Yeah, the call... whatever. The Eagles had all the momentum at the half. Their all-world D, couldn't stop the Chiefs in the 2nd-half... THAT was what won the game for the Chiefs... the Chiefs offense won it, & their D played well-enough. To me, the MVP shoulda been #32 on their D, he made so many big plays, throughout the game.... but of course, because of his grit, Mahomes got it. Lastly, congrats to Sirianni... one of my fav HCs /s
Mahomes joins Brady, Montana, Bradshaw, Eli, and Starr as the only players to win multiple Super Bowl MVP's.
"It was a holding. I tugged his jersey," Bradberry said. "I was hoping they would let it slide." I have a new favorite NFL player.
What are we even arguing? It isn't even debatable. It was the most obvious holding call. It's just as egregious to not call it. The Eagles vaunted pass rush got 0 sacks on Mahomes. The Eagles defense gave up points on every single Chiefs possession in the 2H. The Eagles special teams gave up a game changing punt return.
Looks like he held him, but the problem is the subjectivity of all these calls. Without checking the box score, I remember one false start and one offsides and that’s it. The refs put their hands in their pockets especially against two teams that almost exclusively play man coverage and a physical style of man coverage. That can’t be the first defensive backfield call you make IMO.
People were watching on TV and Greg Olsen, a B level announcer, was crying about it so they went with it. I guess The guy held, he admits to holding. The refs have to call that. His hold took a touchdown off the board. -- Belichick is famous for telling his DBs to hold and grab during the Super Bowl thinking the Refs won't call it for the reasons Olsen and others describe. "It's a big moment you can't throw a flag there" Yes you can and you should. In my opinion in big moments that just means the refs should get their calls correct. And they did by throwing the flag on that play
The problem again is that by saying this you’re telling me that there wasn’t a single other holding call in the game that they missed in the defensive backfield? This was the only one? There aren’t many NFL penalties that are cut and dry. False start, offsides, and that’s about it. Even delay of game has an element of subjectivity as to when the ref looks at the play clock versus the ball snapped. Refs establish a pace of play with their calls and they established in the game that they weren’t calling much in the defensive backfield. I hear you that it was a hold. But if they let them do it all game and then suddenly call it at the end, it’s kind of nonsense. You don’t think?
Well do you have any real examples of missed calls earlier in the game or are you just speculating? I haven't seen any missed calls being pointed out but even if they did it would just mean they missed a call early in the game but got it correct when the game was on the line. I think we can respect that. -You don't get 2 calls wrong on purpose just because you got one wrong earlier
The fact you're not wrong should make you even concerned about the state of the NFL. Refs should have awareness of game situation when making a game deciding call like that, and they should also be able to better determine if said tack foul effected the play. That doesn't happen in this sport, but you see it others. I would say the majority don't disagree that it was a foul, but game situation and that it seemed like it did not effect the play is where the sour taste comes from. If you disagree with that point, that's a different discussion.
You can when the human element is involved. Sorry, but the current crop out NFL referees have not earned any benefit of doubt after that utter horseshit refereeing that we saw in 2023. NBA fans have gotten used to that kind of officiating and even have a word for it: Makeup Calls. It is blatantly obvious to me that this point that the refs are controlling the flow of every game with their calls.
That is just a weird argument to me. You are asking the refs to get a call wrong in the biggest moment of the game because it's the biggest moment of the game. - Imagine by some miracle the Jets are ever in that situation. Driving to win the Super Bowl, the Eagles are allowed to hold Garrett Wilson, because we can't have the refs make "a game deciding call." I would be furious
I watched about half the game. One thing I noticed was that neither QB had pass rushers charging unblocked at them, unlike Jets QBs in every game of the last few seasons.
Technically, the refs made the right call, but it was a very slight version of the infraction, which is often ignored, especially when the receiver had no chance to catch the ball.
Your other Posts are better tbh Eagles beat up some good teams >Dallas Minnesota SF and Giants while they pounded the easy ones..see their score in reg season
I had no rooting interest in the game other than to see a good football match. What I got was a great one right up until the ref threw that flag. That was so ticky tacky. They let other shit go but then decide to call that with less than 2 min left? Awful.
