Not attending practice, it's not really knowable, but what is knowable, is that we have had the beef to be bigger up front, but it's not been used in any imaginative way, even though we were repeatedly getting manhandled at the point of attack. After watching film on Dewayne, you see that he can be a force on the line, but needs another big body in there to do it more than 4 or 5 times a game... The same thing goes in the running game. They went with no FB, instead using an Hback, which has the practical effect of spreading out the D, and getting matches vs..smaller players....Fine. But down close to the goal, they need to copy what the D did, and get bigger and bigger, till the OL is doing the pushing (At least they did have Wade Smith report as eligible a couple times...)
my concern with ellis being at olb so much, he seemed like he was there alot yesterday is can he cover because if he is going to come every time he is at olb then they will make adjustments to it. then again the 3-4 has a ton of situations where dl drop into a zone so ellis should be able to play at least some defense in the pass coverage game.
Is it my eyesight or did anyone else notice that there wasnt too many strtaight up 3-4 alignments yesterday? lots of 4 man fronts and then the backers were dropping back into coverage. This is the main reason we did well yesterday. we kept them guesseing and blanketed the recievers good enough to make ben second guesse himself and not throw into tight coverage!.
