According to Boomer and Carton on WFAN this morning, Beyonce's halftime show blew-out the power in the Superdome twice during rehearsals. Somehow the electrical power made it though her show, but it did not make it much longer. You would think some electrical engineer down there would have realized the Superdome had a technical issue supporting the halftime show.
There is no such thing as a good no call. That is just a rationalization for not calling a penalty that should be called. if it is penalty you call it. if there is not a penalty you don't call one. not calling a penalty where there isnt a penalty to call is not something to applaud. allowing a team ti get away with a penalty just because the stage of the game is always a bad call.
disagree.......you can't throw a flag in that situation on 4th down and goal to win or lose the Super Bowl, that's the very definition of referees dictating the outcome of a game. The 49ers got the benefit of a simiar situation in the NFC championship game against Atlanta when pass interference call could have been made on that last 4th down pass Ryan threw incomplete. bottom line, poor play calling by the Niners on those 4 plays that and an uncatchable pass (debatable), = you can't have the refs bail you out. a Fade on 4th and goal? no friggin way, a low % play at best.
That last pass was overthrown though. Even with out the grabbing I don't think there was any chance for an inbounds catch
so the corners should just mug the receivers at will at the end, because otherwise it would be "referees dictating the outcome"? There was a penalty committed, it's the ref's job to call it. They didn't, because they're incompetent. They also missed a blatant penalty on the safety play.
did you read the rest of my post? Niners got the same break in the NFC champ game......truth hurts. Piss poor play calling , you can't throw a jump ball up and have the refs bail you out, you've got Gore, Kapernick et all and that's your play call? Brutal. Flacco also got blasted out of bounds, that was missed too.........a lot of flags stayed int he pocket all game. don;t rely on the refs, call better plays and it wouldn't have got to 4th and goal. If that were he Jets defending that situation you would be here like the rest of us saying that was compleye BS and the refs handed whoever we were playing the game.
Yes there is such a thing as a good no call because there is no definition of what is and isn't defensive holding. We see Revis game in and game out get away with much more stuff than Cromartie is allowed to get away with. It's all about how you do it, how blatant it is, and if the WR retaliates. That was happening all game long, to finally call it on the last play would be absurd. Call the play like you called the other plays all game long, and the way the refs called the game, the DB/WR were allowed to get physical with each other all game long. The refs giving the DB/WR benefit of the doubt physicality wise, so while yes he held him, the way the game was called it wasn't enough to warrant a penalty.
Also Joe Flacco with 11 TDs and 0 INTs in one postseason run. Very impressive run from him. He usually is good at not turning over the ball, but this very nice.
Technically speaking the refs probably should have flagged that fourth-and-goal pass. But the 49ers put themselves in that situation; Ngata is out, you've got Frank Gore and Kapernick, and you throw it three times, and the one run is by LaMichael James? I have a hard time feeling much sympathy when they had their chances; though I'm sure if it was the Jets I would be just as upset about the no-call as 49ers fans are now.
The thing is, they weren't calling it all game long. It did happen plenty during the game, but the refs let it go most of the time. I agree on the play calling. I was confused by it. Did not make any sense to me. Kap has a nice arm and all, but Gore was making people miss and they had BAL on their heels. I feel like SF faltered a lot in the RZ (Settling for FG) in the regular season too, came back to bite them.
I didn't watch a single snap. First time in 20+ years I haven't watched The SB. I just didn't care this year.
You can almost compare this game to the Jets vs Steelers game a couple years ago. Jets came out flat in the first half and the Steelers go up 20-3. Then in the second half, the Jets were the better team and closed the gap to less than a TD, but couldn't pull off the come back to win it.
funny, mob involvement popped into my head re the power outtage, figuring their money was on the Niners.
I thought it was pretty obvious that Ravens were going to run the punter around the end zone, but there was a blatant bear hug against a 49er defender chasing the punter... I can see close calls with flags tucked away but come on, grabbing a receiver then a bear hug throw down on a punt? horrible blatant non-calls IMHO.
