I believe the 2010 AFC Champ game was lost due to Tomlin outsmarting Rex into believing that Tomlin had such great respect for the team. It took the edge off the "us against the world" mentality that was a driving force in the NYJ success. We were shit in the first-half after swallowing this BS down, IMO.
I am not sure of your point. You are usually reasonable after watching a game them you look at stats. It seems to me Zach throws a lot of balls away hurting his stats but helping the team. The kid is still learning to play QB and will continue to have up and downs. I thought he started off decent against the Pack then had a big drop off. Couple that with a few dropped passes and it was not pretty. . To me, his biggest mistake was the slide. He is 3-0 and we probably win the Baltimore game and more competitive in the Cincy game if he plays. Image what this team will be like when the passing game gets hot.
We had the same roster in those early games as we had in the last three. The offensive line and Zach were the only changes on the player side. Throwing more than any team in the league and losing is a good way to lose your job as head coach.
FYI, during game day threads, I may post some dumb shit. It's just my fandom taking over. I'll be overly critical before my brain has time to digest what just happened. It's just the place where I can vent and/or cheer for our team with my fellow Jets fans. Here's to cheering a lot more in the future.
I'm going with we had to play 3 games on the road against Manning, Brady and Rothlisberger because Sanchez wasn't good enough to get us wins against Miami and GB at home. He went 33/82 40% 472 0/3 combines in those games with a passer rating of 44.3. Hot garbage. A bye week with home playoff games and we go to the SB.
That's awesome. I was just curious if you watched the 2009 Jets and Mark Sanchez because it didn't sound like you did.
Great question. Sanchez has the same to do with Wilson's performance as Rodgers does, who you brought up. Same for Elway, Namath, Burrow, Allen. or any other player cited here. When are people here going to gauge a player on how that player is performing rather than trying to compare him to somebody who has done better or worse in the past? That is all irrelevant history and it won't change a thing about the guy you're trying to rate. It's either a stretch or excuse making, depending on what argument the guy is trying to make.
Sanchez vs Wilson debates will never make sense because they both had completely different teams and situations. Darnold vs Wilson debates too. Apples and oranges. The good news is Zach seems to be improving and feeling more comfortable in NFL games. Nice to see. He should keep getting better and better.
I watched him in 2009 but have better memories of him beating the Patriots in the snow in the playoffs in 2011. A feat I would like to see our young QB complete some day.
I'd like to see Wilson beat ANY team in the playoffs. That's what being a fan is all about. Mark Sanchez was not a good QB. He played on extremely talented Jets teams in his first two years and he was the reason we didn't win a super bowl. He never completed more than 56.7% of his passes as our starting QB. His interceptions were 20, 13, 18, and 18. His fumbles were 10, 9, 10 and 14. He's known for one of the most comedic fumbles in NFL history. If Zach Wilson turns out to be like Mark Sanchez, we are fucked.
The Patriots were 14-2 in 2010.... the JETS were NOT winning the division. The Colts were 14-2 in 2009. JETS were NOT playing them at home either.
We are talking Sanchez years 1 and 2 vs Zach years 1 and 2. Sanchez fell off mount olympus after that and no-one ever wants to see a Sanchez-type year 3 and beyond from a NYJ QB again. So buttfumble and pick-sixes doesn't matter in this context.
His 3rd season was statistically his best as a Jet. But whatever. I'm done talking about Mark Sanchez. He fucking blew.
