The proof for Tannenbaum will rest on the shoulders of one of the young QB's. If we don't have a QB that can at least show the promise of being able to compete in our own division in year 4 than you have to say Tannenbaum has failed to find the key player to rebuild the team around after 4 drafts and 4 FA periods with plenty of cap room. A CB, A kick returner, a LT and an inside linebacker is not a great legacy. This year and next year are going to be critical for Tannenbaum to be seen as anything more than a bean counter.
From Day 1 I said the ONLY thing the Jets could possibly say was that they wanted Favre back - not knowing who the new coach would want and all... It was ridiculous how the media and fans went off on every word "OMG OMG Woody LOVES Favre" and all that crap.... A lot of people just get taken for a ride... Even now - Interesting how Cartman can profess 100% that the Jets HATE Clemens... Please - just sit back and let it play out and dont' get all whacky.
Maybe Tannenbaum told Favre to hold off on announcing his retirement until after they used him a coach bait. Ryan did say something like Favre announcing his retirement was like 'a kick to the stomach'. He's a savvy businessman and strategist, I'm just nowhere near sold that his approach is going to end with an elite team instead of an axe.
Tannenbaum is smart enough to publically go along with the boss' man-crush, what else was he going to say? I bet he's thrilled with the cap room, especially since he just hired a defensive minded head coach. I judge him by the talent he's put on the field over three years, and to me he's done a pretty good job.
