I'm not so sure that we'd sign Prescott. Personally, I don't think he's worth $40 million. He is not in the same class as Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, or Brees.
Why should Lawrence care how many SBs the Cowboys have won before? The only thing that should matter to him is how many SBs he wins. He wouldn't win many SBs with Mike McCarthy as HC, and would probably be lucky to win 1. Poor Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest QBs ever, was saddled with McCarthy all those years and only won one, when he should have won at least 2-3.
I like Justin Fields. Everyone is talking about Trevor Lawrence, but you can see that Fields will be a playmaker. I think the Jets would be in good shape if they draft either. The key will be building around them and getting the right coaches to coach them.
An interesting thought is what is what if Norte Dame beats Clemson in the ACC championship game . Fields then leads Ohio State to a national championship. Fields plays great and Trevors last game was not so good . Would that change your opinion on who is the first pick
Yeah, he looks very good...good accuracy and touch. I'm not sure how strong his arm is...not saying it's not strong enough, but it didn't wow me. Not a bad "consolation prize" if it comes to that.
Agreed. Even at USC! That is my one worry with Lawrence and Fields. They have such talented teams around them. Yeah, he doesn't have crazy arm strength, but it is good enough for sure. It will be fun to watch him and Lawrence if they both make the College Football Playoff. I don't see that happening. Notre Dame barely beat Clemson at home without Lawrence. Still, if it happened, it wouldn't change anyone's thoughts on Lawrence. I guess Fields could play so lights out that he jumps ahead of him. If so, not a problem.
For the many that feel is either number one pick or bust, hope and pray that the Pats have a shot at the playoffs with the win on the last game. For that matter, let us also hope is a must win for the Browns to remain in the hunt. From what I have seen over the last few games, the Jets are playing harder than ever, short of a few dumb mistakes and poor QB play. If Sam finds lightening in the bottle on a couple of games I can see many of the fans hear explode with anger.
We've talked abut this before but IMO nothing at this point could put Fields remotely close to Lawrence, barring a significant injury. Size: Lawrence Athleticism: Pretty Equal maybe slight edge to Fields Accuracy: Lawrence More experience: Lawrence Reading Defense: Lawrence Fields struggled mightily against a more complex defense in Indiana--that scares me. He looked a lot like, dare I say, our own boy wonder Darnold. Totally erratic when he faced pressure, poor decisions in disguised coverage. I watched that game because I knew it would be his toughest matchup and he failed to rise to the occasion--it was a sloppy mess. Franchise QBs are able to make thing happen when everything breaks down (ie Wilson, Mahomes, Watson) They are always ahead of what the defense is throwing at them. In the words of Daniel Jeremiah, I don't want a trailer, I want a truck!
Fields looked pretty accurate to me, but I wonder if his arm is strong enough? How does his compare to Lawrence's? I don't think you necessarily need an arm like Mahomes, but I think being able to really zip the ball when you need to makes a significant difference.
Lawrence is definitely the better prospect at this point, but when breaking it down, if we're talking athletic ability, that is not equal. Lawrence is an "impressive athlete for his size". Fields is just flat out an impressive athlete - he ran a 4.42 laser-timed 40 as a sophomore. But getting back to the tank, I can honestly say that I will pop bottles championship style if the Jags win another game before the Jets do. Like, literally an extended celebration with alcohol until my wife steps in.
When it comes to assessing QB capabilities at the college level with pro potential, I totally defer to the experts on this site. I'm the first to admit I'm the least qualified in this forum to assess who is better and why. I hope JD arms himself with QB gurus to determine if they are both capable to make a significant impact at the next level. But for once, in my ultimate desire to see how this team could improve once and for all, I went back to college film to see the two prospects we could potentially land with, with an eye on what the experts were saying. I have to admit, recognizing that most pointed to Lawrence as head and shoulders the much better prospect, I was very pleasantly surprised with Justin Fields talent. Hell, based on comments I didn't expect to see such a polished QB. Field accuracy seem pretty much laser sharp to me, he can throw into tight windows, and his athleticism is amazing. I have a feeling many experts might be significantly underestimating Fields potential. May be I have been watching too much Jets football to recognize talent anymore, but I feel a little better thinking that if we miss on TL, we have one hell of a consolation price, assuming of course we get a coach that can groom either of them.
Idiot Alert: Some doofuses out in Chicago actually asking the beat writers/columnists about the possibility of trading their entire 2021 draft to the Jets (or whomever gets the #1 pick) for the chance to draft Lawrence. You see, it will solve their QB problem which is the only thing holding them back.........

I think they have a shot this week vs. Viqueens, Chicago and Colts (if resting starters) Especially if we lose vs. Raiders. That would most likely mean were rolling into Cleveland 0-14. I don't think we're going to win both Cleveland and NE--possibly 1/2 though.

I don't know what the Jimmy Johnson Value of a team picking 16th in each round is but it's nowhere NEAR enough even to do what the Redskins did to get RGIII back in 2012. The only teams trading out of #1 or #2 in 2021 (assuming they end up there) would be Cincy, San Diego and MAYBE the Dolphins (via Texas but that looks iffy now since Texas has won 4 games).
So it's not just me feeling pressure I haven't felt since the Rex Ryan days, huh ? I mean, I'm actually sick at the idea of winning 1 game and blowing Lawrence. I try and calm myself by saying there's no way we fall below #2 (we'd have to win 3 games) and so worst case we either get Fields or a bounty of picks (keeping Sam).
The Raider beat writers and columnists are strangely confident of the Raiders beating the Jets, implying no need to rush back injured players, etc. I think because they got blown out last week vs. Atlanta (which actually isn't a bad team) they feel there is NO WAY they can lose 2 weeks in a row to bad teams. Hope they are right !
