Yes. Because if he is going to be the franchise QB for the Jets, he is going to have to not only show maturity and poise, but leadership in the good times and bad. In the game against Oregon, he showed that he can be a head case when they weren't doing so well.
Forget trading up to #1 unless you want to do a Redskins type deal at minimum, probably the same with #2 since they're also unsettled at QB. It's looking more and more like a try to trade back scenario. Thank you Rex for winning those last couple of games.....(I know a team should never play to lose and I'd want any player on the team who played to lose off of the team, but damn...if we're going to be bad enough to only win 4 games couldn't we have been bad enough to win only 2 or 3?)
If I'm TB? nope. Not unless they secretly really do like Mike Glennon, and I'm doubting that they do.
What if TB likes Mariota and thinks there's at least a 50/50 chance he is sitting there on the 6? What if TB takes Winston and then trades him to the Jets for the 6 and Mo Wilkerson when Mariota is still there on the 6?
That latter scenario is plausible, but if Mariota is still there wouldn't the Jets be overpaying at that point? Don't get me wrong, I like Winston better on the field than Mariota, but not Mo Wilkerson better.
Winston is much more likely to be ready to play from day 1 and there is no way that the guy the Jets take is actually going to sit next year. That's a pipe dream.
So you give up your best defensive player and the face of your franchise? I wouldn't, and again I prefer Winston. Now I'd give up my 2nd round pick, or maybe next years 1st instead of a 2nd to make the swap. But I wouldn't do Wilkerson.
I think Sheldon Richardson is the face of the franchise right now and he might well be the best defensive player also.
I'd rather try to get OL from free agency No other qb in thus draft are any good besides mariota and winston and it looks like we definitely won't get either I think cooper or white should be the pick either one will be there
I'd rather just draft the best players and win. But I'm weird that way. What about all the games where Florida State was down and he rallied them back to win? Did he show poise and maturity there? Or, should he have lost so that he could show how good a loser he is?
Why would the Bucs trade a qb that could possibly be great for Wilkerson? I like Wilkerson he is a beast but come on that's rediculious
Perhaps, but Richardson has only performed for 1 season. Wilkerson is perhaps the 2nd or 3rd best 3-4 DE in the NFL and has done it for the better part of 4 years now, barring injury he's a real deal. While I don't think that Winston would flame out and not make the transition to the NFL it is still a distinct possibility, not a big one but it's still there. It's the value of the thing, you'd be trading Mariota and Wilkerson for Winston and I don't think the distance between mariota and Winston is big enough to justify Wilkerson being part of any deal.
He started pitching when he was 4. He's had either shoulder or arm problems. He reminds me more of Jamarcus Russell than Big Ben although Jameis and Big Ben do have one thing in common: an alleged sexual assault and out of control behavior in their personal lives. All this hubbub saying he has the highest football IQ of any player: who said it. Maybe somebody made it up to blow smoke and get someone to draft him high so they can choose the player they want.
Well to be fair Revis screwed them on Revis because he wouldn't renegotiate the deal. The Bucs knew the deal they were getting, they just believed they'd be a better team than they were and honestly if that team had finished over .500 they probably would have kept Revis.
@BillJones According to Rich Eisen, Steve Mariucci says Jameis Winston is "most astute x's & o's guy he's ever put on the board" at combine.
Ok. Also Jameis was a pick machine even though he played for a great team. Mariota had only about 4 picks to around 18 for Winston. I hope the Jets don't draft him.
