As NESN.com’s Zack Cox thoroughly explained earlier this week, the Patriots will earn a wild-card spot if, first and foremost, they win their final three games — against the Dolphins, Bills and Jets — and two of the following four scenarios play out: — Browns lose each of their final three games — Colts or Titans lose each of their final three games — Dolphins lose at least two of their final three games — Ravens lose at least two of their final three games So what we need is two of these scenarios to still be "alive" during our game with the Pats. So that means, if NE beats Miami this weekend, that scenario could still play out week 17...so that's one right there. Pats would need to beat Phins and Bills. Then one other scenario would need to still be active--
They're not going to beat New England either way. They needed a perfect game against them the first time and they STILL blew it.
Hard to believe NE can beat the Bills. We are playing the Browns so I can’t root for that. The Ravens CAN lose this week to the Jags and then the next two games are moot for us I guess. Still interesting. Part of me wants Bellichek to beat Brady in the super bowl. But fuck them both.
We would essentially need the Pats to beat the Dolphins and either the Jaguars or Giants to upset the Ravens. Because we do NOT want to beat the Browns, and it's super unlikely the Colts or Titans lose both of their next two. Unless Watson wants to do us a big favor against the Colts, or Stafford has the game of his life against the Titans.
Can't root for this scenario since it implies we beat the Browns which screws us before Week 17. Can't see that happening for either team; probably a 1-in-10 shot. At least you have 2 different teams to see if this happens. Haven't checked schedule but Colts/Rivers more likely to implode, IMO. Titans have Henry who looks like Earl Campbell circa 1979. Again, haven't checked schedule but this is feasible As I recall, final 3 games aren't killers but they got a HUGE win on Monday so they may have Mo Mentum on their side.
Can NE theoretically make it if they LOSE to the Bills and beat Miami/Jets to go 8-8 ? Or they must finish 9-7 ?
The good news is we don't need any of these scenarios to play out, we just need two of them to still be possible come Week 17.
Looks like a great day for college football. Lawrence and Fields are on display against stiff competition. It will be nice to see how they perform
Fields reminds me of Darnold... they are the same size, similar mobility, holds onto the ball too long, stairs down his WRs..
Agree with you 100%, been saying this for a while.... His decision making, hero ball mentality, type of athlete I would put money that he is not the 2nd QB taken.
If we end up with the 2nd pick, I'd try to trade down a bit, grab Lance, and redshirt him for his rookie season like Chiefs did with Mahomes. Then, full speed ahead in year 2.
Well things clarified a little...Fields is NOT a QB I want on the Jets. I still like Lawrence, but will be watching him closely today against ND. Despite the haters, I still like Wilson, although not as much as TL.
Fields definitely hurt his draft stock today. I would almost put him in the same boat as Wilson and Lance now.
He's not as good as Wilson IMO. It's hard to imagine that any team that's really looking/needs a QB will be looking at Fields now. Maybe a team that has an adequate or older QB and wants to groom his replacement? Even then though I don't see him succeeding in the NFL as a starting QB.
I know you’re high on Wilson but he struggled against Coastal Carolina. He would’ve looked worse than Fields today if he played against Northwestern IMO. Fields absolutely did no favors for himself today but I still don’t view Wilson as a hands down better prospect than Fields. Just my 2 cents.
For me, the difference is that Fields looks more like a running QB who can throw, while Wilson looks like a passing QB who can run, if that makes sense.
