He should be. As should all child mollestors or anyone involved with children. The fact that 12 years is the most he can get is fucking ridiculous. And I hope all those thousands of convicted priests in prison get ass raped more than anyone else. They were supposed to protect their flock, not fuck it. _
People like Fogel should just be fried. They are the worst people alive. I have more respect for people who kill than I have for child touchers. They should be sentenced to death with no ability to appeal it. I'm sure this is something that all of us, liberal and conservative can agree on.
Should we really be condemning people for their sexual preference? Didn't we just go through this with another populations of sexual behavior. Why is it unnatural to be attracted to young girls? If "underage" girls can consent to sex with underage boys and are old enough and mature enough to have abortions, why are they not old enough and mature enough to consent to sex with disgusting old men? I'm not supporting pedophilia, it just seems like typical inconsistencies in the national narrative of what is natural sexually and how we conveniently determine underage girls are mature enough to make one type of life altering decision but not another. Is it really more damaging to suck off Jared the Subway guy than Jared the star varsity QB?
It really is about chronological age versus emotional age. There are 25 year old women who are much younger emotionally than some 16 year olds, but I guess we as a country decided to draw a line in the sand as to when the appropriate chronological age is for consent without taking into account emotional age. And also the added issue of power that older men may have over impressionable teenagers surely weighs into that decision. It's a tough balancing act but as a parent of two girls, I'm ok with the arbitrary pegging of "X" years. But I can't deny it isn't arbitrary. _
I have two daughters as well, and I have issues with the idea of juniors and seniors trying to go after my girls when they hit high school who in many situations have significant power in that social setting over impressionable freshman. I'm okay with the answer that it is arbitrary as long as we are aware we are not being logically consistent.
That being said, it may not be PC but I keep singing in my head "Five...five...five brotha footloooongs."
Should we be surprised by more and more stories like this? The sad part is that it's not even shocking anymore, really. We've become desensitized to it. This is just the natural progression of the "sexual revolution" that began in the '60's, "free love" (free lust really), moral relativism, etc. I mean, "who are we to judge him"? smh. Anyone who can see all of these sick stories in the news nowadays and not think that we sorely miss traditional Judeo-Christian morality is either seriously in denial, or woefully uneducated. Or both. Of course, this all coincides with the decline of our public school system, so no surprise there.... There is some hope, thankfully....there is a resurgence of young people returning to the Catholic Church, see the religion thread for more on that. (any replies on the topic of religion should be directed there, per TGG rules)
