Not sure what else you would want Sam to do. He has handled this situation with complete class and has showed his intelligence in doing so. I agree with your comments on Douglas, but he may believe in Sam like I do. If so, you will have to support it. If not, I will support it. It is fair to say that a new Coaching staff, new players, and a new scheme could help Sam. People keep saying he needs a fresh start, but that fresh start could still be in New York. Because I hate losing. It sucks. Thus, I would love to win 2 games and still get Lawrence.
A 0 win team and a 2 win team are both horrible teams. There is no pragmatic reason to want 2 wins instead of 0.
Sam has handled the situation with class, but he has helped create the situation. He has played like shit. He has made stupid rookie mistakes and is still making them 3 years later. He hasn't learned to read Ds. He hasn't learned to throw the ball away and not take sacks. He hasn't fixed his fundamentals. I don't think intelligence is part of the equation with Sam. Sadly, I think he's a nice kid, but not very bright. If Douglas passes on Lawrence and Fields, trades down and tries to build around Sam, then most likely I am done with this team. I don't believe for one second that Sam can be fixed in NY. I think the pressure and glare of the spotlight and trying to be a savior for the Jets' franchise is too much/too big for Sam. I think his only chance for success is to go to a smaller market team where he won't have to be a "savior," and where he'll already have a good team around him, and a HC, OC and QB Coach that know how to handle him. Even then he needs to be in the right system, and probably needs to sit for at least a half a season if not an entire season, and focus on fixing what's wrong with him rather than preparing for games. If the Jets win 2 games, you can forget about getting Lawrence. Since you still love Sam so much and believe in him, I think you really don't want Lawrence. I get it. In an ideal world, no one would ever want their team to go 0-16, but this isn't an ideal world. It's the Jets' bizarro world created by the two imbeciles who own the team, and all the bad GM and HC hires they've made. We need the #1 pick. To get it, we need to lose all of our games.
The Giants have pretty much been in all of their games and had the opportunity to win 3-4 of them so I think they'll manage to secure 3-4 wins going forward. They still have games against the Eagles, Cowboys, Washington, Bengals, Cardinals and I believe those are all very winnable. I'm not really concerned about the Giants being in position to jump us for Trevor. I'm more concerned about say the Jaguars. Their schedule is brutal but there are 3 games that could go either way (Vikings, Texans, Titans, Browns?) Jets are in the driver seat and if we have to throw games then that's what we need to do. If that means benching starters or playing them for a half then do it.
I did not just randomly say I wanted the Jets to win 2 games. I was referring to the chart that was posted that projected the Jets to be (2-14) and still get Trevor Lawrence. All I said is I would love that. I think you and @NCJetsfan missed that part. There are too many changing variables to want it any certain way. If the new coaching staff loves Sam and think they can make him a winner, you should support that. If they don't and want Lawrence or Fields, I support that too. The Jets are such a mess that when you watch the offense, it literally feels like they are trying to lose. If they are not, and Gase is really that bad and Sam is really that bad, then you have to move on. Douglas will know that. True.
If the Jets lose out on LT, we still have Sam, Becton, Mims, Perine, Mosely, etc to fall back on, and a TON of good draft picks and a yacht load of cap space. Not really terrible. But if the Jags miss out on Trevor, they have NOTHING. I would actually feel worse for them. If we get Trevor, maybe we trade Sam to the Jags for their 2021 1st round pick?
Getting Trevor while also winning 2 games is extremely unlikely. As of now we lose the SOS tiebreaker with all of the other 1/2 win teams.
That would essentially be trading up to a top 10 and possibly top 5 pick. We could get Lawrence and Chase.
Don't even know. But they are as desperate as we were 3 yrs ago. One issue with Sam is he'll be coming off his rookie contract soon. Whoever trades for him will have to pony up, which usually means less draft comp.
They would gladly select Fields at 2 then. I am starting to think that Sam may not get us a 2nd round pick
I think if the Jets end up at #1 or #2, Sam is done in New York. Lawrence or Fields will be the pick in that scenario and Sam will be out the door for the best pick available IMO.
I truly think the Jags are our only competition for #1. The Giants will win 1-2 of the games left on their schedule. They still have Washington, Philly, Cincy and Dallas. They win 1-2 of those games IMO. Jacksonville's best bet for a win is either this weekend or against Minnesota here in a few weeks and I don't like their chances against either team.
This Sunday/Monday; Giants (1-7) @ Washington (2-5). Texans (1-6) @ Jaguars (1-6). Patriots (2-5) @ Jets (0-8). If the Giants win and the Jets lose? It'll become only a 2 team race for the #1 pick. I seriously hope the Texans beat the Jaguars too because Miami owns the Texans pick. and God forbid Miami ends up with the Texans #1 pick? Miami since already having Tua will trade out of the #1 pick and receive an absolute haul with a potential Franchise QB in place and that is a disgusting thought.
Although its true that the worse the texans are the higher the draft pick Miami will get - if the jags beat them it means that Jets would be 2 games ahead of the Jags - securing Trevor far outweighs everything else in my eyes. Also, the extra picks we got from the adams trade, as well as the other trades, makes it so that we really shouldn't focus on other teams extra picks. If Joe does his job and drafts well, and we get lawrence and a good coach, we'll get much better much quicker
False. How did Bill do in CLE during his 5 years before Brady? Lol. Fired. How is Bill doing in NE after Brady? Um. 2-5 and on a 4 game losing streak? Some coach lol. Peyton Manning left his coach and Indy and won a SB in Denver. And if coaches are more important, does that mean Adam GASE deserves credit for Manning setting the all time record for most TDs thrown? Was it OC Gase or All Time #18? The answer is obvious. Coaches are super important but not more important than generational QBs just look @ all the franchise teams that couldn't sniff SBs without first fielding a legendary QB.
