it’s always “good coverage” by Hall that ends up in a big play for the opponent. He cannot find the ball. They see him and they go after him because the rewards far ourweigh any risks. It happened all last year, and Sunday he only got 5 snaps and yet it still happened. I don’t want to see him on the field
I'd like to see more accountability by the CS--Indy cut their longer-time K after 1 game--the same should be done with B. Mann. It sends a message that a lack of quality will not be tolerated--its not like Mann has been Hekker like and just had a bad punt. Joyner too--he sat all last year and should have studied the D and basically become expert in what to do--I was for cutting him before the 53. Again, i'm looking for the accountability message to be loud and strong. I also like the idea of turning Flacco into emergency QB and rolling with White/Streveler. Why wait?
Fant and Tomlinson get ripped on a lot of Pavia's week one film review. Particularly, Tomlinson. Hopefully we see a better game from Tomlinson. Fant's performance coming off an injury and switching sides again is understandable but Tomlinson's excuses are less. Hopefully it was more of an issue of Madibuke being that good and less on Tomlinson. While the film review is depressing to watch we can't ignore the bad. Hopefully we will see some things fixed this coming week. https://jetsxfactor.com/2022/09/13/ny-jets-film-review-wrong-offense-ravens/
Well, you are 1000% right MoWilk. I have been around for a long time and have followed the Jets longer than most. But I must admit, as much as I love the team, my patience is finally running short and force myself to stay positive. We all deserve better and this team need to turn direction ASAP. A few wins will heal a lot of wounds.
It’s interesting, because I think the reason so many of us are so upset is not really that we lost…I think most of us expected to lose. At least for me, the reason I am so disgusted is that we were blown out AGAIN…we were not competitive…we were down 24-3 until very late in the 4th quarter. THAT’S the problem. it IS more of the same old shit. It’s EXACTLY more of the same old shit. and while I do agree that it was a few bad plays, like a shanked punt giving a short field (how many more shanked punts do we need to see from this guy?), or like Carter dropping a sure TD, or like Hall and Conklin fumbling away the ball, or like Joyner looking way out of place, I get it but where are the coaches adjustments? Where are the short passes to all these TEs? Why the fuck are we throwing to Cager instead of the two TEs we just signed? Where are the max protect calls to try and keep Flacco upright? The coaches did not do enough. There’s enough shit to go around…. I think that’s the frustration. on the positive side, I did see plenty of reason for hope with guys like Sauce and Reed and GW….
It is hard to be patient after so many years of futility but things do not change instantaneously. Consider that we have an extremely young team, with 13 new starters last Sunday plus 2 returning starters playing new positions and our starting QB not playing. Given the youth and the new players it will take time. I would recommend not fixating on the individual up and downs but the longer term trends. Are players developing and playing better, are they making less big play mistakes, is there more consistency and so on. Focusing on single good and bad occurrences will just result in a yo-yo of overreactions. Are we improving? Are our young players developing? Is Zach making progress? Are we trending upwards? And more questions like these. There were a lot of positives Sunday balanced by a number of depressing negatives. My sense is there will be a lot of adversity and lot of ups and downs this year with more downs. Rather than focusing on the negative I would suggest looking at the big picture and looks to see where we are going, improving and trending as a team. For that we need a much larger sample size and a healthy starting QB would be helpful as well. Patience is hard but even harder as a Jet fan. But, the reality is there will be a lot of ugly football this year and IMO if we are going t enjoy the season we need to focus on the longer term big picture. will this be a season like 1977 where we make a few big mistakes each week. Just enough to lose but you see the progress and what eventually will be success or are we stuck at rock bottom forever?
I'm not defending Bryce Hall overall... just on that play. It was good coverage... on that play. Problem is... if Sauce turns out to be Revis 2.0... it will put extra pressure on the other cover-backs as more balls will be thrown their way...
Well done. Very nice and well balanced perspective. It’s thanks to people like you that makes this site and the many threads in it an absolute pleasure to read and follow.
Well Reed is a good cover corner so I’m actually in favor of them challenging Reed. MCII/Echols/Hall have to hold up their ends too though. Hall IMO is a good corner but his ball skills are severely lacking and I feel he’s lost some confidence this season amid competition. I think QB’s know the low risk/high reward when throwing to him, so he had real good coverage but somehow the pass was completed.
I guess it depends on how we define ball skills. In terms of making plays on the ball Hall was one of the best corners in the league last year with the 2nd most passes defensed in the league. But in terms of converting INTs he was awful. The Dolphins said they are targeted him last year because they had no fear he could intercept the ball. What I have noticed is he does not seem good at getting his head turned back to the ball but he is very good at using his hands to break-up plays which is almost what he did with the TD the ball bouncing off the back of his hand.
Empathy, my friend. Put yourself in his shoes. Closing in on 80 and wants the Jets to win now because who knows what will be 1,2, or 3 years down the line will bring
He was a 5th round pick only because of his ankle injury, without that he would have been a 2nd, an absolute steal for the Jets and already people are wanting to dump him, madness, he had a very good season, shining in a sea of shit last year.
Hey. I was just giving some perspective. I didn't compare him to Sauce... The guy I responded to did. The CB that int.'d Herbert last night and ran it back for 99 yds. was a 7th rd pick
When are we gonna start getting turnovers?] For a defense that s'posed to play "fast & loose"... we sure don't force many turnovers.
yeah you’re right. I meant he can’t find the ball but he usually plays the pass well for deflections.
