The report you are linking is wholly the production of private nonprofit organizations. You said the CDC had come up with the report. In truth the CDC hasn't begun to tackle research into gun violence at this point. They haven't been willing to tackle that subject since Congress forbade them from looking at in 1996. The current Congress is controlled by the same people who told them not to look in 1996. Only an idiot would jeopardize his funding when that's the situation in Washington. So to characterize this as "the CDC concludes guns are not a problem" is a travesty and it is one that is being perpetuated by an entirely private and independent research foundation with no actual ties to the CDC. This is your typical right-wing mechanism at this point: discredit and confuse to the point that nobody is willing to argue with you. When the facts are on your side you're not afraid to have them examined in the open light. That's not the case with gun lobby at this point and so all we get are murky obfuscations designed to roil and cloud the waters. It's like Big Tobacco in 1965 all over again. Another generation of profits is all they're looking to squeeze out because the facts are set so heavily against them that they cannot win a rational debate that looks openly and honestly at them.
