I'm not saying geno is the runner Vick is but geno is capable of running the read option so I don't see the point of bringing in Vick......it also is putting our 2nd qb at risk who tends to get hurt as it is
Is it possible they were running a few w.c. plays with kerley or powell? Assuming it is vick might be off base a bit
I'm not a fan of the wildcat. Especially not a big fan of making it a regular part of the offense. If we want to do it a few times per year so that other teams have to spend 10 minutes of their practice preparing for it, okay. But if we're doing that a few times per game, I think it'll be a mistake.
Please no. If Geno wins the job, he's your freaking QB and (i) allow him the time to get into rhythm and (ii) show some faith in him. If Vick's the backup, give him a clipboard and let him watch like all other functional offenses do. Bringing guys in and out at QB is unnecessarily complicating things and could resort in Geno getting out of sorts. WC is fine in small doses, but let Geno run it. Or be on the field when a RB or WR is running it. Stop with the nonsense. _
I was assuming it was a QB based on the fact that Cimini brought up Tebow. If we were running it with Powell or a guy like Ford then it wouldn't really be something he would feel the need to comment on because that was a normal part of our offense last year with both Powell and Josh Cribbs.
Not a huge wildcat apologist here, but I disagree with you. The absolute dumbest part of the WC offense is when they leave the QB out there and spread him out wide with a RB/WR playing the "QB position." That is one of the biggest reasons why the wildcat is dying from the league!!! You are short handing yourself, essentially playing 10 on 11 football when you do that. The QB isn't going to do anything split out wide. Also, if you run it with a WR or RB it's even worse because they aren't QBs, offer no real threat throwing it and so you are making it one-dimensional. That's the DUMBEST way to run the wildcat. I don't know if I'd call it "the wildcat" or even make it look like the wildcat as we know it but having a Vick package isn't a bad idea. Simply because he's a talented QB that can do things Geno Smith can't. Also, it doesn't make a QB go out of rhythm or mess with his head if they don't suck. Sanchez was weak and streaky to begin with he let the Tebow crap get to head too much. Geno Smith hasn't really shown that he's the type of player that gets into rhythm anyway. I would not worry if they tried mixing in Vick, as long as they did it right.
If you think Vick was brought here to sit on the bench you're crazy. I never saw Vick as a threat to take Geno's starting position but I knew they'd find a way to get the ball in Vick's hands a few times a game. As far as comparing this to the Tebow fiasco of 2012 , it's not even a comparison. Vick doesn't come with the "mania" tag affixed to him that Tebow does so I don't see it as any distraction .
As much as I hate the wildcat, I don't see a problem with it this year as we will have Vick running it. That will confuse the hell out of other teams. If Vick is our backup he will have fresh legs. Not only can Vick throw the ball, he can run it as well. This can be quite interesting. I hated the wildcat in the past but this year we might be able to dominate teams with this sort of plan
I knew they would be using him in this capacity but like others have mentioned, using an injury prone player in this format is bound to result in injury.
I'm saying that at times they used two qb's and were winners because they made it all the way to the super bowl. It's much different than when we had sparano running tebow up the middle into a pile of bodies. I'm not saying I like the idea of using wildcat or a special vick package, but that it clearly can't just be dismissed. Theoretically it could work on a game by game basis because of matchups and if it works just one week teams will have to game plan for it. Marty is a smart dude and if something doesn't work he's not going to keep calling it.
There's a precedent. Vick played a little bit of "wildcat" / relief QB packages in 2009 with the Eagles and Morningweg upon his return from prison. Not a lot, but he did run in a couple TDs, made some 1st downs over the course of the season and had a big TD pass early in their playoff loss to Dallas. I can't remember if they lined up in trick formations when they brought him in or if he just ran the offense, but that might be what they want to duplicate. plus it's good to know Vick has played that role in the past.
I know Vick hinted that they were working on specific plays that will include Geno and him on the field at the same time. I dont really care to much for these types of plays. If they want to do it; fine. If they dont want to do it; fine.
I'm really hoping that this is a contingency for the If and When of Vick playing in the event of Geno getting hurt or sucking. It's not bad to make teams prepare for the WC, but if they do the Tebow scenario, then the Jets are really wasting Marty. Today was the first time we even heard a mention of this, I don't think it's an off-site unless we continue to hear about it.
