensive line than Denver, and Tebow had success last year. So just imagine what he will do on a much better and more talented overall team. Jets may not be the Patriots in terms of wins last year, but the actual lineup and talent is not vastly different. Jets have a top ten defense and a solid core of skill players. With Coach Sparano's run-first focus, that only further increases the chances for success for a guy like Tebow who you have to respect by loading the box against the run, leaving single coverage on the outside for Hill and Santonio.
This is all true, but I think of it in more simple terms -- the Jets are loaded, go for a Super Bowl. It's time to stop thinking in terms of Sanchez "progressing" in his fourth year as a full time starter. Go for the championship. Go for the type of team that is different, that wins that key game that gets them over the top. 2 or 3 years ago, it looked the Jets could be that type of team. I think they have to get back that mindset and urgent approach. I think the best thing Rex ever did was declare the team a Super Bowl contender in his second year. Once they got to the AFC championship, their mindset should have definitely been that -- that we start breaking dishes until something gets us to that unique level. Teams like Atlanta have been fiddling around for years because they supposedly have this franchise quarterback who is gradually developing. Or even Stafford at Detroit. They need to go for it. Do something different. Change a key player. Or change a key part of their offensive approach.
Did Brad Smith diminish Sanchez? No. Well Tebow is a better Brad Smith, NOT a better Mark Sanchez. Mark will not be automatically removed on goal line and short yardage, just like he was not automatically removed for Brad Smith. Once in a while, yes. Every time, no. Both Mark and Timmy will be given opportunities to succeed, each playing to their strengths. Mark will be the QB and Timmy will be the Wildcat Option "QB", the personal protector on the punt team, probably some snaps at RB, FB, or however Tony S. can dream up using him. He will NOT be the QB1. Get used to it. He had his chance in Denver and failed.
^ Not sure that the RB,FB, or TE will actually happen at all, unless you mean "Lined up" in the formation because Tim Tebow is not nor has ever been a pure (or even close) RB, FB, or TE by definition. If you mean, have Tebow on the field in addition to Mark Sanchez and you don't know who will get the ball (thus no designation), then sure. Also, Brad Smith is a utility player, and although they mention him in regards to Tebow, you're not gonna actually run ANY true wild cat with Tebow. If you understand the Wildcat, it is specifically a designed run off tackle that is just a power run without any threat to pass; its just an 11 on 11 concept. Tebow would be running (by definition) an Option attack or Zone Read option that would incorporate the pass as part of the Option. Not the same thing as the Wildcat. Also, the personal protector would not be run in the conventional sense of having him "tackle" or block. To be clear: Tebow will be the back-up quarterback and mostly learn the same conventional offense that Mark runs, the only difference is that he will actually play. Like plays designed to run an option against man coverage or to the true running back which will be Shonne Green, Joe McKnight, or their draft pick (who has experience in a spread option.) I think I confused myself. LMAO
It is not about QB ranking LOL! It is about winning Tebow turned the team around the Defense Never Dominated not even with Tebow in there. Miller was hurt their best Guard was hurt in the playoffs. THEY GOT RID OF THEIR ONLY LEGIT WR when Tebow took over. The Broncos and Elway put Tebow in there to FAIL like Orton had and then to be dumped only...
Brad Smith was a record-setting passing QB in college, throwing for more than 8,000 yards during his very successful career there. In the run-up to the NFL draft the NFL worked very hard to dissuade him from the notion that he had the stuff to be an NFL QB despite the numbers he put up in college. The Jets drafted him in the 4th round, where it was widely assumed that he'd go, and indeed they made him into a slash player who rarely played QB except in the wildcat. Tim Tebow was a record-setting QB in college, throwing very well out of an option offense and leading his teams to a lot of wins. In the run-up to the NFL draft most teams worked very hard to dissuade him from the notion that he had the stuff to be an NFL QB despite the numbers he put up in college. Most teams had him down as a 4th round talent, likely as an H-back, because unlike Brad Smith he did not have elite speed for a slash type player. A few analysts, Gil Brandt being the notable example, thought Tebow was a 1st round talent at QB. The Denver Broncos, with a young, inexperienced head coach in his first season bought into the Tebow 1st round hype hook, line and sinker and made him their pick. That's the difference between Brad Smith and Tim Tebow. Tebow had a few people who bought the hype and told him he could play QB. The NFL is now in the process of re-adjusting those expectations. That's why Tebow is lining up at personal protector, a position usually played by H-backs and linebackers.
Well said. The Jets are resetting Tim Tebow's expectations, not furthering his NFL QB fantasy. The rest of the NFL participated in this re-set also, by not offering him a starting gig on any other team. This whole starting QB thing would not have been an issue if McDummy knew what he was doing.
It's important to note though that some people who do know football thought Tebow could make it as a QB. The pick by the Broncos was surprising but not shocking at all. Everybody was prepared for the possibility that some team would take the plunge on Tebow and try him as a QB. Your point on nobody being willing to offer more than a 4th round pick for him or offer him a starting position at QB is well-made though. The NFL as a whole began the expectation reset at the time that Tebow was traded. The only team that did not fully participate in that reset was the Jets, since they brought Tebow in as a back-up QB/H-back and then immediately traded the guy they had signed to be the backup QB. Note that in order to run the wildcat Tebow has to be listed as the backup QB because once the 3rd string QB enters the game special rules apply to when the other guys can come back in. So the Jets really had no choice but to list him as the backup QB unless they were going to list him as a non-QB altogether.
They did away with that rule entirely with the new CBA last year. No longer applicable. You can did anything you want.
Fans were almost yelling for mark brunell last year and boo'd sanchez off the field more then once last season. thats nothing new. neither is media attention for this team. distraction isnt an issue, since thats the atmosphere they have been in for years.
