If Woody is so determined to sell PSLs, wouldn't he be doing some things differently?

The people who have to buy the PSLs want Favre gone, and in no way have Schott to be our next head coach. They would like to hear positive things about Spags, and that we are bringing in Rex Ryan and every other good coordinator in the business. The fact that the HC position is such a big question mark with no candidates so far are really backed by the fans, it seems like Woody of doing the exact opposite of what he should be doing to sell those PSLs. Especially when things are coming out about frontrunners nobody wants.

Ever hear of Johnson and Johnson?

"Robert Wood Johnson IV (born April 12, 1947 in New Brunswick, New Jersey), nicknamed Woody Johnson, is the owner of the National Football League's New York Jets. He bought the Jets from the estate of Leon Hess in 2000. Johnson purchased the team for $635 million, the third-highest ever for a professional sports team and the most for one in New York. Johnson is a graduate of the Millbrook School and the University of Arizona.

The son of Robert Wood Johnson III and an heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, Johnson is a well known philanthropist. He became involved in charitable organizations full time in the 1980s. Johnson is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was a major fundraiser for George W. Bush's 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns. In 2000, Johnson was the fourth largest contributor to Bush's presidential campaign, giving $126,332. He has started a research foundation, the Alliance for Lupus Research.

Johnson is also the Chairman and Chief Executive of the Johnson Company, Inc., a private investment firm."

Believe me, owning this team is just another toy for this man.

Were you under the assumption that I thought he was going to do it successfully? Very few of the things that have happened in the past few years have made sense. Football sense, anyhow.

The Redskins have been one of the most valuable fanchises in the league since forever. I live in the DC area and I can tell you Skins fans are even more brutal on Snyder than we're being on Woody. Maybe Skins fans are even more gullible than Jets fans, but then, Skins fans don't have PSL's to worry about.

Again, I don't know that you're wrong. Most of us were happy with the acquisitions we made last off-season. I think it was something to the tune of $140 million on free agents? I don't know, but that looks to me like he's at least trying to build a winner.

The Johnson Company, Inc. and Johnson and Johnson, Inc. are two different companies. Woody (RWJ IV) has never been in charge of JNJ. The company mentioned in his bio is just a legal way for him to piss away more of his granddaddy's money. He's a trust fund baby of the highest order.

I sure didn't have a clue he was the one...but regardless, this team does bring him enough to work with...and he is probably keeping an eye of what is happening in the org.

He was saying that when Cowher might still have been convinced. Do you really think for a second that Shitty or Ryan or Spags or any other third rate coordinator would have any say in anything?

Maybe he isn't as smart as people here think he is. Don't forget he never earned a dime of his money. He just happened to be born a Johnson.

Thats only proving my point. Woody wanted Cowher here more than Favre, otherwise he wouldn't have said this.

Going back to the main point, which Tanny and his politics, Woody knows better. People on the board are claiming Tanny tried to set up a meeting with Cowher w/o Woody present. Im sure if that was the case, Woody would have asked for and explanation or two from Tanny...as he seems more interested in Cowher than Favre.

My whole point is, this conspiracy is total BS created by us, the fans. Atleast it is not to extent where winning does not matter anymore to Woody. Didn't he just gave up like more $150 in contracts to free agents last summer? Maybe that money was considered investment, but it was to strengthen the team 'as well'.

OK, let's interject some sense into the madness:

    1) Woody is cheap, only cares about the bottom line, will not spend to make the team successful, wants to hire a coach "on the cheap".

Ridiculous! Some facts... Season tickets are sold out! Have been for decades. The demand is so great that the Jets can CHARGE to be on the waiting list! With this kind of demand, in the financial capital of the world, Woody can sell season tickets and PSL's all day long, regardless of the quality of the product on the field. And yet he still spends milions to bring FAs here this past off-season, including 13 million for BF. He has given the "football people" everthing they wanted. He also built a state of the art facility in NJ.

Is he aware of the bottom line? Of course, as any good businessman should be. But he is not cheap.

    2) Tannenbaum is the corporate antichrist, throwing EM under the bus. BS... maybe he saw Eric over his head and realized it was not going to work. So he should fall on his sword with EM? Would you in his place? I think not. If he is smart enough to distance himself from a sinking ship, more power to him.

    3) Tanny is manipulating the coaching search to gain power. More BS. he already has the owners ear. They speak on a daily basis, so Woody already trusts him. Why would he jeopardize that by doing something shady? To possibly protect something that is already secure? I doubt it.

It sound more like sour grapes on your part. Whats the matter, got screwed by corporate America? Maybe it's you, not them.

WOW..you have that totally backwards. He IS cheap because tickets have been sold out for decades. He never spent a cent in the off season before this year and he only did this year to sell PSLs. The PSLs will net him a lot more then he spent. See where those fat contracts go once the PSLs are sold. As far as coaches are concerned he hired the two cheapest guys on the market at their times.

Here's the way I see it.

Woody Johnson bought the Jets franchise more for prestige than for investment. To a man with as much of a fortune as he has (and has coming), this was pocket change. But it gives him something to do... a purpose for getting up in the morning aside from attending a few philanthropic meetings and charitable events... a feeling he actually accomplished something business-like that day. I'm not trying to be cruel to Mr. Johnson, but this is just the way I see it.

Along comes the notion of having the Jets build their own stadium after it becomes apparent his tenancy lease with the Giants is about to expire. So he goes on a Don Quixote-like search for the Impossible Dream... a place to build his very own toybox for this rather pleasurable if not temperamental toy, the NY Jets.

Alas! There's a place in Manhatten on the West Side! But, OMG, the cost. And what if it's a horrendous loser? What if the Jets don't play well and the fans won't come? I'll be ridiculed unmercifully and appear like just another failing little rich boy. No... can't have that.

So yes, Mr. Tisch and Mr. Mara, I'd be willing to share a stadium with you. We'll share the costs and both make money and that will go a long way to convincing people I'm not the binky-sucking, sniveling little "trust fund baby" they think I am! And I'll actually make it profitable to legitimize my "business prowess," not that I ever had anything to do with the unbelievable success of my daddy's company.

So the stadium in the Meadowlands is announced and already, before the ink even dries, there's talk of escalating costs... highly escalating costs. And the Mara family is pushing the hell out of me to make it fancier still... "state of the art" now. And 5-star restaurants on the premises... WTF? This all costs tons of money to build.

Okay, Mr. Mara, I guess I'm with you on the PSLs. No other way out now because I'm in this up to my eyeballs and my reputation as a businessman is on the line. Even though I'm just a graduate of the Millbrook School and was basically a party animal at ASU, I don't need to have people thinking I can't run something and still be profitable. I'm in.

Christ, what do I do now? "Hey Mike, what can I do to sell these God-damn PSLs? Oh, Brett Favre might be available? He's pretty good, right?" Okay, get him in here and I'm gonna set up this eBay auction... I know it sounds kinda weird but what the hell, let's see how many of these things we can stick... er, I mean, sell to my stupid suckers... er... I mean, season ticketholders.

Hey, wait a minute! Everything was going real good at 8-3, but now we're fucking losing? And just when my PSL sale fell flat on it's face too! What's this, now we can't even beat a fucking 3-12 Seattle team with an O-line (I think O-line stands for Offensive Line, right?... see? I am learning okay?)?

Well call that fat little fuck Mangini into my office right now, I want to fire his pudgy little ass. Better yet, you do it Mike. You tell that fat pudgy little porkface he's finished. Washed up. Sick and tired of his stupid little press conferences anyway. This is the face of a franchise that I, Woody Johnson own? No way!

Now go ahead and do that and then you need to get me somebody as head coach who will draw people. Don't forget about these PSLs now, Mike. I'm really starting to look like somebody who doesn't know WTF he's doing and really, my ego just won't take that. I know I appear to be a sniveling little pile of parrot droppings compared to others in the business world who've made their own fortunes, people like that geeky little college dropout Bill Gates, for example. But I can't have people thinking I'm a complete clutz! I'm going to sell these fucking PSLs if it's the last thing I do, otherwise I'll look like a real idiot.

What's that you say? Some guy named Bill Cowher wants to talk directly to me? I've got an important uh... er... meeting in Brussels this weekend. My foundation needs me to keynote speak on my favorite subject, "The Where-To-Fors of Philanthropic Endeavor - To Give or Not To Give, That Is The Question." Like that title? I came up with it in the shower this morning. Anyway, tell this guy Coward or Cowherd or Cowher or whatever it is that I'm out of town and you handle it.

If he don't want to come aboard, just find us somebody else who can get these damned PSLs sold. That means appearing like we're building a winning franchise! I mean, of course we want to win Mike... never said we shouldn't do that, but you know what the bottom line is here. I am not going to fall flat on my face with this God-damned Jets franchise. I've got to sell these PSLs if it's the last thing I do... and everything else will take care of itself after that.

This is just reality. GM usually get to fire one coach before they get axed themselves thats just the way it works. Tanny has no one to blame but himself if his next pick goes South.

I'd rather wait until all facts are out instead of trying to make a statement on something based on either rumor or hearsay.
