Finally, NDmick, a man shows up who wants to watch the NYJ play the games.

You know, in reading a lot of these posts to this "message board", I get the feeling that a lot of these guys when they read a book go right to the end to see what happens before they bother finishing the first chapter.

    Totally agree.

Hey, the bottom line is the record of the first two seasons fooled not a soul. We werent a 4-12 team..and we werent a 10-6 team. MT and EM took the first two seasons to build through the draft and FREE UP CAP SPACE. They built 40% percent of the offensive line through high draft picks..and used the cap space they have freed up to build another 40% of the line.

Thats 80%. Thats pretty damn good. The last I checked, great offensive guards dont retire at 31..if anything that is a position that ages pretty damn gracefully.

There was a reason MT wanted to get under the cap and it was to BUY GOOD PLAYERS. Not so Woody could put it in his pocket as so many posters were sure of.

Like it was said above...not even at the cost of high draft picks. With all the buying that went on...we still have great draft picks...including the 6th overall pick.

Saying this team is in a win at all costs this year is just being blind with...I have no idea...but it is a ridiculous statement to say the least...and one that cant be backed up if anyone were to take the time to look at this roster and the picks that will be joining this team this year.

Crazy idea I know...but anyone ever think it's OK to contend while still building? I mean, it's entirely possible we're a serious contender this year, doesn't mean we plan to only compete for the next two years. The Pats have been building that team they put on the field last year for the past 7 years, but they still managed to contend and then some during those years.

You have to constantly be building and adding pieces, because in the NFL it's just impossible to keep a roster intact for more than like 4-5 years tops. This regime is building to contend next year, but I highly doubt they lose sight of any long term goals.

I don't think the Tangini were thinking "win now" when they signed all these guys. Last year we were a pretty young team, and it showed. I think we'ved be been mixing in veterans that still have 3-4 years left with the young players we retained this off season.

We are definitely ready to compete now, but if we grow over the next 3-4 years we are going to be quite a dominant force I believe and I have full trust in our coach to coach our players

Thank you kind sir. Years of being on teams with that "Look no further than tomorrow" mentality help when looking at your favorite teams with the potential to be where they were before.

Our coach holds the same sentiment. Thats why I have confidence in him.

We can, that is certainly what you want out of your team. I was speaking from a logical point of view in the general tone. Once its all said and done, we can look at where we stand.

This team is using FA to replace the failed drafts of years gone by. We are far from a win now team we are part of the pack of mediocrity now. We still don't have a developed excellent QB and are at best mediocre to below average at Running back, WR and TE. On D we have a nice mix of a couple of young impact players and solid vets.

This team is a work in progress with a 9 to 10 win ceiling if everything breaks right against a weak schedule.

I agree with most of that except I see a 10-11 win possibility. Our schedule is almost as easy (or more so) than it was in '06.

We are not going to have that great QB anytime soon. Two years at the earliest, probably 3. WR isn't very important without him. I can see the reasoning they would go after McFadden because of that.

Minnesota has a chance to go far this year with a good defense and a non-existant QB. What they have is a great RB.

These FA moves fill holes left not only by bad drafting, but by bad contracts handed out. Bradway let several O-line men walk and attempted to replace them with has beens and never will be type guys. Tangini has been pumping resources into the line now going on three years to fix that.

I would say, if all are healthy, we are average in the RB department. A Good downhill runner in Jones with a very good change of pace/3rd type guy in Leon. The new line make up should give these guys room to show what they can do.

WR we lack depth, but our top two (assuming Coles is around) is very good. Add a guy in round two with some size and this area is less of a concern.

We lack a very good blocking TE, but I think Baker is under utilized by this offense. The guy has catches most of the balls tossed his way. Maybe not having to stay in on most passing downs will help bring him more to the forefront.

A 9 or 10 win Cap is realistic. We Do lack in the QB area. I have hope that Kellen can be the guy with a bit more experince.

I just realized the OP actually used signing Bubba friggin Franks as "proof" that we want to win now.

    I completely disregarded that.

The Signing of Bubba Franks is little more than proof that we have a traning camp upcomming.

Listen their isn't a majic age where a player hits it and he goes down fast. Some players who were great players are finished at 28, and some players can play effective till they are 36. For example I remember CB Terry MCDaniel he was a very very good CB for the Raiders. HE played a high level the previous season and for some reason his play went down real fast after that.(what were suppose to be his prime years 28- didn't turn out thatway. )
Never saw a guy skills fade faster than they did for Terry MCdaniel.

NOw you Look at Kris Jenkins this guy was probably the Best DT in the game at one point, but his career been going down very fast. Yes hes not that old, but his body of work the last couple years say hes not even close to be the same player.(very risky- crazy to give him that big contract extension) Hoping he at 360 pounds dosen't install faith in him.

Alan Faneca- Another guy who played slipped some from the previous year. Could it have been a down year. YES and he bounces big time. OR IT could be that he starting to decline. (again there is no set age where a player skills decline - everyone diffrent) I say this signing was well worth the risk.

Tony Richardson and Bubba Franks are both former probowl players who have seen better days. Neither kill Jets salary cap. So it really dosen't hurt to try and get a good year out of them.

Damien Woody- a older Player who has played a total of five games at RT in his career. THat another big gamble . Could pay off or blow up in their face.

Calvin Pace- I think beside faneca might be Jets best FA signing. The Kid might have the most upside of all the Jets signings.
