The playcalling was terrible and I thought the 9ers should have taken the delay of game instead of calling timeout. Harbaugh/Kaepernick should have had the thought process they would need it if they failed to get in the EZ. With that extra timeout they don't get the safety but they have about 50 seconds to go roughly 50 yards... not as impossible as scoring a TD with 13 seconds to go. As far as the penalty, has to be called, it was blatent and you can't say they allowed the players to play as Culliver was called for a PI earlier in the 4th which gave the Ravens a 1st down on 3rd and long on a similar type of play in which the WR was also pushing off. Bmore ended up kicking what was the eventual game winning FG on that drive. Culliver committed a penalty and it was called, Smith also committed a penalty and it wasn't. I hate the argument you can't call a penalty on 4th and goal in the SB in the final 2 minutes because "the refs dictate the outcome of the game" well they also dictated the outcome of the game by not calling it.
could have easily been 1 INT. Again, no call from officials on offensive pass interference. And IMHO, MVP is Bouldin, just throw it up anywhere and he goes and catch it. Heck, even Sanchez would look great heaving it up to Bouldin - no accuracy required. Flacco did a good job overall but the guys who went up especially Bouldin were the keys of the game and even the under thrown to Jones was receiver making a terrific play.
NFC title game has nothing to do with this. Truth hurts what? You? Irrelevant. Again irrelevant. This reminds me of Super Bowl XL, when people said Seattle should've played better, when the refs were flagging all their big plays. And you're completely wrong. Obviously you don't know me or read my posts. That should be a flag regardless of what jerseys the players are wearing.
I said the same thing at the time. They absolutely could not afford to use timeouts. Had they not used that and another one earlier, they could've had a real chance at the end with 3 TOs
Ravens lost the Lombardi trophy last night. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...-trophy-after-super-bowl?campaign=Twitter_atl
whatever dude we are going to disagree on this one no matter what. you're a better man than me if you wouldn't hrow a brick through the Television if that were the Jets in that situation and say we were robbed. You're right I don't know you, but I call bullshit on your statement that you would be so magnanomous/objective regardless of who was playing Of course the NFC title game is relevant..similar situation, 4th down game on the line, seconds remaining, hoping for the referee's to directly impact the final play of the game basically. That play was clearer pass interference than the play last night was holding....no the truth hurts Niner fans (and those who bet on them). Unless that shit is blatant and last night's was not, especially with an overthrown ball, flag has to stay in the pocket. Fact of the matter is, the Niners blew their play calls.......no fucking way you don't run Gore/Kapernick read option 3 plays in a row there. then they got desperate and called a play that is designed somewhat to rely on a flag getting thrown if you don't complete it, you can't reward that shit... that would have been a travesty and much more a controversey than a non call.
rely on a flag getting thrown? what are u talking about? Ravens got one penalty all game long, how in the world can u suggest the 49ers designed their last play to rely on a flag? c'mon, get real. I agree though that the play calling on SF was pretty lame on those last downs, and Colin showed a bit flustered nearly running out of time clock. And 49ers also have these timed snaps where linemen tap the center and then like clockwork the center snaps to the QB - that is giving defenders way too much info and how to time the snap too. But I've seen lots of teams do the same thing. I would have at least faked one of those timed snaps to keep defenders honest and probably get Ravens to jump a few times.
Well, that's the truth. The teams don't matter in this case. It's not borderline to me. It was clear cut. In other words, you can't call pass plays, and the refs shouldn't reward teams calling pass plays by ever calling defensive holding or pass interference. They got desperate because it was 4th down, yeah.
On one of those last SF offensive downs on the 5 yard line, a perfect call for 49ers would've have been one of those fake up the middle QB keeper run by Kap drawing defenders in, then for a receiver to run back to endzone and then kap jump up and throw it to him. Ravens were very aggressive on the line, use that against them. Kap is tall, him running is no surprise so that to me would have been the perfect call.
you're being intentionally obtuse now...a corner fade is a lot more a call to draw a flag than most other pass plays. I personally hate the play, I hate when my team tries it (mainly becasue it never works for us).....it's a low % play.....and the ref did the right thing by holding onto his flag. I'll stick by that....and will continue to beleive that you would go as ape shit as I if the Jets got flagged on something similar (in a Super bowl...in our dreams)
So they called one PI all game long and no defensive holdings? Very lenient refs. If they were calling the game tight all game I would agree, but they made one call that was WR/DB related all game long. There was no precedent for it to be called there. I agree they shouldn't call the last 2 minutes different, and they didn't because they weren't calling the game tight what so ever. I didn't think that was offensive PI. Is hitting someone in the face while going for the catch illegal hands though? Smith and the DB both made a play on the ball. A little earlier in the game Smith was pushed and held on his route and that caused him to be short on a Flacco bomb. They let a lot go that game. Flacco made some really nice throws and put the ball where only his receivers could get it. I mean his receivers made nice plays but that discounts some of the sacks he avoided and throws he made. He was much more consistent this game than he was lets say a year or two ago and put together his best streak ever these last 4 games. We think alike. I thought a QB draw was going to happen. It looked like they called that play but the delay of game occurred.
Flags on that play wouldn't have made a difference. Play would have continued until the punter stepped out of bounds so the time would have run off the clock. Even if flags were thrown and SF declined, result of play would have been a safety with the time off the clock.
yes and I believe it was reported that John Harbaugh or thier special teams coach told the Specials to hold on that play becasue of that reason.
No, perhaps you are. Obviously the reason to call a play like that factors in the possibility of drawing a flag, but so do a lot of pass plays... The reason he had to even throw to that route was because the Ravens got pressure right away. Otherwise he could've tried to hit something else. You can believe whatever you want, but it's not true. A penalty occurred on that play (also on the safety play) and was not flagged. The refs blew it. That would still be the case if the Jets were on defense and a Jets defender mugged the receiver.
Are u sure??? that doesn't sound right. And I thought the idea that a penalty on a play with time wasted was a topic of issue from last years' SB? And I thought they addressed it by saying clock can't be ticked off on a penalty??? And a penalty with a QB/kicker in the endzone is automatic safety... and I would assume at the time of the infraction the clock would be stopped. And if you think about it, suppose it was a penalty and the punter ran out of the clock? then what? Game Over?? I seriously doubt it.
That makes no sense (not at you but at the rule) because if that is case, essentially, if true, then why not grab every 49er on the line and heck game over even if they called a penalty? I would tell the blockers to go for facemasks and yanked them all down.. that can't be a strategy to win a game in the last few seconds because the rule change??? can it???
I understand your point but I still think it was clearly defensive holding, Smith had his arm wrapped around the WR. The white glove on red jersey made it very easy to see. I just don't like the reasoning for not throwing the flag. As far as the ball being overthrown that wouldn't make an issue on defensive holding. We hear all the time that holding occurs on every play... then why ever call it? I would never suggest that the 49ers lost because of that non call... they made far too many mistakes. I could make the arguement that by allowing them to play "loose" the refs influenced the game because they allowed a team like Baltimore who plays very physical and commits a lot of penalties free reign. I don't mind that the Ravens won and the way things ended gave me extra $$$ with my bets as I always bet safety in the SB (I've hit 3 of the last 5 and 2 in a row!!!) I just don't like the fact that there was a penalty commited and they allowed it to happen. I think they were gonna run the sneak on that 2nd down and they wasted the timeout.
the refs dictate the winner by not calling it. that is an absurd argument to make, as if not calling a penalty doesn't dictate the outcome of a game. the refs job isn't to decide when to call a penalty depending on when in the game it occurs. maybe they did, and if so the 49ers can't complain too much. but that is irrelevant to the specific of the play last night. that I won't argue with at all. the last series was just dumbfounding.
