Both are excellent points. Throughout Rex tenure, he's been given a free pass on all offensive woes. The previous Offensive Coordinator, Shotty Jr. had thousands of posts in this forum blaming him for everything offensive but few extended that blame to include Rex himself. The buck stops @ the head coach for everything except offense for too many Jets fans. On GM: Tanny's done a good job with the $$ stuff but the overall depth on this roster is not good. With one injury on the OL, the season is basically over. If Holmes gets injured then the WR is totally inexperienced. Jets have one TE who can't block and big question marks on other TE positions. RB is Greene & bunch of question marks. The talent on offense just seems to be so off. Tanny has hit some home runs when adding top-level talent to the team but the overall depth is not there. === If Rex & Tanny have to both stay or leave then I'd like to see them both get a couple more seasons. If they can be separated then I'd like the Jets to consider pushing Tanny more into cap-specialist role & consider other candidates for GM.
If I remember right, both Rex and Tannebaum's contract goes through 2014 with Sanchez is guaranteed through 2013. I think that probably gives these three a 2-year window and if they still haven't made it at least back to the AFC Championship Game, I'd think they're all gone and we start over.
Woah... I don't think an AFC Championship Game is what we need. I would like it, of course. However, if the Jets make the playoffs in the next 2 years and win at least 1 game per year (or 2 games in a single year), then I think their jobs will be safe. We all want a Superbowl, but if the Jets are perennially a presence in the playoffs then I think Woody will be satisfied enough to not "start over."
What im sick of is ppl counting out rookies and new guys before theyve ever seen a snap. How do you know how these guys will perform??? It's like even when Rex says Stephen Hill is doing really well and could be great for us this year, and ppl are like He's just trying to sell it, sell it to himself more then anybody no way Hills that good. HOW DO YOU KNOW?!?!?! lol like srsly?? What if D.Davis breaks out week 1??? What if Coples suddenly turns it on?? How does anyone know?? Lets wait and see whats up week 5-7
How is the cap setup for 2013? the Jets will be going all in, taking bad longterm contracts, trading for stars with only 1 year left, etc.
if Pennington had not been extremely injury prone, or if Sanchez had played well last year this would be a non-question - the only thing Tanny has failed to do is to deliver a top tier QB, which is hardly his fault as there are only a handful on the planet.
Well I count not delivering a top tier pass rusher and not delivering an acceptable RT and not delivering an acceptable strong safety and not delivering acceptable wide receivers and not delivering an acceptable coaching staff also, but maybe that's just me.
I have been saying for a long time that, no matter what you think if Ryan, the Jet problems are more roster related than coaching. Not enough depth overall, no pass rusher, a mediocre talent at Qb obtained with the fifth pick of the draft, failure to replace Hunter, the team's worst starter, the VD pick and an overall mediocre draft in 2010, can't say much yet about last year's draft other than I liked Kerley but not that much... Add it all up and Tanny is mediocrity personified as the Jets' GM.
I don't think you can absolve Rex from the blame if the Jets fizzle this year. He is a dam good coordinator but not all coordinators make good head coaches. From an outsiders perspective, Rex getting control of this team is huge. If they continue to fight, have locker room issues, etc., Rex will be going back to DC and making some NFL team happy.
A lot of that is very valid in my opinion. But they would probably be better served to take a hard look at their scouting department. I think Woody knows that Tannenbaum isn't a scout, and he relies on his scouts to help him with personnel. It should be interesting though now that Joey Clinkscales left and has been replaced.
My post did not give Ryan or the other coaches, past and present, a free ride. I said the problems are MORE roster related. I remain a Ryan supporter, but my support took some big hits last year. I doubt you saw any of his post game pressers on SNY. Some were, well, bizarre.
I agree. The preseason can't get here soon enough. I think that'll be a much better indicator of our progress than playing against ourselves.
Most of your beef with the Jets management lies on picks that have been within the last 3 years. Most people don't come straight out of the draft to become difference makers their first 2 seasons. If you look before 2009, we had a whole bunch of excellent drafts. Gholston is pretty much the only 1st round complete bust we've drafted in recent times. Vlad Ducasse was drafted in 2010 for the specific reason to replace the older guys on the line. If he emerges this year, and Sanchez breaks out, and Greene continues to improve and get more reps this year, the 2009/2010 picks will look amazing in retrospect. Obviously right now there are still questions, but you can't shut the book on the class of 2009/2010 after just 2-3 years.
QFT. I think he's encouraged the competition between the offense and defense, which is fine when the two units are fairly even in talent levels, but almost all of the best talent on the Jets is on the defense, and the defense has dominated the offense continuously in TC. In that case, Ryan ought to be looking to cool the rivalry rather than feeding it. Tannenbaum has NOT hit a "winner" in the draft since he grabbed Revis in 2007. His best draftees since then have been mediocre starters who likely wouldn't be starters on most NFL teams.
in 2009 tanny made great trade bringing in braylon edwards in 2010 tanny made great trade in bringing in santonio in 2011 tanny made good move in bringing in plax---he was out of football 2 years and still did well scoring 8 tds im disappointed he didn't bring in a wr for 2012----bad action on tanny as we are very weak at wr
