My biggest concern is what has already been mentioned, the 4th quarter D. Even last year the Jets had problem closing games (we gave up 5 games on the final drive). The only difference is this year we're finding ways to come up with the ball on the last drive ie, Drew Coleman "look what I found" deflection vs. Miami and strip of Stuckey in Cleveland, Favre dump-in-the-lap pick 6, and Denver giving us a gift. You can call it luck or what have you, i'll take it, I just hope last year doesn't repeat itself. And like I mentioned in another thread, the offense who surprisingly is atop the league in points, is giving the defense PLENTY to work with scoring 23-38 points in all our wins. Once Rex takes the defense back form Pettine we should improve
I watch games. I'm not saying they're bad, I just see too many mental mistakes. Hey, if Rex can be pissed at the defense...so can I.:jets:
We can do better, but those are solid rankings that indicate contribution from both sides of the ball. Last year we had the #1 D, and #15 O. I'd much rather have what we have now, especially with the way our QB has been playing.
As long as we keep winning I don't care what stupid celebrations they do! Are you seriously gonna sit here and complain about being 8-2? A win is a Win and there isnt a team in the league with more wins
I dunno Koz. THey're a good team, I'll give them that, but all the way requires a lot. I guess they have a decent chance since its not an extremely dominant year but hey we can dream bud.
Well...passing defense is rated like 15th. I just feel we give up too many long plays for an alleged elite defensive backfield. Especially in critical spots in the game and 3rd downs.
This is the burning question isn't it? Can this team win the Superbowl? Short answer is yes. This team has the talent to win the Superbowl. Based on what they have shown us so far? Short answer is no. Minnesota 3-6 (Timely pick 6 to stem a scary looking Favre end game drive) Denver 3-5 (4th and 8 Hail Mary PI call) Green Bay 6-3 (Home field shutout) Detroit 2-6 (2 scores in less than 5 minutes to tie/ OT win) Cleveland 3-6 (Last minute TD to tie OT win) Houston 4-5 (45 second TD drive at end to win) Given this teams history it would certainly be defeatist (not to mention downright sad) not to find positives in those efforts. We were in every one of them (including the one we lost) and showed flashes of brilliance in each and every one of them (yes including the ugly one at home on defense) we showed we had plenty of heart and fortitude and found that we have a young QB that could be among the very best one day. These are all things we can hang our hat on for the future of the team and our franchise QB. Truly Impressive. At the same time it would be folly to look at the remainder of the schedule and then on to the playoffs with the expectation that we can keep delivering the same type uneven performances we have against sub .500 teams, against above .500 teams. We are a little dinged up ( I know every team is but we are at extreme risk this Thursday) and playing on a short week against a team that definitely wants to show us what's what this Thanksgiving because of what we did to them last year....so expecting them to break out this week is a bit of a stretch. Not saying it can't happen mind you just saying we have played half a football game more than these guys over the past couple weeks, and games like the ones we just played tend to be more of a drain against the defense than offense. I look for the defense to look a bit flat against that Cincy offense and my best guess is if the Jets are going to win, it will be a high scoring shootout type dillyo. Then we follow that up against 3 division rivals that would like nothing better than to knock us down a peg, and two others with winning records. Imagining they will pull it together against these teams where they failed to do so against the easier part of the schedule is just difficult. My honest fear is that by the time the playoffs start, this team is going to be emotionally and physically gassed, having blown their collective wad on a stretch of games that (on paper at least) should have left us in far better shape to deal with the tougher part of the schedule that looms ahead. Best case scenario is that these gut wrenching wins actually do translate to a first round bye, and better still we get a no pressure game to end the season vs Buffalo. Otherwise..... For the Jets to win the Superbowl this year, it will most likely have to be on sheer adrenaline.
There's certain aspects of each unit that could be better, but it's not a perfect world. Looking at the grande scheme of things, we're in pretty good shape with a well-balanced and highly talented team. I definitely agree that the 3rd down D needs to improve (I think we're ranked dead last in the NFL in that dept.), but overall our D is still nothing to scoff at. Last year we seemed to give up more on the ground, this year it's the opposite. NFL = Not For Long.
