Why do you think that Manuel gets a longer leash? He's an early first round pick. Geno was an early 2nd. If anything Geno should get the longer leash.
More money is tied to Manuel, he should get the longer leash because they made more of an investment to him.
Yeah, considering the Jets only made the playoffs 3 times of out his 10 years here and 2 out of 3 of those, the Jets got bounced in the first round, he's definitely awesome. Honestly I rank Curtis Martin higher along with Namath, Gastineau, Klecko, Revis and Maynard. Hell even Mark Sanchez had more post season success than O'brien.
are we not allowed to post unbiased opinions? Ken was my favorite player as a kid but he wasn't anywhere near Marino and Kelly. maybe for parts of '85 and '86 but the man never even won a playoff game and I am supposed to hail him? I appreciate every player who wore a Jet uniform, it doesn't mean I have to pretend they were all great b/c if they were we'd have more than 1 SB title and app.
Other than Sanchez, I'm not sure any of those other guys played QB, so I can't put them on a list of greatest Jet QBs. Maybe you have a different scoring system. And as much as I liked Sanchez, if you think he was a better career Jet QB than O'Brien then LOLOLOLOLOL. _
he definitely was. ken put up better #s w/ great talent around him but Ken couldn't win a playoff game in a weak era for AFC football w/ teams that were as talented as any in the AFC. I would take Mark over Ken w/o a doubt.
Mark was better than Ken. no doubt about it. I like to win games and mark helped us get closer to a SB than at any time in my life. Ken never got us close w/ arguably better talent w/ no Pats to worry about and a much weaker AFC. Ken was a favorite of mine as a kid but he is another guy that is vastly overrated by jet fans.
Mostly NY media and our fans. If this season blows up and/or Geno gets yanked for Vick early on then chances are we go after a QB in free agency and draft a QB early on in next years draft. And Geno goes into next years training camp as the favorite for 3rd string And for me EJ would have to be horrible to be yanked. Remember he's a Marrone guy. Took Rex 4 years to pull his guy. Plus Im looking at the draft positioning in a different way. Even though a lot of people thought that Geno would be taken before Manuel, the fact that EJ was taken in the 1st gives him a longer leash to me.
First rounders always have a longer leash. Right or wrong. More is invested in them by the organization, they are going to get as long as possible to pan out.
You put Ken O'Brien on the 2009 Jets, and I think we go to the SB. Stable offensive line, good running game. The vertical game would have been $$$ with O'Brien. The 2009 / 2010 teams were better then O'Brien's teams.
he said 2nd best QB, what's that have to do with Maynard Revis Martin, or any of the other non QBs you named?
I read it as player for some reason. But Junc is right about Sanchez. He destroyed O'brien's post season numbers (which were bad). I'm not saying his career as a whole is as good, but I'll take Sanchez in the playoffs anyday over O'brien.
True, but a good amount of Jets fans wanted Wilson gone after year 2. That logic seemed not to apply at the time. Odd.
The discussion wasn't about who had better post season numbers--it was who had a better career as a Jet QB. As much as I like Sanchez, O'Brien was a better career Jet QB. _
That's a bogus argument. There's only 7 mil of dead money on Manuel's contract. After this season, the Bills will free up $22 mil in dead money. The Bills have the money to do whatever they want at qb. Manuel had a better season. Maybe that's why he would get more leeway?
