In my opinion, we need to stop referencing the recent Patriots dynasty with Tom Brady as the model to follow on offense considering Brady is one of the Top 3 QBs of all-time and the clutchness of those teams was off the charts. While we are at it, let's stop referencing the 2000 Ravens (defense) as the reason you don't need a star QB to win a SB as that was one of the Top 3 defenses of all-time. I am not saying that we shouldn't aspire to have an all-time team, but the chances of emulating either one of those teams to the degree of their success is pretty slim.
Its got nothing to do with who is the GM, or who was... every move made is to make the team better... whats so hard to understand??? It doesn't have to mean "oh, no confidence" its just flat out, no matter how you try to spin it, Cutler is a better QB than ANYONE available right now be it on the Roster, Free Agent or in the Draft. The GM's job, is to make us the best possible team. ** Edited **
2 1st round picks or anything less & you have to do it we will in the hunt for the next 10 years I can not say that for sure with Kellen or Ratliff but I can with Cutler.
I said this because the prior poster made a comment that said part of the reason Cutler is good is because he has Marshall which is not true. Get the franchise QB you can always add a WR not the other way around THE QB IS NOT A PLUG & PLAY SPOT YOU BUILD A TEAM AROUND IT.
I think you are making the case for actually having a top flight QB. Once you have that, building a team is easier. Average skill players at WR/RB/TE become above average. Defenses aren't on the field as much and perform better. Hell, defenses are even built easier. Case-in-point, the Colts defense is built to stop the pass hence the 250# DE. They expect to play from ahead and don't necessarily build the team to stop the run.
I agree with you but reality is there is a cost associated with any move you make. I suspect it's going to take an enormous package of talent either proven, potential or both to get Cutler. If we had a QB who the expectation of managerment was excellent tools, good head, good leader that they were comfortable with I don't think we would be publicly in the mix. It's not as if we are a QB away from being a SB team. This team has some serious holes.
Serious holes become a little less serious with stability at the QB position. Something we have lacked for a long long time...
EPIC UBER FAIL Two 1st rounders, a 3rd rounder and Kyle Orton. If Tanny was about to be "taken", then the Bears got raped while being beaten with a shovel
