I think this would have to be a desperate type of move to bring in a big time player, don't you think? Brick, I think his contract in some aspect needs to be re-negotiated.
In an ideal move yes Brick should take a cut. I can't see him taking any more than 2 mil off the books. With Mangold you are right if the cut/trade him it would be to bring in a FA. I just worry that Fitz might be strong arming them thats why a deal isn't done yet.
They would be foolish to cut Brick before they have a deal with another LT. They will go shopping for a free agent LT once the free agency period begins. Once they have signed a free agent LT (or are sure they have one who will sign) then Brick is gone. If Brick hasn't restructured (and reduced his salary) by the free agency deadline then I think the Jets will be cutting him as soon as they sign someone else to play LT. Qvale will replace Breno not Brick.
Jets news so far: Jason Cole: Titans in the lead for Snack, his price is too high for us. NFL Insiders: We expressed our interest for JR Sweezy with 10 other teams.
Only the Jets could win 10 games, miss the playoffs, and then lose key pieces from that 10 win team to ruin their next season.
I know. You'd think that an organization with such a history of shitty draft picks & less than stellar FA pickups (not counting last year), - that we'd be looking to trade the 1 recent draft pick that worked out (Mo Wilk) & that we'd watch the diamond in the rough undrafted FA we found (Snacks) walk out the door. But I trust in Mike Mac.
Sheldon Richardson is graciously offering to pick up any prospective Jets free agents at the airport in his Bentley. Sheldon says he can get them from Newark Airport to the Jets training facility in under four minutes regardless of traffic!
So, we are in need of QB, 3 RB, TE, RG, OLB and what is strange that we are interested in CB free agents.
Well then its a rebuilding year in 2016. Unless MM pulls a rabbit out of his hat. Mac came into the job with a long term vision of making team better. The fact that we went 10-6 was well, unexpected(?) Lets face it, with no money really for free agency we need a youth movement or cheaper players. Too bad about Fitz, but we can't compete with teams with more money. Will Petty be ready?
A guy I was hoping we'd get as a replacement for Breno Giacomini. Chargers re-signed RT Joe Barksdale to a four-year, $22.2 million contract with $10.5 million fully guaranteed. Barksdale, 28, was the only Chargers' offensive lineman able to stay healthy last season, making all 16 starts while the rest of the line crumbled next to him. Barksdale had an up and down year, but received positive marks from PFF for his pass blocking on the right side. The Chargers will hope LT King Dunlap, LG Orlando Franklin, and RG D.J. Fluker can stay healthy in 2016. Mar 7 - 9:42 PM. Source: Michael Gehlken on Twitter BUT SIGN THIS BEAST; Broncos released RG Louis Vasquez. Vasquez was entering the final year of his four-year, $23.5 million pact. He started 18-of-19 games last season, but really struggled in coach Gary Kubiak's zone-blocking scheme, especially as a run blocker. Vasquez (6'5/335) is ideally built to be a power blocker. He's still just 29 (in April) and should find a healthy market. Vasquez can play either guard or right tackle in a pinch. Related: Broncos Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter Mar 8 - 1:06 PM
I feel that you are totally right. We will have more money in next year and can manoveur more better than this year.
It's deceptive. Most teams have already made their cuts. The Jets have not. Mo will be traded and Brick will be cut as soon as they have another LT about to sign. That will free up $18 million or so. There are also other cuts that will be made - Cumberland, Breno and some other players. These guys will be cut when they have their replacements about to sign. I think the jets looking at CBs is a smokescreen meant to hide the moves they actually intend to make.
If they were going to do a long term deal, then it would already be done by now. Since they're not doing a long-term deal, then Mo is gone next year anyway and without any compensation. The simple question here is whether Mo is worth $15 million to the Jets who already have 2 young and promising starters (Richardson and Williams) in his spot. I'm not saying he's not worth that to some other teams, just not the Jets. Wouldn't you rather have the $15 million used on a stud OLB or use that $15 million for a number of players - like keeping Damon Harrison, getting a LT and LG and getting some younger, faster players who can grow into the Jets system? Wilkerson is a very good player, but given the Jets roster he's not worth anything like $15 million to the Jets. I think he'll definitely be traded (or end up on another team through their tendering him an offer and the Jets declining to match with the Jets getting 2 first round picks). My guess is that the trade will happen after the initial round of free agency after any stud DE free agents have already been signed and are no longer available. Although it could happen sooner if the Jets need the cap space to sign someone else.
Rand Getlin @Rand_Getlin Going to be busy for #Jets DT Damon Harrison. Multiple teams competing to land his first visit. They know it'll put them in pole position. Bye-bye, Big Snack.
