You explained why Namath won- too many candidates. When there are too many candidates, the quarterback wins, especially when he is the star attraction and guaranteed the Super Bowl win.

As for the Hall of Fame, why does he not belong?

I don't think a QB with more Int's then TD should be in the HOF. As for him guarantee a Super Bowl win that is so over blown. Namath was ask by a reporter was the Jets going to win he said yes. He never said I guarantee the Jets will win and he himself admitted that after his playing days.

To be honest I don't see how anyone can debate that. If he got in HOF because of SB 3 then Jets starting line up should be in also. Plus show me any other offensive player in SB history who won MVP that didn't have a TD?

Joe is in for what he meant to the growth of the game more than anything else. he was probably the first superstar NFL player and he was huge in helping the NFL become our favorite sport. he belongs in for what he meant to the game.

Does Namath make the HOF if Jets lose SB 3?

probably not but SB III isn't SB III w/o the attention he created so while it was a great team win he was the face of football. he brought eyeballs to the TV sets, he took the game to another level. as strictly a player he doesn't belong, wasn't great long enough but for what he meant to the game he belongs.

So what your saying is? If a man changes the game he should be in HOF?

What the heck are you talking about? The man is in the Hall of Fame already. Hell, I don't have to debate it. You are the one with the issue. You are the one who has to prove to everyone that he does not belong and a colossal mistake was made in 1985.

I know you are not well versed in the history of the sport. I will engage you in a discussion if you want that.

Nice response. Obviously, you are not interested. I won't waste my time. We'll just note you as a dumbass with no knowledge of NFL history and move along with our lives.

This has been argued over and over on this board. I am tired of the argument, especially when the argument against Namath is made by those who have not seen him play. I have yet to see one person who saw Namath play from 1966 on to say he was not a Hall of Fame QB. If you argue otherwise, it is out of ignorance. As for SB III, people who argue against Namath as MVP also do so out of ignorance and because they did not see the game. Namath called all the plays in that game. Snell gained 121 yards because the Colts were geared to stop Namath and the Jets downfield passing game. Instead, Namath came out and ran a "ground and pound" offense with a short passing game (Maynard had a bum wheel, but Namath and the Jets hid that by throwing a few long passes to Maynard early as decoys to stretch the field). Namath's play calling was brilliant and the Jets dominated time of possession. Snell gained 121 yards on 30 carries - a 4.0 average. It was not as if he ran over and through the Colts. Watch the game sometime. Maybe you'll learn something.

He was considered one of the elite QBs of his era, first off, so don't compare his stats to those of today's QBs. Yes, he threw a lot of interceptions, but he also threw a lot of TDs, and he also set a lot of passing records. That matters. A lot. And he pulled off the biggest upset in the history of football after bragging that that's exactly what he'd do.

And, by the way, you are quite wrong when you say that he simply answered "yes" to the question of whether the Jets would win. Where are you getting that from? He was at a bar, reporters were there, and a Colts fan was yelling that the Colts would clobber the Jets. Namath had probably been drinking, and he responded with his guarantee, then the reporters published that the next day. That's how it went down.

I gave my opinion on what I've said. If I'm wrong then so be it. All you want to do is call people names when you disagree with them. Plus you talk like your king history boy. Anybody can do research on internet on history of NFL. Doesn't make u knowledge of NFL history just know how to research.

One of our administrators started posted here when he was 12 years old. His posts back then make you sound like a 5 year old.

The truth is that you are either an ignorant and uneducated teenager, or a complete troll, but I am guessing the latter.

And if it's the former, you probably want to Google what "latter" means before you assume I'm talking about a height extender.

I have watch the game and as for the play calling. They don't give MVP's to play callers. Snell had a total of 161 yard 121 on ground plus 1 TD and 40 yards receiving. I'm not saying Namath didn't help but IMO he shouldn't had been MVP.

I called you a name only after you gave a smart ass, ignorant, asshole response. I was willing to have a discussion. You could have learned something, but no. You wanted to be a prick.

Also, if it is so easy to do research, why the heck didn't you do any?
