My biggest fear is we finish 7-9 or something like that, keep Gase as a result, and implode next year.
Same here. I think it's almost certain to happen, as it sounds like we are keeping him even if 6-10. For good measure I can see losing Gregg Williams this offseason, while also gutting the team to 'fit' lame coaches to boot.
I used to think this way up until a few weeks ago either tank for top 3 pick or make playoffs- everything else is a waste.... but I’m starting to believe in the winning “culture” thing. At this point I know it’s not tangible, but I just want them to win as many games as they can let the kids get confident and make the GM work we have seen countless top 10 picks fizzle out plus if you make good picks at 15-25 you don’t have to sign them for as much and can extend the good ones early for less
Hope and hype. Sign Bell, Darnold making progress, New Coach, GM. Split the coaching down the middle with an agressive Defense Coordinator and an Offense calling Head coach. Then 3 weeks into the season QB diseased, high cost Defensive player out for the season, O line clueless, and injuries to key players just keep coming. Fan base looks, once again, to next year. Then we win 3 games in a row. 2 wins against shit teams and one beat down against a mediocre but better record team ( west coast team syndrome, cold, rain...all in Jets favor). Now fan base forgets next years draft picks and firing the head coach doesn’t seem all that important right now. We are playing the crappy Bungels and there seems to be nothing to worry about...until our last 3 games against Baltimore Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Well folks sometimes your the bug sometimes your the windshield... We will be back to hope and hype after December 29.
Things can change quick from season to season, but next seasons schedule doesn’t look promising. Just a shame we dropped a couple winnable games this season.
Drinking the Soma preseason I thought 10 wins was doable..omg Now watching Sam and Greg Ws Defense click on all cyjanders gives me reason to hope...not for a Playoff spot but a big improvement...anything beyond that is just gravy How good is this Team?? Sam forced Gase to rethink everything while Greg W has developed a first rate Defense against the rush...if Darnold can continue to control Gase we can be competitive and maybe surprise down the line My Goal is having Williams to become our HC...but have no clue how that could happen. Hopefully, the guy stays put with us
We beat two shit show teams and a West Coast team traveling across country, and now we are playoff bound. Good to know. smh
Making the playoffs requires a ton of things going our way. I'm not even thinking about that now. Sam continuing to show progress can be a nice stepping stone for 2020.
Yes, the Ravens game seems 'unwinnable' for the 4-7 Jets. But, hear me out: I've watched the last 2 Ravens games. Very impressive. They run wild. It's like running the wild cat but still having your QB ready to wing it. Lamar can throw from the pocket, and on the run, but most of his damage is with his Mike Vick 4.2 speed. Lamar loves to run the ball right at your linebackers. He's that fast and quick. But before he can reach our LBers he has to get past Adams and Quinnen. Beating Lamar will take 2 things: 1) a team that can shut down the middle of the field and stop the run. Jets are the best in the league at this. If any team can slow Lamar, it's our team. 2) Jets needs to start quick and put points up early (Jets lead the league in this too). Scoring the first TD or two will put Lamar in a 'play from behind' mode the causes players to force things and forces the HC to toss out half the play book. Playing from behind is NEVER fun. Summary: Gregg WIlliams #1 run defense slows Lamar and holds the Ravens to 30 or less. Gases' offense starts quick, puts up an early 1-2 TD lead, force the Ravens to press, and score 31 or more points over the course of the game. Jets 31 Ravens 30
We need Pittsburgh to beat Cleveland today. Must win game. If that happens would it be fair to say the Jets control their own destiny? Win out and they make the playoffs?
Win the next two games, just get to that Baltimore game with a chance to get to 500 that'd be more of a season than I could have imagined getting this season when I was watching the train wrecks against NE, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Jacksonville, Miami earlier this season. Anything after that would be gravy.
Buffalo will probably have the 5th seed locked and rest their starters last game season. Ravens game on TNF is must-win. We should easily beat the Bengals, Dolphins and Steelers if Sam plays well + our D continuing to shutdown the run. Put the game into the opposing team bad QBs hands all game – give us a chance.
I hate it when the Jets 'control their own destiny'. We never seem to control it. I like it better when 300 teams need to lose 400 games....that's when we seem to sneak in!
