I'm not disputing the realism of it when it's played on the field. I confess that the Jeff Nelsons and Mike Stantons of the world were HUGE pieces to the Yankees championships, and Mike Timlin for the Red Sox, without a doubt. But look at this from a FANTASY baseball perspective. Closers have no more value to a fantasy baseball team than a setup guy. NONE! Both get the same low WHIPs and ERAs, and BOTH can win Holds/Saves category. But tell me how many setup guys were drafted, and the positioning of where they were drafted. It's one thing to have it as a rule and use it to your advantage, and keeping in mind the value of the player during draft time, but no one does that. It's a useless category in this capacity.
I disagree completely. There is nowhere near the pressure level in a setup man. That's why so many of them (LaTroy Hawkins for example) cannot close. Saves are an actual stat. Holds have a formula so screwy that they have no value in a fantasy league. Moss's reliever faced one batter, gave up a hit, and got a HOLD!
And please don't tell me that I'm bitching. I'm a beneficiary of the rule and I'm complaining about it since this is not in the best interest of the league. I'm doing my best Wellington Mara impression.
In the meantime, I'm looking to open up a roster spot through a trade. If anyone wants to hammer out a deal where they obtain 2 of my players for 1 of their own, that would be great. If anyone has any interest, please post or propose. I wouldn't mind emptying out some pitching.
Changes have been made to the league. Cut list has been removed and pending waiver time and trade time has been reduced to one day each,
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=260424116 Hey look who got a hold for coming in and giving up 2 runs!
It's not hopeless to the point where I'd cut him. He's not going around and hitting stuff like Perez and Brown.
I love the hold I got last week. It went something like 0.1 innings, 2 runs allowed, and 4 hits. Classic!!
The past 2 weeks have been horrible for me. I just got waxed again and have fallen to the bottom of the league. Even Ten Sundays is ahead of me. At least it cant get worse....
because Thompson is a project which was very unlikely to pan out, and I don't plan on starting Randy at all unless he strings 3 good starts consecutively.
