How do you have a discussion about the best CAREER QB in Jets history and start it out with "it's unfair to even compare their careers as a whole"

I think you deserve a Stokes response.

    You are an idiot.

No prorating, no projecting, no average per game or per year.

    Careers AS A WHOLE.

That's what "career" means. Not a sample size, not cherry-picked, not some games are important and some aren't.

You don't rank "careers" based upon what they did, on average, per season.

Go look at Frank Reich's stats if you're going to do that.

But it's unfair to compare their careers as a whole.

the prorating is valid, it's not like ken was here 15 years. he was primary starter for 7 years, mark 4. It's not a huge difference. he didn't win a div title, he didn't win a playoff game, he was never 1st team all pro, it's not like his Jet career is littered w/ great moments. 95% are from 1985 and the beginning of 1986.

Post season rushing game rankings (just to compare how big of an effect it had on PS success)

    1985: YPC: 10th: TDs per game: 0
    1986: YPC: 3rd: TDs per game: 1
    1991: YPC: 10th: TDs per game: 0
    2009: YPC: 4th: TDs per game: 1
    2010: YPC: 3rd TDs per game: 1

09 and 10 were slightly better, but it still doesn't excuse O'brien from turning into Matty Ice in the playoffs.

That's fine for you, I just find it strange that in a discussion of CAREER accomplishments--good or bad--folks want to project out what player X WOULD have done had he played longer. Hell, by that criteria, Don Mattingly is in the Prorated Hall of Fame.

If you look at the career leader page in Jets history (or in NFL history), I don't think they break it out by average.

Nothing was cherry picked. I included EVERY year both QBs played on the Jets and pro rated them. Saying you don't rank careers on what they did on average per season is one of the stupidest responses I've ever read from you and that says a lot. So anybody with a 15 year career is better than anybody with a 10 year career, in your eyes. People like you are the reason America is falling apart. Fucking technicality lawyers. "Durrrrr you totally said it's unfair, then compared them." No shit sherlock. I tried to make it as "fair" as possible since Sanchez' career isn't over. That's how prorating works. It's just too bad your entire argument hinges on semantics.

those #s are a little misleading since WC and trick plays accounted for a lot of the good YPC. Let's look at the primary Rbs:

    1985: McNeil/Hector 4.3
    1986: McNeil/Hector 3.9
    1991: Thomas/Baxter/Hector 4.0
    2009: Jones/Greene 4.4
    2010: LT/Greene 4.1

it's all pretty similar but again just #s don't tell us everything. LT had good #s but he was great the first 5 weeks and bad the rest of the way in 2010. In 2009 a couple of late game big runs helped Jones' YPC go way up.

    if I had a choice I'd take Freeman/hector over Jones/Greene or LT/Greene

LOL!!!!! Passer rating IS based on their career average. LMAO!!! You only need to pro rate numbers like yards and interceptions because they add up over the years, so saying that somebody is better because they have more yards in a 9 year career than the other guy does in a 4 year career is flat out stupid!!!! Passer rating is a percentage. What a joke of a post. At least support your argument with stuff that's relevant.

I think you should get an edge for longevity but I don't think 3 more years w/ Ken's production is enough for ME to rank ken ahead of Mark.

It's a CAREER discussion--not an AVERAGE discussion. Nobody gives a crap about passer rating when talking about all time players.

    It's yards. TDs. Completions. INTs.

It's not O'Brien's fault that Sanchez got kicked to the curb after 4 years.

Your argument is really really stupid.

Okay. It's a career discussion, but career averages mean nothing and nobody gives a crap about passer rating, even though it collectively encompasses all the QB's stats. Riiiiiiight.

Sanchez's career isn't over yet. I'm not sure if you knew that or not, which is why I said it's not fair to compare their careers WITHOUT pro rating or taking the averages.

Your argument is flat out comical.

If O'Brien had the team El Nacho did, he would have gone much further than Nacho ever took this team to.

Not with the post season #s he had. The D would have needed to come up HUGE.

except Ken had better teams in a weaker era of AFC football so that shreds that theory.

You have to take into account the rule changes as well. We have no idea what post-season #s O'Brien would have had with the 2009 Jets in this era.

yep, all we can due is compare what he did in his era and it was poor w/ more talent against weaker teams.

He had more talent in regards to weapons on the outside, but the defense / coaching / running game was better in 2009 compared to 1985 / 1986.

2009 was a better team all around, O'Brien would have been more of a service for us that year.

our run game was vastly overrated in 2009 and let's not forget we lost Greene in the '09 title game and Jones was running on fumes in postseason.

Our D in 1985 was really good too and only gave up 16 pts in the playoff loss, the '09 D gave up 30 and would have been more if Indy didn't take their foot off the gas pedal.

The running game was #1 overall in 2009. There were games where we put up some big numbers running the football. I also like how you mentioned that we lost Greene in the 09 game. I am certain O'Brien could have made more plays when Greene went out in regards to throwing the football. He was the better passer. Sanchez did have a good game - but I think O'Brien could have done more.

You need to look at the body of work overall in regards to the defense (reg / post). The 09 Jets were better overall.
