Richardson has performed for two seasons. His rookie year was excellent also.

Never the less I stand by my point, the difference between the two QB's is less than the value of a top 3 DE.

With a new head coach and a new GM and a new first round Qb (Mariota), the Jets should be able to bench him for a year without a media uproar or a fan outrage.

If the Jets draft Mariota, they should have at least a year of "honeymoon phase" optimism.

Unfortunately, you are probably right. Once Geno throws 2 picks in a game, the fan base and media will be too much for Woody, and thus too much for Bowles.

That being said, sitting for the first half of the season is not an unreasonable scenario. With Gailey implementing a new offense, Mariota may even be able to learn something from Geno.

Because our biggest hole for the last decade has been QB. You can fill all the other holes but we won't be winning shit without a QB.

The Jets have picked and started two QBs in a row that weren't NFL-ready. If they pick Mariota and start him immediately, then the new regime is just as dumb as the old one.

If the Jets wanted to be able to sit a drafted QB they picked the wrong GM/HC combination. Neither Mac nor Bowles has the chops right now to keep the rookie nailed to the bench while Geno or somebody else struggles on the field. It would have taken Jon Gruden or Bill Parcells or Bill Cowher to actually make that happen.

The first time Geno has a terrible game the tabloids will go berserk differentiating themselves from each other with some of them loudly questioning the decision not to put the rookie on the field. If Geno continues to struggle the drumbeat will get louder and the fan tomahawks will come out. By mid-season we'll have billboards.

If people would pay to put up something as completely reprehensible as "Fire Idzik" they'll put up "Play Mariota" in a heartbeat if they don't like how things are going. The second one is at least decent if not the best move for a fan to make.

Then we get Matt Moore and Iupani from FA?

Good FA QB is absolutely necessary or all these weapons are a waste with Geno there.

We haven't had a good pass rusher or a pro bowl WR in that time either.

We started Smith and Vick. Idzik got them both. Geno was a terrible acquisition and Vick meh...yes it's true they couldn't start. What about the Carrs, Bridgewater's, and Mettenbergers?Thrown right into the fire and doing a decent job. Today we live in a different football world where rookies are a lot more NFL ready.

    Yes and No.
Last year we had Wilkerson, Richardson and an entire decent (not great) defense that Rex put together to rush the QB. We had no long threat at WR or pro bowl WR but had multimillion Decker and Harvin, Jace Amaro, Kerley, Evans,Enunwa to throw to. So as Seattle has proved you just need some decent players to get it going. You can't get anything going if your QB has no idea where to throw the football.

Well if Mac and Bowles are psychic and absolutely know that a good QB will be there at 6 then no, a trade not necessary. Sure we have other holes but these are not priorities. If this team does not make our offense a priority then IMHO we are in trouble. Doesn't anyone feel bad for the Jet defense who kept us in many games for 2014 only to see the off. players struggle to make 2 first downs??
My fear is that Mac does same as Idzik as makes halfhearted attempt at trading up. On the other hand, Mr Idzik left plenty of cash to make some free agency deals.

Jameis Winston has it. If some of you want to wait on your white hope which I'm sure there are many who do, then go right ahead. I want the best player. Get over the hero bullshit. If your hero's are athletes then you are a stupid motherfucker. They are entertainers.

Winston is the better prospect for the Jets by a mile. He may not succeed but they can put him on the field early next year and he'll have a good chance of success. Mariota is probably going to need a year on the bench and there's just no way that is happening unless the Jets trade for Jay Cutler or something to give them the room to develop Mariota.

Pass rushers and pro bowl WR's don't win super bowls.

You're making this claim as if we are set to draft a QB and be done with it. There are a ton of high quality free agents this year and we have more money than God.

Trade up and draft Winston. Sign Cromartie in free agency. Sign a pass rusher in free agency. Sign Lupati in free agency. Take a WR in the draft or sign a lower tier free agent.

We now have an upgraded pass rush, upgraded line, upgraded corners, and another addition at WR.
