You conveniently forgot about the Pittsburgh game where he engineered 2 TD drives in the final quarter.
Has he not played mistake-free? Has he not led them to 3 wins in very difficult conditions? Has he not performed better in pressure situations? If you're judging him by stats, stick to Madden. Have fun.
First, by number of games played he still in his FIRST season. Second, how many games did Mahomes, Rodgers, or Brady win in their first seasons? ANd what was Josh Allen's record and stats like in his first two seasons? The Jets are being smart about developing a QB who has immense potential for a change. I'm glad they aren't listening to fans like you.
First 3 games of season 2: Sanchez- 550 yds, 58% comp, 6 TD’s, 0 Ints, 1 rushing TD Wilson-572 yds, 53% comp, 1 TD, 2 ints, 1 rushing TD.
This is spot on true indeed particularly the bold. I watched yesterdays game under the microscope and the Broncos D is IMO the toughest D we will face so far. I don't like the altitude either. I'm even advocating travelling early and do the last dress rehearsal there to get acclimated. I worry about this game a lot more than I did about GB. Zach will have arguably his biggest challenge, he will not be able to just depend on the run, must get a quick read on the D, find short passing lanes and fire immediately Golden opportunity to get Moore in the slot for very quick slants. I will say this James, if, and that is a big if, we come back with a victory, the house will rock like never before when the Pats come to town. And you know what, we might even be favorites for the first time this year. God forbid.
listening to me? I didn’t say bench or cut him. I said he’s not playing well. He’s not. He is our weakest link thus far. He needs to improve. Why is that so hard to digest around here? The number one way to know you have a delusional argument is when you preface the argument with “you can’t judge stats, you can’t look at lack of TD’s, awful comp %…” oh wait even though he’s had a full off-season of development I’m supposed to consider him a rookie. Come on man. You know who has great statistics? Great QB’s. You may see a decent QB put up great stats, but you never see great QB’s putting up shitty stats. Zach should be better than he is right now based on his draft position and the talent around him.
Denver may be struggling offensively, but the have a legit top defense, and they're coming off a tough divisional loss, and they're playing at home. And they won't be taking us for granted. Yes, this is another "statement" game. We could easily be blown out in these conditions. That said, I'll be disappointed if we lose, but as long as we keep it close to the end with a chance to win, I'll be okay with that - though still disappointed. Zach is going to have to continue to play mistake-free. He may be either helped or hurt by playing (relatively) close to home - a lot of family and friends will be in attendance I'm sure. I hope he keeps his head on straight, and I hope MLF gives him a game plan that enables him to play loose.
With that view point, I respectfully just need to move on. Quite frankly, Wilson was drafted for his incredible long term future potential, knowing he needed development, and the OC would have to be a flaming idiot to put the game on the shoulders at this stage of a 9-10 game starter barely learning the NFL game. To do this at the detriment of a very good group of young talent fighting for wins and helping Wilson be successful would be the epitome of bad coaching.. That is exactly the wrong thing to do, put your QB in an uncomfortable situation and not bring him along properly. Chicago and Fields immediately come to mind. They are destroying the kid. I think you got this all wrong. Glad the CS doesn't.
Sanchez went on to finish his second season with 11 more passing TD's and 13 interceptions which is much improved from the 20 picks he threw his rookie year. I can't believe I'm having this argument.
So what is the overall outcome you expect? I Mahomes season 2 (his first starting)- 66% comp, 50 TD’s, 12 Ints, over 5k yards Justin Herbert season 2- 66% comp, 38 TD’s, 15 Ints, over 5k yards Joe Burrow 2nd season- 70% completion, 34 TD S, 14 Ints, 4600 yards Josh Allen- 58% completion, 20 Tds, 9 ints, 3000 yds Kyler Murray- 67% comp, 26 TD, 12 int, 3900 yds Tua- 67% comp, 16 TD, 10 Int, 2600 yds Daniel Jones- 62% comp, 12 TD, 11 Int, 10 int, 2900 yards Right now Zach isn’t even playing at the level of Jones or Tua. This is a new league, QB’s are expected to show their value in year 2. Zach is showing out to be at best a Daniel Jones. He needs to perform much better. Much better. And I stand by that.
You think that the Jets win the last three games with Flacco or White - or even Darnold? Zach isn't putting up flashy numbers but he IS doing what he's being asked to do, which is to put his personal accomplishments aside and help the team win, all the while learning and improving. Great QBs never put up shitty stats? How about John Elway? https://www.milehighreport.com/horse_tracks/2015/6/29/8860503/broncos-legend-and-current-gm-turns-55 The nine-time Pro-Bowler and first ballot Hall-of-Famer finished his rookie year with 1,663 passing yards, seven touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 10 games. He started the season as a rookie before being benched mid-October, but following an injury to veteran Steve DeBerg, Elway was once again starting quarterback. His QB rating that season was just north of 54 percent. Troy Aikman Troy Aikman was a three-time Super Bowl champion for the Dallas Cowboys. However, his rookie season was awful. In 1989, Aikman went 0-11 as the team’s starter and his stats were atrocious. Aikman only threw for 1,749 yards, nine touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. He ultimately had a 55.7 quarterback rating. Terry Bradshaw? Bradshaw went 3-5 in eight starts during his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1970. Starting in eight games, he appeared in 13 games total. His numbers might be the worst out of everyone on this list. He threw for 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, and – wait for it – 24 interceptions. He had a 38.1% completion percentage and a 30.4 quarterback rating. Peyton Manning? In his rookie season with the Indianapolis Colts, he went 3-13 as a starting quarterback. He threw for a lot of yards but still struggled. He finished his rookie season with 3,739 passing yards, 26 touchdown passes, and 28 interceptions. Great QBs who didn't struggle almost always started on the bench for a year or two (or three in Rodgers case). By either method - throwing them into the fire, or letting them sit and learn - it requires patience which many Jets fans don't have. Regardless, just because an expectant father is impatient doesn't mean his wife can give birth in less than 9 months.
You’re using QB’s from decades ago dude, come on. I just gave you a list of 6 guys drafted in the last 5 years.
First 16 games of Mark Sanchez's career: 2,518 yards, 53.5% comp, 12 TD, 20 INT, passer rating: 62.6 First 16 games of Zach Wilson's career: 2,906 yards, 55.6% comp, 10 TD, 13 INT, passer rating: 70.3 Those are the stats. Mark Sanchez wasn't better, let alone much better. Nice try though
March Sanchez hasd the number 1 defense, number one OL , number one running game, they ran the ball 58 percent of the time, defenses stacked 8-9 men in the box leaving receivers wide open daring Sanchez to throw. No QB has ever had it easier than Sanchez. Despite that Sanchez was still the NFL all time leader in fumbles per game and like Mike Westoff said he could not throw a ball into a lake if he was standing next to the lake. Sanchez is arguably the worst QB to ever play game. Put any bad QB in a situation he was in and they would be completing 70 percent.
Yeah, the "don't look at stats" thing is such a cop out because anyone can claim their eyes have seen something and nobody can quantifiably disagree with it. Stats matter. The eye test matters. Context matters. It all matters. If you're saying otherwise then you're probably biased.
we’ll remove the words “much better”. Hell I’ll even take away better. Lets just say he’s right on par for comparable careers with Sanchez thus far. Compared to his current peers though….. yeeesh…
And wins matter far more than all of the above. That's what we need to strive for. Not better stats. Better stats give you better player contracts. More wins give you championships.
