At #4 the Jets are virtually guaranteed to get Leinart, Cutler, or Young. Any of the three is fine by me.
LoL. I'd like you to explain how Matt Leinart is whiney. Next compare the two. After that tell me the first time you heard Cutler's name? Most likely at the beginning of bowl week which is when his team didn't even get to participate. I don't want an overhyped Kyle Boller or Patrick Ramsey. Cutler is far from a franchise quarterback, I am sorry to say. He played against average talent and really has about three good games to his name, two coming against two slack teams in Richmond and Kentucky. He has little experience and is only being hyped up because of his live arm and supposedly good frame. He measured in at 6'2" and people rag on Bollinger for being short?
I have never been a big fan of Matt Leinart as a person. As a player he has tons of potential and is a franchise QB as well. Although all this talk about the Jets grabbing Cutler seems like they are smoke screening hardcore and would probably take Leinart at #2. Might as well start researching Matt as well... I probably shouldn't have said Matt is whiny. I wouldn't be dissapointed with Matt Leinart I would just prefer a bigger arm.
Cutler has all of the tools to be a franchise QB. Arm strength, leadership, scrambling capabilities, good touch, accuracy, and is Tough as nails... He was never able to fully blossom because he played in a difficult conference with a weak team.
20% of the players drafted with those tools have been busts, so obviously, Cutler will be as well. DUH!!!
Bollinger's apparently 6' flat in high heels. I heard Cutler is closer to 6'3'' or 6'4'', can't remember which. That aside, I really don't like the idea of trading up. If Cutler is taken by the Titans, either Leinart or Young will fall to us. The only way that this makes sense to me is if the front office believes Cutler to be the clear-cut (no pun intended) top of the quarterback class.
At #2, I'd say we'd have to go with Leinart. However, Leinart always reminds me of Siragusa's comments about Joey Harrington. Basically, he's too much of a pretty boy and not someone he'd respect or want to play with. Give me more of a blue collar, tough as nails guy. Especially behind our O-line.
There is no question if we made this move we all could start putting up Matt Leinart avatars. I love Cutler, but if we go to 2 there is no way we can pass Leinart up.
Put it this way there are a ton of guys at the combine that will never be drafted and never amount to anything in the NFL but they go in hope that they can impress someone there and get drafted. How many guys will Vandy have there? One...just Cutler. The guys he played with aren't even bothering trying the game at the next level thats how good they are.
Which quality does Leinart lack, really? Add composure, pocket presence, the ability to dissect a defense, two National championships, and the ability to slide in the pocket and you have Cutler. All I really see with Cutler is the physical attributes. Some of the passes he makes are horrible, evident by his performance vs. Florida, Arkansas, LSU and Middle Tennessee State (there's a powerhouse).
I thought Mcnair was sort of taking Vince Young under his arm in the past, which is why I thought the Titans would choose him and have Mcnair help mold him.
Only guy worth trading up for is Bush. We miss out on Cutler, we just take Ferguson. Young is going to be a 2 year project and if we take a QB round 1 he'd most likely be starting by 2007. I know we're in rebuilding mode but hopefully this FO knows fans are going to be patient only to a point.
It is one thing to draft Cutler at #4....it is another to trade up to #2. I will be pretty pissed if we trade up for anyone. With our circumstance, the only way we should be trading is down.
Come on, lets be real here- the jets are not trading up for ANYONE. We can't give up any picks, even if it were possible to trade our second rounder for Bush we couldn't do it. They are not giving up anything for Cutler, and I would be surprised if they don't trade Down. There are probably 10 players they could draft in the first round who are worthy of the pick. If they trade to 9 or 10, they have a good chance of getting Cutler, or maybe even D'Brick if they stay above the 8th spot. You have to keep salary cap into this as well.
I would be annoyed if we got Cutler at 4, I would be beyond pissed if we traded up for him at 2 and in the process choose him over Leinart and Young.
