didnt they offer a boat load of cash to that reject from washington but he failed the physical??(that was a couple of years ago) Tanny will get this fixed. or someone who was retired out of football willl replace him.
Don't release him.....let him sit. Don't give him the opportunity to sign with anyone else. I like Kendall a lot, but there is no reason to pay a 34 year old guard $2.7M. Also, I wouldn't want to let anyone else in that locker room think that we will put up with this crap. DbJ
I agree. Don't do anything is an option here. He didn't complain when he signed the contract. What gives him the right to now? I get paid a salary that I bargained for. If I didn't like the deal, I would find another company. Like it or not, he needs to suck it up, and compete.
I'd take it a step further, ScotsJet. I'd spread out the difference between his current salary and what he wants among the OLinemen, not just 1k apiece.
The biggest point missed in this entire argument is that he makes 1.7M this year because he collected a NICE SIZED signing bonus when he signed his contract!!!!
Exactly! This is also the King point cited earlier in this thread. You can't have it both ways, and right now, that's what Kendall is trying to do. It should also be noted that Kendall is a VERY smart guy, well versed in economics/investing, etc. So he's trying to get as much as he can. However, at 34 years old, he's also found a nice way of avoiding the OTA's which at this stage of his career he probably wants no part of.
he wants a 1 mil bump? dont see why the FO doesnt give it to him...hes solid, AND he helped mangold out agreat deal...theres no reasonother than precedent that they dont pay him...and thats bullshit.
Do nothing or dump him. These are the only two viable options for the Jets. Paying him a penny extra sets back the Jets FO big time and is a pandoras box that cannot be opened. Since he is the "clubhouse lawyer" type and not really a great fit anymore I vote for the dump option.
If you are concerned about the "market changing" sign a shorter contract. Players sign longer contracts to get more guaranteed money. If a player is confident in his ability, sign a one-year deal, be a free agent every year and include an insurance policy paid by the team in the contract. The work analogy doesn't apply, because I am assuming the guy at work don't get a big signing bonus up-front. I am only for paying a player what the market dictates...when he is a free agent. If every player cried until they were paid market value, then veterans would be out of work because teams would not have the cap room to pay every player. I actually find it surprising that the Jets haven't cut Kendall yet. Unfortunately, I imagine he is sticking around because Mangini doesn't want to make the line any weaker than it is already.
I'm torn on the issue...but if the F.O.'s argument is, "He's under contract," then how do they justify asking a player to take pay cuts, like they're probably trying to do with J-Mac?
It may be that Pete Kendall is reacting to the overinflation of salary for OL in recent times, it may be that he thinks I've got very little left and won't see the final couple of years of the current deal. However unless the current contract is all guaranteed money (which I doubt)you play to get paid. If he chooses not to show up to voluntary OTA's, which he is entitled to do and CS see this as not being the guy they want around then Pete Kendall will have to live with the consequences. If this allows younger guys an opportunity to show a little and gain coaching/technique time from their position coaches and maybe nudge themselves into a stronger situation competition wise Pete Kendall has to live with the consequences. However I don't see a situation arise where Pete Kendall will just tank because it will cost him in the long run. $1.7m. I don't know anyone who wants to live with those consequences. Anyone who can does not need the money and then it becomes pure ego. So let him show for camp, prove he can hold his starting job and the CS can constantly reevaulate how he fits for the Jets in future. However no more money no way.
That's odd because I remember when we signed him and it was said in the only articles I had found with any details of his contract, even on the nflpa.org page, that he received no signing bonus. Did he restructure? (Edit: the only place I can find it still mentioned at the moment is Leberturd's Jets Confidential site: http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=211&p=8&c=1&nid=2524519 The link is on the left hand side - 'Jets Notebook: Kendall gets five-year deal... Free agent center won't receive a signing bonus', but since I don't subscribe to that pathetic site I can't post the article here.)
Agree with this 100%. Kendal is good, certainly not great, and not even close to a key player on this team. Caving to an older guy who's on the lower middle end of the food chain could have disastrous consequences when it comes time too sign our stars and role players. Don't get me wrong though, I'd like to see Kendal in a Jets uniform for another year, but not if it means opening the contractual flood gates for others down the road.
