Tannehill was not terrible last year. He finished poorly. Overall the guy had a solid season, which for a second year starter is very promising.
he was the reason Miami missed the playoffs, quality QB play and they easily make it. he had his moments such as an excellent game vs. NE in December but overall was too inconsistent and held Miami back.
Yes he was. I know it's hard to see b/c his #s looked pretty good but he held Miami back if you watched him play.
yes he did. Let's look at their 8 losses, shall we? at NO- didn't show up or compete. bal- D scored TD to tie it late or Miami wouldn't have had a chance. D gets stop w/ game tied, Ryan leads 3 and out. Bal kicks FG, Ryan has almost 2 mins to get in FG range, sets up 57 yarder Buf_ throws INT for TD, throws INT in EZ, up 1 late trying to run out clock fumbles and sets up GW FG for Buf. Trailing by 2 got ball near midfield, only had 23 secs but needed one passs to set up long FG and couldn't do it. at NE- shut out in 2nd half at TB- had 2 possessions after TB took 3 pt lead, failed to even get into FG range. Car- shut out in 2nd half at Buf- shut out NYJ- throws 3 INTs, leads O to 7 pts so that was 7 points TOTAL the last 2 weeks against mediocre teams needing 1 win to get to playoffs. yeah, he was awesome!
He was not the only reason Miami missed the playoffs. He struggled the last 2 weeks which can happen to young QBs, but they had no O-Line to speak of, overrated skill players (Mike Wallace), it wasn't just on him. Going up against a guy like Rex in the final week of the season is a tough spot for most QB's, let alone a guy just finishing up his second year. Overall the guy had a good season to build upon. You can't just base it on wins and losses. 53 guys are on a team.
of course he wasn't the only reason but he was the biggest. The OL issues were incredibly overblown. the 2nd half of the year their OL was pretty good and they dominated our great DL in both games. Wallace is a good player, hartline is a good player, Clay is a good player. he had more than enough skill players to win. Compare that to ours. I am not saying he sucks or can't play in this league, he certainly has the tools to succeed but he was not good last year and was the biggest reason Miami didn't finally make another postseason.
Miami was definitely a 2 faced team. They seem to go as Tannehill goes. When he struggled they looked lost even on defense. Miami needs to fix their O line.
Rankings do tell part of the story - watch all 2009 games again and my point is proven. Each game the running game was reliable and carried our QB in the majority of games. You can make up the excuses all you want but the 2009 Jets running game was far more reliable then the 85/86 rushing game. Case and point the Bills game where we ran for 300+ yards yet our QB threw 5 interceptions. O'Brien isn't throwing 5 interceptions. He was a smarter QB on the field. He was also the better passer which leads me to my next point. O'Brien w/ no running game is still a better passer then Mark Sanchez without a running game. Against the Patriots - we turned the ball over 4 times. O'Brien also got injured in that Patriot playoff game. Bad luck unfortunately.
Stokes you're disqualifying Sanchez because he didn't play enough years for us in your opinion. Your opposition doesn't think that matters. For most teams it would not be enough years but also for most teams OBrien wouldn't even be in the discussion either. The Jets have been so deprived of good quarterback play and playoff success throughout our franchises history we are left with Sanchez and OBrien being debatable as top qb's that we've had. This says more about the Jets lack of success at the QB position than anything else.
disagree, they won a lot in spite of him. that D kept them in a ton of games. Ryan was not good. I think you are just looking back at old game logs/stat sheets. Our run game was good, it was not the best in the league, it was not exceptional- it was good. O'Brien wouldn't throw 5 INTs(his career high was "only" 4), he wouldn't win in SD or NE in the div rd either. Ken's INT set up the go ahead score for NE and it was 23-7 NE when Ken left the game. bad luck indeed.
The season wasn't that long ago Junc. We had the best running game in the entire league. When we wanted to run we were normally successful in 2009. If we weren't the best in the league in 2009 who was? It wasn't the most talented running group, but the most reliable and most effective. Going up against 8 in the box constantly. O'Brien isn't throwing 5 interceptions against the Bills - not when you are rushing for 300+ yards. He was a smarter QB then Mark Sanchez. He also led the NFL with the lowest rate of interceptions in 1985, 1987, and 1988 Regarding the bold part - that's funny, I am looking at the score recap. Here's how it became 23-7. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198512280nyj.htm PatriotsJohnny Rembert 15 yard fumble return (Tony Franklin kick) 23-7
I think he's another one like you know who who loses track of the issue under discussion. In this case he veered off, in more than one direction, actually, from the core notion of JET CAREER. What does post Jet career have to do with Jet career, for example? And what does the notoin of an actual Jet career have to do with pro rata projections? In both cases nothing, quite obviously. Now to be clear an inability to keep track of the subject of a discussion is certainly not something that exists wholly apart from stupidity as we commonly find both in the world. But it well might be a more specific impediment at work in the poster in question than a generalized stupidity.
outside of 2-3 runs in postseason we couldn't run the ball when we wanted to in the biggest games. our rush #s were skewed by facing some bad rush Ds, some garbage time runs and trick plays/wildcat. that's awesome, how many playoff wins did we get w/ those low INT totals? you know what's funny about those low INT rates? in 2 postseason starts ken had 4 INTs, in 6 postseason starts(all on the road), Mark had 3. I said Ken's INT set up the go ahead score, the Rembert TD basically iced the game. we were leading 7-6 when Ken threw that INT, NE scored soon after to take a 13-7 lead into the locker room. a lead they would never relinquish.
The O-Line issues were not overblown. They lost 2 starters during the season. How's that overblown? My point is he has a bunch of decent guys, people overrate Mike Wallace, he's a solid player. Fit Pitts system way better then Miami's. There is more proof to show he was good last year then there is to say he was bad. You can't just look at an overall record and then use that to define how "good" a player is or isn't. Football is a team sport.
I'm not disqualifying Sanchez from anything, I was one of his biggest fans. I'm just not elevating him based on things he accomplished in years 5 through 9 of his Jet career when his Jet career was only 4 years. It's intellectually dishonest. Loved Mark. Can't put him behind only Namath in the pantheon (LOL) of Jet QBs. _
they lost 2 starters and got MUCH better. did you not see that OL dominate our DL? TWICE Wallace would have been by far the best WR on our team, Hartline would have been the best WR on our team, Gibson would have been the best WR on our team, Clay would have been the best receiving threat on our team. They had more talent than any of our teams since 2010. I watched him a lot, not every snap but a lot. perfect example was against us at home, that game should have been 24-28-0 at the half, instead we were in it b/c Ryan stunk but he had great #s. this game is about more than #s, we must watch how the #s are accumulated rather than just cite the #s.
That's your perogative, but not bad. A tad off, but pretty spot on. Joe, Chad and Mark are probably my three favorite Jets. Named my dog Penny after Chad. _
