PURE FANTASY that he shows up here on the Jets...

I can hear it now... if this, if that, if the other thing... if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

Bottom Line, it's not gonna happen.

He also beat up a teammate in 2002 and received a 1-game suspension.

It's Steve Smith. He's basically Carolina's entire offense.

...if you honestly think he's the same type of receiver/player that Coles is then you don't know anything about football.

This guy is electric. He punched a corner the face because the guy was running his mouth -- he shouldn't have erupted that way. I know he's been in a few fights, but you can place some of the blame on the other player's and the coaches involved in these incidents. It's not ALL Smith.

So what if he likes to celebrate and talk trash - it's all for fun.

If the Jets have a chance to bring this guy in for anything lower than a 1st rounder, then they should jump all over it. He's probably the best receiver in the game.

exactly--and with coles on a 2 year deal, I would consider L.Coles for Smith even up--doubt it will happen but I'd consider it.

The Panthers have already stated publically that they have no interest in trading Smith.

I've subscribed to Sports Illustrated since 3rd grade, aside from a 4 or 5-year period in the late 80s/early 90s.

I remember many, many football articles.

All of them are now online at the SI Vault at www.si.com.

I certainly recall the article about Steve Smith's anger management issues.

Here is a link to that story-

    Here is an excerpt-

Not that Smith is on the market, but ayfkm?

He would be our #1 in a heart beat. He's better than Coles without question. If you had a chance to bring him hear you do it.

Even if we give up a pick for Smith, I doubt that we can pay him until the cap increases next season.
