Trevor Lawrence will probably be an playoff-caliber by year 2 at the latest.

So here is more optimistic reasons why we will lose the remaining games for those that want to 100% secure TL:

Hawks: away game for us / they are way more talented / they just lost to Gmen and will be focused - Easy Loss
Rams: away game for us / they will be on 10 days rest / way more talented and great defense - Easy Loss
Browns: will most likely need our game for seeding from fans I spoke to / more talented / better coaching / they want to lose their tag as last winless team - Likely Loss
Pats: might be fighting for a playoff spot, but probably not / Bill owns Darnold / away game for us / has chance to give us the scarlet letter - close loss

My heart is telling me we do win one--but I'm hoping Jags squeak one out as well....

Pats game is definitely my biggest concern. Not very concerned at all about the Seahawks/Rams games. Browns are slightly concerning but not much.

While I definitely understand your thought process on this, I would respectfully disagree.

If we can avoid being the 3rd team in NFL history to go 0-16 and still get Lawrence, that would be ideal IMO. So in the scenario you laid out, I would be rooting for a Jets win vs the Pats in week 17.

    Same.

At least the Lions have gone winless twice - once before and once after the 16 game format was introduced. Comparatively the Jets may end up being the worst of the worst, though. It would blow to have the title of “worst NFL football team of all time”.

once we close out this 0-16 gem this year, eyes will move right to 2021 to see how long they can keep the streak intact.

    18, 20, 24 games?? or worse. LOL.

Listen its not to be a smart ass to you, but the fact is this team is epically bad. It will go down with a worse stigma than the kotite years. 1 win will not change that.

    and

Sorry, but I disagree. If Lawrence is all that he is advertised to be and he leads us to the playoffs for 10 straight years with a couple of SB Titles mixed in, no one will give a rats' ass about 0-16. In fact, they'll probably say something to the extent that it was one of the most fortuitous "bad years" in NFL history, or they would marvel at how the Jets went from one of the worst teams of all time to one of the best in just a couple of years, and it would become a positive rather than a negative. They'd do NFL films on it. Douglas and the new HC would go into the HOF for the amazing job they did. It would only be the negative nancys, those who are bitter and cynical, and those who delight in focusing only on the negative, who would continue to focus on it. Perspective is everything, and it is something we have control over.

You're kidding yourself. 1-15 is no better than 0-16, particularly with the way this team has played, and the awful job that Adam Gase has done.

To paraphrase Nigel Tufnell, yes it's one better.

Forget that its the jets if you can.......

I do feel that 0-16 is clearly a notch worse than going 1-15. the goose egg really carries that much more negative going forward.

yes both records suck and stay with you but as mentioned the 0-16 leaves a scar that never goes away.

owners have to deal with that forever, regardless of their balance sheet.

Even if it does stay, it SHOULD stay with the Johnsons. They have been THAT BAD as owners. It should remind them every day to quit making decisions about the team every time they get tempted to meddle. It should also be on Gase's record so that no one ever hires him again to coach football.

Some fans have called our two 2nd round picks too much to pay to move up for Sam (before Sam got bad).

So, is a 3rd round pick, two 2nd round picks, and three 1st round picks too much for Trevor? Because that's what it will cost us in missed opportunities to stay at #1.

Could a mid/late 1st round QB (or Sam) plus all those picks be better than Trevor and our current team? (I'm leaving our own picks which we'd have in either case out of it for now).

    Is Trevor >>> Sam (or other QB) + 3 1st round picks + 2 2nd round picks + 1 3rd round pick???

Some additional reasons to go 0-16 rather than 1-15.
    1. It is better in my opinion to be the worst than simply being just another bad team. Going 0-16 is really hitting rock bottom and this is an organization that needs to hit rock bottom.
    2. The Johnsons need to be thoroughly embarrassed and put on notice that what they are doing does not work. 1-15 does that but 0-16 does it better.
    3. Gase deserves to carry an 0-16 stigma wherever he goes.
    4. I was born in the early 1960s and grew up a Mets fan. They were loveable losers. Loveable because they were the worst ever not just bad.
    5. 0-16 to the playoffs and eventually a superbowl is a great story. Douglas, Trevor and the new coach will become heroes and legends if they succeed. The storyline here is so much better and hopefully the media will give us a bit more of a break.
    6. 2 years from now if the Jets are good no one will care what their record was in 2020 but wherever Gase goes the rest of his life people will remember 0-16.
