I don't know. My gut tells me to sign a vet more experience than Fields, but I don't know much about him.
Agreed…. I, personally, don’t think the Bears move on from Fields. If I were that GM I would spend ALL my draft capital in upgrading the roster around Fields. Besides, I don’t think those two “sure fire” qb’s coming out this year are so sure fire anymore. Both showed some significant “warts” this past college football season. Having said that, the ONLY thing JD and Saleh (if they both truly do come back) needs to be doing is working on that o-line and finding better receivers. EVERYTHING else can remain static. If he doesn’t fix that o-line, including a new o-line coach, then it’s not going to matter if we had the second coming of Rodgers arm on Fran Tarkenton’s legs the Jets will have another double digit loss season.
No, he is NOT that good. I know the early hype on the top 2 QB’s had both of them supposedly far and away better than last year’s class and I don’t see it. In fact, I think C.J., in Houston, will turn out to be the best of both drafts. This is NOT the year to go after a QB in round 1 if you don’t have to.
Well I am a Jayden Daniels guy. He might be better than C.J Stroud but this is Fields thread. Let's discuss in Draft Forum
He has above average arm talent, amazing ability to throw at all angles and elite escapability. He also has a resume that is up there with the elite prospects of all time minus the post-season success. Heisman, 93:14 TD:INT, 66% completion, and he’s in a system that’s produced two top draft picks. He can also scramble and run very well with top notch pocket presence. Do I think he’s on the level of those four as prospects personally? No. But do I think he’s an elite prospect? Yes. I will put an asterisks on my thoughts in that they’re all based on the draft being tomorrow. Caleb has a LOT of smoke around him in terms of character question marks. He wants an ownership stake, he’ll go back to college if he doesn’t go where he wants, etc. We will know a lot more come April.
I don’t know much about him, but I don’t like these kind of character concerns at all…screams of a pampered privileged type personality that I don’t think works well at the QB position. Also, the list of promising USC QBs who have failed in the NFL is a pretty long list, including the 2 we drafted
Bryce Young (and Kyler Murray) are short enough that their height has been a problem. But guys like Drew Brees, Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, Brock Purdy, and Russell Wilson have done pretty well at 6'1" or shorter.
Dude's basically Bo Callahan. But they never did a Draft Day 2, so who knows? Maybe Callahan became a Hall of Famer, and the Browns GM got fired.
If we did, he'd probably win Rookie of the Year, be mediocre in years 2 and 3, have an elite 4th year, get a mega contract, and then suck for the rest of his career.
But what if the team has only a season starting QB for 2024 and that could very well end in four plays, four games or fourteen? If the choice is a guy who can fill the top slot for more than one or two years, why not? It's not like anyone in charge has considered that at all.
