Just two points... People have to stop comparing Zach to a fictitious perfect QB, or other QBs. The only QB worthy of comparison, at this point, is comparing Zach past (even 2 weeks ago), to Zach present. As I said in a different thread, has he reached his ceiling, or is he progressing? I understand taking the 3 in a close game, but would it be a close game, if they played faster, called more aggressive plays, moved the pocket, were less predictable on 1st-down, etc, & actually attacked the opposing D's vulnerabilities... & utilized Zach's skillset to their advantage, from the start of a game? Zach is the QB for now, what is there to lose by being more aggressive, & giving Zach the opportunity to be the QB they hoped he'd be, when they drafted him? The Eagles game is the perfect game to be aggressive. They'll need to score points, FGs & conservative play probably won't do. Start the game no-huddle. .
Why shouldn’t he be compared to other quarterbacks? That’s silly. That’s how we figure out where he stacks up on the scale of even being average or not.
Stud Quinton Jefferson for picking up the fumble on the three stooges trick play the Broncos pulled late in the game.
I stopped reading once I saw Wilson as a stud, my God, if he's a stud, how can you proclaim anyone else a dud
And yet, knowing this, they went ahead and tried to turn him into a game control, pocket QB who has to do a bunch of pre-snap reads and then make play calls based on them, something he never really had to do in college. And they insisted on sticking with this plan for two years! Then people wonder why Zach struggled. SMH. Really? It "must" be that Zach just sucks, that he can't throw a screen pass or "layup" - even though he was the #2 accurate passer in college? It can't be that he was struggling to learn a completely new style of playing QB - a much more difficult system by some accounts - and as he struggled began second guessing himself every time he took a snap. No, he just sucks and shouldn't even be in the NFL. He's incapable of getting better because he's too stupid. So then how do they explain his steady improvement this year? Did he get a brain transplant? Did Rodgers take him into a "dark tank" and perform a mind meld on him? Really, this meme that Zach can't play QB in the NFL has to stop now. IDK if he can still become what he was drafted to be, but I wouldn't rule it out either. He definitely needs to clean up the bonehead plays like the 4th down dump off in the Dallas game, and yesterday's short completion to the outside that killed any chance of getting an easy FG. But he admitted his fault in those and therefore has a good chance of learning from them. On the plus side, his renewed confidence is displayed by some of the "big boy" throws he's made the past couple of weeks against some of the best defenses, so there is some basis for believing that he has a higher ceiling than many think. But that's not going to happen if Saleh and Hackett continue to play conservatively and don't give him a game plan built to his strengths.
Not comparing him to other qb's smacks of special treatment to protect a disabled person or something.
you can compare them to both though. we all agree he's been awful, but the last 2 weeks he looks like and average QB which is an improvement from worst starter in the NFL
Don’t compare Wilson to any other player, that is unfair Don’t set any standards, they will be hard to reach Let him loose cause winning with Breece Hall is boring
I just can't get behind this whole narrative going around that Zach continues to improve. If we're comparing to his worst, then yes, he's improved. Not even Saleh and Douglas could justify having him in there if he hadn't. Zach, in my eyes, has one great half under his belt this year, arguably his career. That being Qs 2 and 3 in the KC game. He looked like a real NFL QB at just about every level - poise, command of the line before the snap, throws, all of it. He's never looked like that before and he didn't look like that yesterday. Most of the rest has been flashes of things we get excited about because it's not typical of him and it SHOULD be. Yesterday, he was somewhat better than his previous non-disaster games. A good throw here and there, definitely a little more poise in the pocket, but not much beyond that. He put the ball on the ground a couple of times, thankfully losing none - but on the ground they were. The INT isn't him at all. I was 100% for the call to try and put it away on 3rd down and I won't back off from it because it didn't go our way. His throw wasn't terrible so non issue for me. But he missed a couple of other fairly easy throws, to me the most prominent being a long pass to G Wilson down the left side where he led him out of bounds. That was a touchdown, and hardly anyone has mentioned it. And the only reason I'm harping on it is because he did a similar thing last week against the Chiefs, this time down the right sideline but overthrown instead of offline. So I'm very concerned about his accuracy and touch on "easy" passes. He finally seems to have gotten rid of the yips on short passes, now he can't hit a guy in stride who's got 2 steps? To me, yesterday was on the border between "we won in spite of him" and "he did enough not to lose". I think at this stage he should be doing just a bit more to swing it through the "enough not to lose" section and start to butt up against "making a difference in helping to win". I mean, if this doesn't just SCREAM Jets, I don't know what does. The Jets have made an art form out of running against poor secondaries and throwing against poor run defenders. Like they pick a weekly game plan out of a hat. Sent from my SM-S908U1 using Tapatalk
because humans aren't machines and everyone misfires at times. zach completed 73% of his passes yesterday. a typical zach game is barely over 50% you can't complain about anything over 65% and 70% is in really good territory. and not "good for zach" it's good for the NFL. he's done ti back to back weeks now. only 4 Qbs are over 70 for the season. allen, purdy, tua, and herbert. so completing 70+ 2 weeks in a row is great. if he can do that every game we'll have a season on our hands
"Sometimes" implies that there are times when such plays are completed. That's just not the case here. And frankly, a pretty good argument can be made that his completion percentage is so high because they stick with short passes. If you're gonna go after the Tom Brady/Kurt Warner style of accumulating stats then the eye test and the scoreboard should reflect it. Sent from my SM-S908U1 using Tapatalk
Vacuum, meet vacuum. 9 of those points were on defense. Offensively we scored 22 points of which 15 were FGs and 7 were a 72 yd run by Hall. Sent from my SM-S908U1 using Tapatalk
Hold on a second, a minute ago you tried to tell me that they put up 31 points and hence were among the top scorers in the league. That was in direct response to my rebuttal about Zach Wilson, which is what I was under the impression we were speaking about. So the team did well in the same fashion that other teams do well, and it's not related Zach Wilson (which was exactly my point)? Or are you going to go in another direction again? it's the same direction. I said zach completed a high percentage of passes you said "they should score more I said we scored the 7th highest this week you said well the D scored 9 I said so did other teams defenses it's been one string lol
