Right but we have to assume that a trade down as attempted and not there. So what do you do in that position? There's been a big pivot now from last year when the consensus was the Josh Allen should've been the pick. Allen plays a little worse and Williams plays a little better and now all of a sudden everyone is saying well we should've bolstered the offense (in a dreadful offensive draft a the top).
You can get guys in the 6th round whose only purpose is to occupy double teams. Quinnen was a horrendous pick.
I'd stick with Allen and let him grow from his first experience with adversity on the field. But you're right, Q wasn't a reach. It's just that we needed an edge rusher since Abraham was dealt away.
Well I agree that Macc was not the GM that could successfully trade down and succeed. He could barely pull it off when a consensus blue chip prospect fell into his lap. That said, it doesn't change the fact that the right play was to trade back rather than taking yet another DT.
Again. We need to operate as if that wasn't an option considering it was reportedly not an option even for that airhead. So it's not a matter of right or wrong. If you have A, B, C, and D as choices and none of them are trade down, what do you choose?
The point is that just because Macc was incompetent, and couldn't develop any relationships around the league that would've helped him to pull off something like this, doesn't make it right, nor excuse him. It was a bad decision. Not "Skip over Mahomes bad", but still another in a long line of mistakes.
He made a bunch of draft day trades that he usually lost dude. There was no trade down available. There were two extremely coveted players in that draft. We picked third in typical Jets fashion. Two inside linebackers went in the top 10 and two interior offensive lineman and two tightends went in the top 20. That tells you something about the class.
Week 6 update on these two. They choose on friday to rest Allen's knee one more week so he sat out. Quinnen pulled his hamstring thursday (Gase disease) but he still saw limited action getting 3 tackles and two assists in that football folly we called a game. ( He also got a pass breakup on a zone blitz but I'm not tracking those stats.) Quinnen Williams 13 tackles 11 assists 2 sacks 1 forced fumble 250 defensive snaps Josh Allen 4 tackles 2 assists 2 sacks 193 defensive snaps
Im still taking Allen. You cant go a decade & a half .wo a legit edge pass rusher QW might be the better player but Guys like Allen are harder to find
Week 7 update. Allen was handled playing 64 snaps and not making a single play. Q flashed a few times in 48 snaps. Both teams played better then expected in losses. On to week 8. Quinnen Williams 16 tackles 12 assists 3 sacks 1 forced fumble 298 defensive snaps Josh Allen 4 tackles 2 assists 2 sacks 257 defensive snaps
Nope will never believe that. The Jets make the right decision...what. A crash test dummy would have been a better pick than Williams. You don't know how Allen could have played under Greg Williams. Williams's stats certainly doesn't match up with his draft status. He is not a game changer and that was why he was drafted.
Thanks for posting these stats every week. After all the bull and blister these numbers are all that matters.
Q's operating on an elite rate as a run stuffer per advanced metrics, and he's improving a lot as a pass rusher too. The progression is trending in the right direction which is a great thing.
I know how Allen plays so far without Calais Campbell lining up next to him. 64 snaps and didn't sniff the ball carrier once. It kind of makes a difference when the guy you line up next to requires a double team. Once Allen lost that he became very average, which is being generous.
Allen has only played 5 games this year because of injuries. That's quite a small sample size to make a determination like that. By your logic we should've written off Q completely after his bad rookie year, right?
Week 8 update. Quinnen re-injured the hamstring he has been nursing since the Miami game and saw limited action, recording 3 tackles (2 for loss). Allen was on his bye week. On to week 9. Quinnen Williams 19 tackles 12 assists 3 sacks 1 forced fumble 335 defensive snaps Josh Allen 4 tackles 2 assists 2 sacks 257 defensive snaps
He’s made improvements, no doubt. I just hope this isn’t a Leo year 2 will be became a pro bowler and that was as good as it got
Yeah I'm thrilled with the improvement but it's going to take a lot more production to convince me he was the right pick at 3 overall.
Yah...I don’t really th8nk he was the right pick either....you could make a case that Josh Allen plus Leo Williams would have made for a better DL
